Beige couldn't agree with you more, if Ash was out of the picture my Shep would almost grow horns as he stops being mr. nice guy. If there's no more hope of having Ash in his life romantically, well, it would be a lot like my playthrough of Witch Hunt (Dragon Age:Origins DLC). My Warden fell hard for Morrigan like Shep did for Ash, and when Bioware released this DLC where you could go find her, he didn't give a f*ck about anyone or anything except cutting to the chase to find her. Normally he would respond to something he came across as, "What's that little boy, you lost your puppy, let me stop my current mission and see if I can find him for you." But trying to track her down, every response was basically something curt, short and a bit dick like "I don't care, what does this have to do with finding her." Same thing gonna happen in ME3, if Ash is gone, Shep will still save the galaxy or whatever but there are going to be a lot more unhappy people, unfound puppies and bodies then there otherwise would be.
Yes, as I said in a earlier post, my Shepard would not necessarily go totally renagade, but he would definitely be driven to get the job done as quickly as possible so he could get back to her. LOVE is a powerful force. The JOB is extremely important, but.... Ash is his life, he's focused on the JOB but, SHE is what is driving him. Everything he does going forward, every decision he makes, has HER in mind. He can't help it, SHE is his everything! SHE COMPLETES HIM!
Like two sides of the same coin.
The JOB will get done mind you, but..... without HER there is nothing.
