I think she had a rebellious streak that was mostly directed against her mom. Not resentment, just annoyance at what her mother's expectations may have been. Ash obviously adored her father, and choosing to follow in his footsteps into a dead-end military career may not have been winning her points with her mom...
The loss of her father probably changed everything, with the family rallying around in such situations.

Double post.
God I hate it when that happens.
Ah well, might as well use the space for something productive:
If it gives me an excuse to use this picture in a forum post. I'll do it.:innocent:
EDIT: Also I'm turning in, it's past midnight where I am right now. Keep posting everyone else, Ash is worth it.

Love the art guys! That top of the page one is awesome Zeuss.
I too think Ash had a rebellious side, or rather appeared to in some cases. I think when she was younger, her morals and convictions were just as strong as they are now, and in possible protest to anything that may have gone against either, she would've spoken her mind, which probably came off as or was considered rebellious. (heh heh, can you say, run-on-sentence?)

Seems appropriate to repost something I wrote a loooooong time ago ....
We all know the mission, and what is at stake.
We have come to trust that Ash will be in ME3 - but I have also heard murmurs of discontent regarding where things might be going. I share your concerns.
We are trained to always be on-topic; we would be more vocal, but the old thread got locked.
Spam posting is not our way.
Think of our hero: the Gunnery Chief, who was the sole survivor of her unit on Eden Prime. Or the Operations Chief, who kept armies of angry fans at bay with a single emailed note.
These appearances do not seem to give us solace here, but they are not all that we hope for.
Before ME2, there were the old forums. We are not just an Ash support group, we are soldiers!
Our influence did nothing to help prevent her cameo, but before that we held the line!
Our influence has attracted trolls and new posters, but before that we held the line!
Our influence will (hopefully, fingers-crossed and all that) bring Ash back to ME3; in the battle today, and always WE WILL HOLD THE LINE!
