Keep in mind, it would be rather difficult for the Alliance to search for Shepard's body, given that the Normandy was lost in the Terminus Systems. I would go so far to say that it would be irresponsible to launch an operation that could potentially spark a war just to recover a body.

They sent Ashley to Horizon, which is in the Terminus. A war won't start over one ship.

Also, there's the little fact that the Alliance had no idea that it was possible to bring someone back from the dead, and even if they had, it almost certianly would have raised concerns (on moral/ethical grounds) with the civilian Parliament that the Alliance has to answer to. Because, unlike a shadowy terrorist group, a real government actually has to have things like, you know... oversight.

Which is exactly why Cerberus is right for the job, IMO.

what was it that Anderson and Udina said at the beginning of ME1? ... "That's the only kind of person who can protect the galaxy"... or something to that effect.

It applies here as well.

What I don't get is the whole... "moral/ethical" objection to being brought back to life! Seems to me, one should be grateful to be returned to the land of the living. Not to mention given a chance to finish what you started against the reapers. Also, it seems to me that Paragons... while they wouldn't like working for a "terrorist" organization... they seem to me like they should be willing to go with the flow to stop the threat before worrying about working for Cereberus...

Ash's cover was that she was part of an outreach mission. She undoubtedly had permission from the government of the Horizon colony to be there.  Basically, she was a diplomat, at least as far as anyone knew.

As far as a war starting - the Terminus governments, pirates, merc groups, etc, are highly volatile, so its hard to say what could cause them to start a war.  That's the whole reason the Alliance is careful when dealing with them.  At the very least, any time a Citadel power enters Terminus territory, it risks causing the Terminus Systems powers to cooperate more and fight each other less, which is something the Citadel and the Alliance both want to avoid.

Then send a search party on on a ship disguised as a merchant ship or something.

My Shepard worrys about working for Cerberus because they only care about themselves, and dominating everyone else.

There's no doubt in my mind that, after the Reapers are defeated, TIM will use any Reaper tech he has to to advance his own goals and ambitions, no matter how many people have to be thrown under the bus or outright killed. His own statement - "Cerberus is humanity" - is deeply and profoundly disturbing, and is a perfect illustration as to why they shouldn't be trusted.

No one group can ever truly represent ALL of humanity, not even in the ME universe.  Cerberus is only a small, narrow minded, paranoid part of humanity, and the fact that TIM feels that somehow his warped views speak for everyone gives me serious concerns about what would happen to the important ideals that my Shepard fights for - like democracy and freedom - should Cerberus ever end up in a serious position of power.

The Alliance may not be perfect, but at least it's a democracy, and there's a chance to bring about change through free elections. At least when Cerberus isn't  subverting the public will by rigging them, or assassinating politicians who get in their way.

EDIT: I think one of my favorite Battlestar Galactica quotes applies here: "It's not enough to survive. One has to be worthy of surviving."

You know, DWH, I never thought about Cerberus doing research on human subjects to make Project Lazarus successful, but now that you've brought it up, I can't stop thinking about it; it's sobering. The Alliance is far from perfect, but I can't imagine them performing horrible tests on live (or recently alive) sentient subjects. Ash's assertion on Horizon that the Collectors might be working with Cerberus made little sense to my Shep mostly because he thinks Cerberus would prefer to help the Collectors abduct batarian (or other non-human) colonies.

And, not to be the thread police, but the Cerberus/Alliance discussion is starting to veer off-topic. Just a heads-up.

I never said anything about Cerberus taking over anything.... nor did I say that TIM should be allowed free reign after the reapers are defeated, b/c even Cerberus couldn't stand against the council/alliance fleet and armies.

Also, you didn't answer why you object to Cerberus bringing Shepard back to life.

Though, we shouldn't be talking about this in here... the OT maybe?
Don't wanna get the thread locked, so... someone ask an Ash question!!! LOL

Jacob said Project Lazarus only had one subject, Shepard.

Ashley no like off topic!

Yeah, I agree, and I apologize for the off topicness. I actually tried to stay away, but this subject just gets me so wound up...

EDIT: @AD: The key words there are "Project Lazarus."  PL could have been based on research from other projects.  We don't really know how long Cerberus was researching this tech.  It's such a technological leap, that my assumption is that there were likely other projects in the works long before Shepard died, and PL used that research as a foundation.

Besides, I seriously doubt Jacob knows everything that Cerberus does.

New question for the thread:

Shepard comes back from the edge of the galaxy, shaken by what he's seen there, so shaken that he tracks Ashley down and insists that they disappear because they can do nothing against the Reaper invasion. How does Ashley respond?
