Too much "Jerry Maguire"? Don't worry, I like this movie too, it's very romantic. Especially amazingly cute Renee Zellweger.

Annoyingly, you could never tell Garrus, No, this is imortant. SDo the calibrations later.
Same with all over them really, like Ash.
Ashley, it's my ship, I'll tell you if you need to get your duties squared away, kapeesh?!

Question for the thread...

If Ash were to die and Shep had the option to pull a "project lazarus" on her and bring her back, would your Shep do it? If yes.. why? If no.. why?

I don't think my canon!Shep would.  While love is ultimately one of the most selfish emotions, I'd argue true love means overcoming that very selfishness.  My Shep hated being brought back from the dead.  He's not religious, but it violated all the sanctity and respect he feels the dead should be treated with.  He loves Ash too much to disrespect her in that way.

I'm gonna have to travel in the same general direction as Batlass did. I don't believe my canon Shepherd would do it - even if all the resources were there. Why? My Shepherd believes in fate. Fate brought him back once because there was a universal need. If he had her resurrected, it would be simply to satisfy his own selfishness. She wouldn't want that and he knows it.

Now say for example, TIM got Ash's body and restarted the Lazarus project for her, simply as a show of grateful appreciation for Shep's heroic contributions to humankind in the galaxy, my Shep would be more inclined to look upon that as a sign of fate and be more accepting of it.

But make the choice himself? No. He loves who she is and what she stands for too much to think that she would accept him doing that. It's better not to ****** off Ashley twice in life.

Fate.... I don't believe in that at all.

If Ash died, your shep has two choices. Revive her or don't. If fate was to believed, no matter which choice he took the outcome would be fate.

I see your point,  but....For my canon!Shep, TRUE LOVE is the very reason he would do everything in his power to bring her back. You have to remember that the lazarus project IS possible in the mass effect universe. For TRUE LOVE, what is possible, is attempted. To me its a 'no choice' decision. TRUE LOVE DICTATES THE PACE of his every action. Her TRUE LOVE would expect nothing less from her Skipper.

Edit:     It's like:    What would be the hardest thing to accomplish for TRUE LOVE in the real world? Wouldn't you do the same in the mass effect world if possible? Yes, my Shep would.   Is it selfish? Maybe. Would it be selfish not to try, if her TRUE LOVE would expect him too. Hm........ I'm thinking.Posted Image

I've started voting in those polls the past few weeks.

I used to not bother with it, but the lack of Ash/Kadian in Arrival has made me decide to start voting in them whenever I can.

I agree..Shep cares to much for Ashley now that it would affect him too much to even hide it which in turn affects his moral decisions. Would be trying to bring back someone that died due to unaltered love be selfsh...yes but my Shep would scour the entire galaxy forever if there was even a glimmer that he could bring back Ash from the dead.  My canon shep would give up everything to see and touch her one more time if she went down.

Actually my canon shep would do the whole "Window of Opportunity," An try forever to bring her back...and Jack wouldnt change his mind.

I just wonder if Ashley would feel different in her feelings towards Sheppard if he actually DID go through with it.

Well I don't believe in fate either.  My canon Shep does.  That's the nice thing about RPG's. Posted Image

Not from my Shep's perspective.  If you believe fate took her life, to change that, in and of yourself, is an attempt to change fate rather than accept it.  From an outsiders perspective, whatever happens to someone, to them it is all fate.  Fate is ambigous.

Now if it was me?  Well, I'm a selfish guy and she'd be back faster than you can say pass the gravy.  But I had to answer true to the character I've created.

Yes, Yes,... That is what I am struggling with. I am confident in what my Shep would do. What would Ashley's feelings be? Would SHE, loving him so much, expect him to do the Lazarus Project and bring her back? What would be considered "selfish"?
I need the Ash experts to weigh in. Those who have a better grasp of her character than I.

This is an excellent question for pondering. I know my canon!Shep would do it without a second thought, at least unless she had specifically asked him not to (I don't know how that would ever come up, but there's always the outside possibility), and depending on the manner of her death. Of course, throughout the whole process, he'd constantly be tormenting himself with the question "Am I doing this for her, or just for me?"

He knows it’s possible to be brought back from the dead (or the very nearly for-all-clinical-purposes dead), and he would reason that if it were God’s plan for her to be dead, then nothing he could do would bring her back, and I think this is how Ashley would see it, if not necessarily right away.

I am not a huge Ashley expert butsince she is so religious I see her having survivor guilt. This in turn would probably turn into suicidal tendencies....then again I'm not a ashley expert.
