Who says she won't be available the whole game? Available to some extent seems to point to someone like Liara f.e. because, well, she is the new Shadow Broker.

It would seem that, worst case scenario, she'll be temporary. Or maybe we won't get her back until the end of the game; in which case she'll be really awesome and we'll all be like "Ugh I could've used you during that one boss fight,". But I can accept that. I just hope we at least have the option of keeping her by our side at the end. Probably being too sentimental, but I'm longing for a ride-off-into-the-sunset kind of ending.

You make a good point. Didn't think of that, but I was just speculating.

While it could go either way at this point, I very seriously doubt they would completely redesign her appearance, and a brand new outfit to boot for a temporary squad mate. She looks like she's gotten the complete companion makeover. If the article is hinting at possible temporary companions it'd probably be liara, as she's got much the same appearance and same exact outfit. Anyways, they've not made any temporary companions yet, so I doubt they're going to start now.

Though I completely understand and even mirror some of your pessimism.

(quick side note: I'm taking your banner, because Sebastian makes me weak in the kness. To keep this semi-relevant, I've been pleasantly surprised that, with the myriad of characters that Bioware has made of varying moral compasses, I've found the religious ones to be among the most likeable)

I agree the makeover shows she'll be of great significance, though there's a chance it may just pertain to the whole story. She could be vital to the plot with minimal time in the party.

There have been temporary companions, but they were very...ordinary looking and they were...well, very temporary. Whatever Ashley's status is, it surely won't be like that.

Keep this in mind too: 

Games always look radically different in the months before they actually come out.

Remember the look of the first ME1 trailers/screenshots compared to the actual game? Don't worry yourselves with it, Ash/ME3 fans

HEY!  THERE WILL BE NO PESSIMISM UNTIL WE HAVE SOMETHING TO BE PESSIMISTIC ABOUT!
I, for one, am glad Jessie Housten was right about Ashley not being forgotten and even changed her appearence for the final installment.  I'm just glad that my favorite characters are back for the final run.

I haven't been this excited for Mass Effect 3 since--well, I've NEVER been excited for Mass Effect 3! This new info gives me great hope, and while I'm sure a million different worries will soon assail me, I'm going to take today off from the pessimism, because Ashley fans just got some great news and I'm going to bask in it for at least ten more hours.

And might I say that I ADORE Ashley's hair-down look? I was quite attached to her classic appearance, but I'll take her back with a makeover in a heartbeat over not getting her back at all.

All the fuss is over a line in the magazine that lists the following characters as playable "to some extent." We're probably all blowing it way out proportion. They were likely given these guys as squad mates, or they saw screens or got some hands on with them in their squad or something, but I imagine they added that line to cover their own butts because they couldn't be sure they'd stick around 100% of the time. They needed a line to fall back on incase they were wrong. I'm not going to say anymore on it, because it really is silly.

Her old costume would be a nice alternate costume like the ones you get after the loyalty mission. Would seem pretty dumb to have to do a loyalty mission after saving her from a nuke and romancing her but more Ashley = good. Actually just more missions = good.

I love her but again you have to remember her past and why she was on Eden Prime and how the alliance has been low balling her.

and you also have to remember that she was part of the team that stopped Saren. She's already been promoted and who knows what Anderson had her doing during the 2 years Shepard was dead. She was sent into the terminus systems for pete's sake and the Alliance and council aren't welcome there, so she must at least be special forces.

Honestly, I think Ashley would become a Corsair before becoming a Spectre. Ever since Saren's betrayal, Spectre's aren't held in the same high esteem as they once were, and the fact that VS has actually been vocal in their support of Shepard, it would lead me to believe the Alliance  would still try to keep them on a leash so to speak.

My guess is squadmates will probably be interchangable depending on the mission. IE some portions of the game you're with Ashley/Garrus/Liara, other portions you're teaming up with Legion/Mordin/etc.

not sure what you mean. at it's current state the story is when Shepard has recruited Mordin on Omega and Shep is about to recruit Grunt then come back for Garrus. so nothing from ME3 hsa any effect just yet.

I mean, is it gonna be Rockstar!ShepxMiranda/Jacob/Ash? Now that Ash is confirmed for ME3? Though I still don't see where exactly you changed the pairing except in your notes :/
