I'm just a bit concerned about the way he answered the last question. I mean, what did he mean when he said "you know, you have to pick and choose which characters you want to bring back and decide if their plotlines are worth continuing" (paraphrased)?

Maybe I'm paranoid, but it almost felt like it was directed at characters like the VS.

Oh well... They could have thrown in Ash, made Arrival available after the IFF is recovered and sold it 800 points instead of 560 and gotten my money right away...

As it is, I'll buy it later in the year... it'll still be there and I'm not in any rush to help out Hackett.

@Melindil: Well, we haven't gotten good news about our favorite characters since the release of Mass Effect in 2007, so I don't think paranoia is unprecedented or unreasonable.

Normally I am an optimist, but I think you may be right.   It just seems like he/they are not that interested in those characters and have completely written them off.    This next dlc was a very good opportunity to tie in the survivor as it appears to have a lot to do with the Alliance, but seeing how they might not have taken it, I have to assume that they have no intention to.
It's their story, they can do what they want, but I am a little disappointed.

I'll wait till Arrival fully comes out before I pass judgement but as it stands it seems like they really do not care for the VS.

I'm glad someone was able to clue me in on the chat...for some reason I couldnt see it.

@Raanz, I hear you. Even after hearing that, I still find myself holding on to the fact that he also added that they watch the forums and pay attention to the support that characters get and take that into account. The VS has a lot of haters, but there is a lot of support on the forums too. I can't imagine that someone on the writing team wouldn't stand up and say, "No, we need to keep these characters and do them justice. They have fans too." I also can't imagine that there isn't at least one person on the writing team who really appreciates Ashley (and Kaidan).

I thought I had read at one point that the original writer for those characters is no longer on the team. Is that right? Anyone know?
If so, I can see them being put on the shelf for good.

I can say that the original writer for Ash is gone.  Not sure about Kaiden..

Chris L'etoile is definitely gone and Lukas Kristjanson (who wrote Kaidan) is on the DA2 team. Add that to the fact that Drew's gone as well and it definitely puts a damper on my optimism. They can't be they only writers who cared about the characters though.

In Ashley's case, Chris is gone from BioWare.  He also helped with Kaidan, as did Drew (who is working on that Star Wars thing), but Kaidan's original writer is also gone to the DA team.

I thought that Patrick Weekes liked both Kaidan and Ashley, and he's still around though?  *shrugs*

Honestly all this VS snubbing is really starting to get to me. I'm getting the same feeling that I had during LoTSB where nearly EVERY character in the Mass Effect series had some form of cameo or dossier except for Ashley/Kaidan. It's pissing me off. :?

Saying this here, because my fellow Kaidan fans usually frighten me away from their precious clique thread. . . . so, Ash/Kai will not be in Arrival, apparently. I've just assumed they would be. Liara 's romance continued in LotSB, so in my head, it made perfect sense to continue the VS romance.

Now, it seems 2/3 of my main LI's will not be carried out to see any sort of significant ME3 role.

this "some characters may not be worth continuing" crap from Mac Walters has me worried for the first time ever. And frankly, this snubbing of the VS future role is enough to make me wait until my bf is done playing the game before I try it.

And forget playing Arrival now.

I know!  *is fuming*  but weren't we told that the VS has not been forgotten about?  There's got to be some way of confirming this...

@Milla: Jesse Houston said so in a PM. But so far they're just words.

...to private messages to devs and Christina Norman's twitter!  That's the only chance we'd have at anything and even then I don't know that we'd get an answer.

I'd try to keep hope up a little bit guys. They've said a number of things that hint at the VS being around for ME3, and don't forget, there's 12 other squadies that Mac could have been referencing with that statement, hell, he could have been talking about Conrad, Shiala, Gianna, etc. Even when you look at character threads, Ash and Kaid have a lot of support for characters from a game that's 3 years old (I'm not counting their cameos as a real appearance). Ash will be back.

They were someone else's creations.  And now they are forgotten because the current batch of writers have their own favorite characters that they created.
I see this all the time in Star Wars books.  There's a good, strong character that's created by one author, but another doesn't quite know what to do with that character and so they get sidelined or killed off.  :(

I'm not giving up hope just yet. @Rdubs... perhaps it's time to write that letter. At least it may be time to write "A" letter.

My favorite thing about that pic is Ash's expression. I feel like it's totally in-character. She would not take her shafting lying down, that's for sure.

Sad about no Ash and Kai in Arrival too. :-( I guess we fans are just going to have to stick together and keep up the support in the hopes of seeing a better treatment of our dear characters in ME3.

It's really hard to keep up hope given the treatment of Ashley and Kaidan in LotSB and the Genesis mini-comic. But I, for one, am going to keep trying. Love and courage to all those reading and posting here! :-)

They way they're treating her I almost hope they leave her alone rather than do any more damage to her.

I'm contemplating replaying the game and intentionally killing off Miranda and Tali. If only there were a way to off Liara I hate that smug blue...

I'm taking the liberty of reposting Silver's awesome rallying cry here. A pick-me-up for the faithful.

We all know the mission, and what is at stake.
We have come to trust that Ash will be in ME3 - but I have also heard murmurs of discontent regarding where things might be going. I share your concerns.
We are trained to always be on-topic; we would be more vocal, but the old thread got locked.
Spam posting is not our way.
Think of our hero: the Gunnery Chief, who was the sole survivor of her unit on Eden Prime. Or the Operations Chief, who kept armies of angry fans at bay with a single emailed note.
These appearances do not seem to give us solace here, but they are not all that we hope for.
Before ME2, there were the old forums. We are not just an Ash support group, we are soldiers!
Our influence did nothing to help prevent her cameo, but before that we held the line!
Our influence has attracted trolls and new posters, but before that we held the line!
Our influence will (hopefully, fingers-crossed and all that) bring Ash back to ME3; in the battle today, and always WE WILL HOLD THE LINE!
