I think she had a rebellious streak that was mostly directed against her mom. Not resentment, just annoyance at what her mother's expectations may have been. Ash obviously adored her father, and choosing to follow in his footsteps into a dead-end military career may not have been winning her points with her mom...

The loss of her father probably changed everything, with the family rallying around in such situations.

I can't imagine Ash not having *some* kind of of occasional flirtation with rebelliousness. I mean, look at her now.

I like that armor, fit nice and... snug.

Sorry, it slipped out.

Also, I very much imagine Ashley had a rebellious attitude back when she was younger, as everyone does at some point. In fact the Ashley from Mass Effect 1 was quite rebellious and quite vocal in her challenge of authority. Even being unafraid to talk back to authority figures (especially the case if she's talking back to renegade Shepard).

I got the impression that a lot of her rebellious attitude came from resentment about all the problems she's had in her career for being a Williams, after all it's kind of the main basis for a lot of her biases. Maybe back when she was younger, she carried resentment towards the Alliance military for how her family name was treated after the First Contact War. Hence joining up even though she was blacklisted was an open act of defiance as well as loyalty to her family.
Like:
"Yes, I know my name is Blacklisted. No I don't care and yes I'm marching in anyway, get used to it holmes!"

Or something like that. It's a trait I have to admire in Ash, she sticks to her convictions regardless of how difficult her life gets and she never gives up and pretty much tells people where they can shove their attitudes about her family. I applaud her for that.

I also applaud how her main character arch is getting her to get over the denial she's had about who to blame for her Grandfather and family name being blacklisted. That rather than blaming the Council or Turians the ones who deserve the blame are the Alliance people in charge, hence having now come to accept that, she's able to let her past prejudices be put aside.

Yep, there was potential for a great moment of character development in there.... and then it all got taken away.

*Frustration rising just a little bit*

Double post.

God I hate it when that happens.

Ah well, might as well use the space for something productive:

If it gives me an excuse to use this picture in a forum post. I'll do it.:innocent:

EDIT: Also I'm turning in, it's past midnight where I am right now. Keep posting everyone else, Ash is worth it.

-_-

In addition to (obviously) reminding me of Ash, it also reminds me of Japan.

Love the art guys! That top of the page one is awesome Zeuss.

I too think Ash had a rebellious side, or rather appeared to in some cases. I think when she was younger, her morals and convictions were just as strong as they are now, and in possible protest to anything that may have gone against either, she would've spoken her mind, which probably came off as or was considered rebellious. (heh heh, can you say, run-on-sentence?)

Seems appropriate to repost something I wrote a loooooong time ago ....

We all know the mission, and what is at stake.
We have come to trust that Ash will be in ME3 - but I have also heard murmurs of discontent regarding where things might be going. I share your concerns.
We are trained to always be on-topic; we would be more vocal, but the old thread got locked.
Spam posting is not our way.
Think of our hero: the Gunnery Chief, who was the sole survivor of her unit on Eden Prime. Or the Operations Chief, who kept armies of angry fans at bay with a single emailed note.
These appearances do not seem to give us solace here, but they are not all that we hope for.
Before ME2, there were the old forums. We are not just an Ash support group, we are soldiers!
Our influence did nothing to help prevent her cameo, but before that we held the line!
Our influence has attracted trolls and new posters, but before that we held the line!
Our influence will (hopefully, fingers-crossed and all that) bring Ash back to ME3; in the battle today, and always WE WILL HOLD THE LINE!

Wow, this is absolutely amazing!

I'm glad you reposted it silver, as I hadn't seen it before! XD

That is like, one of my favortie parts of ME1 (the Kirrahe speech) ... and to have it be about Ashley makes it even more enjoyable! Well done. :D

EDIT: and omg... there are some great pictures on this page as well!!! well done chig... I love that picture!

Interesting. Safe for viewing, no spoilers about Ash or anything else.
http://www.vg247.com...of-mass-effect/

But I go back to the question I asked a few pages ago...talking about how important feedback is sounds great, but exactly how are they getting this feedback they claim to be listening to? No one who works for Bioware has called me up and asked my opinion. Or even sent me a survey of what I thought of ME/ME2 or what I'd like to see in ME3. If I had to bet money, I'd say what they're "listening to" is reviews by magazines like pcgamer or things like that, so really the only "feedback" they care to actively seek out is professional reviews of the games. That's understandable, but hardly classifies as the kind of "we listened super hard to the fans" they make it sound like.  Which means don't get your hopes up fellas, I doubt the reviewers at pcgamer magazine and such really get into the whole relationship dynamic the way we (and a lot of fans) get into.
