Yep. Another chapter is up. I kind of changed the premise of the story, as it now is about Ashley running from Cerberus, Miranda looking for her sister, and I'll include more characters as I go.

I think she'd almost view it as being selfish on Shepard's part to resurrect her. I don't think the language she'd hurl at him upon realizing it would be safe for a public forum... From my perspective the technology to raise the dead doesn't reconcile well with faith. Ash has a careful construct of faith that she lives by - if she were to die and see that it isn't what she believes, it could be devastating.

I think Ashley would reconsile being brought back to life without memories of an afterlife either one of two ways;

One --this is assuming she is Christian--; since there are ressurection stories in the Bible already and the person being ressurected has no memory of heaven because an earthly life would be unbearable in comparison, she would simply reduce the same thing happened to her.

Two; since she believes in God as an all-knowing entity, she would believe that God knew that Shepard would bring her body back to life, so her soul just never left her body.

I can confidently say now that my Shep would not bring her back.  And Ash would say  "Thanks skipper for understanding!"

Your shep is stronger then my shep. My shep wont try to show hes hurting but when hes alone hed brood and hate everything in the galaxy due to not having ashley. How your shep can let her go like that is beyond my sheps understanding.

It's not that he wouldn't desperately want to bring her back if he could. But knowing her so well, he would understand her feelings (considering her Faith and all). Because of his deep love for her, he would respect her wishes. You are correct; it would take great strength for him to do this.
The important thing for me was, her wishes. My initial view was based on the driving force of true love.  Shepard loves her, she loves him, enough said.    But.... Love and Faith are more complex then that,  as others have brought out during this discussion.  What Ash would want, was the determining factor in my case.
Now, if she would actually want him to bring her back, then that would change things. But to me, that would be out of character.

Edit:  After all, It's everything about Ashs' character that my Shep fell in love with. She is not ordinary, but extraordinary! Posted Image

If my Sheps would decide to not bring her back to life, they'd most definitly be naming a daughter after them if they lived to have children. "Ashley Madeline Williams Jr.(?) clean your room! don't make me get Uncle Wrex over here!"

I can see where your coming from and agree to an extent that IF her dying wish was to just let her die then my shep would live alone and meloncholy....although IF there was no last words specifically stating that she wanted to stay dead or if Shep wasnt by her side when it happened he'd do everything to bring her back....my canon would want her alive even if that meant she hated him now then dead and gone.

Legend- I would have thought Wrex and Grunt would be the ones causing havok and mischief with Shep's kid haha. Posted Image

I was under the impression that shep would nam etheir daughter after ashley if she died. I doubt Ashley would want a Jr. running around her hoursehold. she'd think it'd get confusing when soeone would say "Ashley" and they both answer XD

I'm sorry, but how anyone would be ungrateful for being brought back to life is beyond me....

I'd hug and kiss and throw cookies etc if someone brought me back to life.

edit: and that's one of the reasons my Shepard sides with Cerberus.... bringing him back to life deserves a chance to prove they can do what they say.... which they did by the end of ME2. What did the council do? nothing... what did the alliance do? nothing...

but, I digress.

Little Ashley would be soooooo cute!!! XD

/well that'de new for Ashley since she'd be a Williams more than a Shepard. plus she might hyphenate Ashely Madelin Williams-ShepardPosted Image
@Reed
I know right? The aliiance didn't even bother looking for your body, but Cerberus gets it, gets liara to keep it form the Shadow broker and then they do the rest and bam, new and improved Shepard!Posted Image

Keep in mind, it would be rather difficult for the Alliance to search for Shepard's body, given that the Normandy was lost in the Terminus Systems. I would go so far to say that it would be irresponsible to launch an operation that could potentially spark a war just to recover a body.

Also, there's the little fact that the Alliance had no idea that it was possible to bring someone back from the dead, and even if they had, it almost certianly would have raised concerns (on moral/ethical grounds) with the civilian Parliament that the Alliance has to answer to. Because, unlike a shadowy terrorist group, a real government actually has to have things like, you know... oversight.

EDIT: On that note, I've always wondered how long Cerberus was working on technology capable of bringing someone back from the dead, and how many slaves/kidnapped humans they considered "acceptable losses" in the experiments.  Frankly, Cerberus had to have had some kind of base research before they started working on Shepard.  That kind of advancement doesn't just spring up overnight.

It makes me wonder: Did Toombs really survive the Thresher attack? Or was he one of the first people Cerberus brought back from the dead, an early lab rat they used while perfecting the technology?

Send a team of N7 operatives to find the body of one of their own. They ahve the normandy's last coordinates who'd care if ONE ship went ot an uninhabitable planet? I'm surprised Shepar'ds LI didn't go to get Shepard's body, just Liara no matter how terrible Shepard treated her in the past. I even had a PT where My Shep said everything but "I'll kill you in your sleep"Posted Image

Sorry, but I think even that would be irresponsible.  Relations with the Terminus Systems are obviously rather tense, even in the best of times. Shepard and the Normandy went in because they were trying to root out some of the last remaining pockets of Geth in case they tried to launch operations from the T Systems, a mission that arguably was worth the risks that came with entering the Terminus. Recovering a few bodies, however, simply isn't worth the risk of starting a major conflict.  Especially in 2183, when, for all the Alliance knew, another Geth attack might have been in the works.

Frankly, I just don't get the Alliance hate.  Shepard was a hero, yes, but he was still just one person.  He knew the risks when he signed up.  There was never any promise that he'd be "brought back from the dead" if he died in combat, nor any promise that his body would even be recovered.

I especially don't get why Cerberus is worshipped for bringing Shepard back to life. My Shepard certainly didn't ask them to. And he wonders every day how many people they tortured/experimented on just to perfect the Lazerous Project technology so they could use it on him.

EDIT: Sorry, I realize this is all off topic. It just really cheeses me when people bash the Alliance and praise Cerberus. Cerberus is a godd*mn terrorist group.  I'll take a little stonewalling and red tape any day over the type of things that Cerberus did to my Shepard's unit on Akuze, or the type of things they did to Jack.

It's irresponsible to go round up the wreckage of the msot advanced Ship in the Alliance navy? one that priates could salvage and use to attack colonies in council space like Elysium? A Spectre Ship! It's not like the council doesn't care about it's spectre's since they blame Nihlus's death on Shepard to begin with. If Shepard WASN'T a spectre then I'd say it was, but since She was a spectre, one that destroyed a Reaper and stopped an invasion of the Citadel I'd say her body deserved to be searched for.

i still like the Allaince but they bascially threw you udner the bus to appease the council, they denounce ties with you when you return and even wanted to capture and torture you if not for Hackett. Granted Mac Walter's loves TIM and Cerberus, but still there's no reason for the Allaince and council to diss their Hero like that. It's even WORSE if you killed the original council, since the council you helped install doens't even want to Thank you.

Cerberus is "worshipped" because they're the only one's fighting the real threat. the geth weren't harmful after Sovereign was destroyed but the council and alliance send you after them anyway. Cerberus isn't worried about the public and they giveShepard anything She needs to get the job done. It's alos why I ahte Horizon because obviously Cerberus isn't involved with the collectors but Ashley and Kaidan are made to think so. Dumbasses.Posted Image

I digress though Cerberus believes you no matter what the council calls you crazy and stupid and the Alliance just nods and smiles.
