Ashley seem to have S7 insignia on her castsuit on GI picture. N is for special forces. What does S stand for?

S7 indicates her proficiency. From the wikia:

"The Alliance Military Vocational Code system classifies the career path of all serving personnel. The MVC consists of one letter and one number. A soldier's MVC indicates proficiency, not rank. The letter notes career path; the number indicates level of experience, as indicated by service record, technical scores, and commendations. All 26 letters are used, and numbers run from 1 to 7. N is the letter code for Special Forces personnel. "

Source: Systems Alliance: N7.

I couldn't find more than that.

I dunno, I like the new Ash look personally. Granted, I hope she gets real armor and not a version Miranda's latex stripper form-fitting combat suit. Now the long hair I dig, the bun made sense in ME1 and 2, but I want to see her relax and be Ashley, not Gunnery Chief Williams. :wizard:

Agreed. BTW - she should be 2nd LT or Operations Chief at  least.

So she's probably not a spectre. Oh well, that would have seemed a bit out of character.

There have been a number of conversations about the potential for promoting Ash.

I don't have a very firm grasp of military ranks, but as I understand it, she has gone as far as she can without becoming a commissioned officer.

There's an argument that Ash really wouldn't want to become a commissioned officer.  I tend to agree with it.  It would mean she'd likely see combat less, and have to do paperwork more.

I can't really see her going for that.

Ash's ME3 rank is "Operations Chief", which is the job description of an E-7 in the Marine Corps. They are the operation cheif for thier company.

Assuming they're using Marine ranks, a Gunnery Sergeant E-7. There are two ranks above her: E-8 Master Sergeant and E-9 Master Gunnery Sergeant.

Depending on her position, though, she could be a First Sergeant (E8) or Sergeant Major (E9).

The Alliance doesn't use Marine ranks.

If you check Ash's entry at the Mass Effect Wiki, it notes (under the ME2 section) that she was promoted to Operations Chief by ME2.

According to the Codex Entry on Systems Alliance Ranks, Ash has gone as far as she can without becoming an officer:

http://masseffect.wi..._Military_Ranks

I personally doubt she'd really WANT to be an officer.

Pity. Sergeant Major Ashley Williams just has this... extremely sexy, authoritative vibe to it.

Do you guys think they are going to make someone go "Bastilla?"

I mean do you think Bio will make someone in your party betray you? They kind of hinted at a few things that could bite you in the butt later down the line...
EDI not having full control of her systems
Legion and having contact with almost the entire Geth population
Jack going postal
Miranda still being under IM control
Speculation
Tali taking over normandy to save Migrant Fleet
Samara seeing something wrong in what you did and wants to take you down

Do you think Ashley could become corrupted like Bastilla? Maybe having her kidnapped due to her being so close to Shep and indoctrinated. Would you guys be able to kill her if she goes off on all your squadmates on the Normandy? Or will you fall "Sith?"

Yeah, I'm hoping that they don't do that with Ash. Not after all the crap we had to take with ME2.

Miranda, maybe, could be a liability if she's on the squad, since her sister is under Cerberus protection. That said, even in her case, I tend to think she'd come to Shepard with any problem, and not just stab him in the back.

If you know her at all - she does. Her reason for joining the Alliance army was to clear the name of her disgraced grandfather, who was a general in the First Contact War. Her father did the same, but was denied promotion higher that serviceman third class because of this stain on the family name. She was also mistreated because of this by command, but since she proved herself during ME1, they gave her this small promotion to Operations Chief. I bet were it no for that family matter she would have been an officer long ago.

IF she does become an officer wouldnt she become her own ship captain? Which would mean that she wouldnt be on the Normandy anymore due to commanding her own ship.....that is a bad thing....

I doubt she would suddenly obtain the rank of captain. Even Shepard doesn't have it yet. And he got the ship by sheer luck, because he was promoted to Spectre and captain Anderson stepped down from commanding the Normandy.
They may give her lieutenant rank, just to match Alenko, but I somehow doubt it. I think Ash will have to again work hard in ME3 for command to grudgingly give her another promotion.

But remember even IF you went straight at Soverign we lost lots of alliance ships not to mention the Reaper fleet. Wouldnt it be possible that the Alliance would need every man/women that has a very good record to be put up in high ranking positions? This would then come full circle with her finally fixing her name being the end of the trilogy and all. Then again that would be she wouldnt be with us...so i dont want it to happen.

I think what you suggest may happen at the end ME3, accolades and all that stuff. That would be more satisfying story wise, helping her in that way.

She's a marine, not navy. And yes Shepard was also marine, but he was also first human spectre that's why he got the command of the Normandy.

I'm not sure you can really compare the Alliance with any of the worlds armed forces, there will always be similarities but it lookslike a new system to me.
I don't see them promoting Ash except maybe to match Kaiden, Shep is the star and (s)he's supposed to be incredible. I don't see them wanting anyone to steal Sheps limelight by making them a Spectre.

what your shep can't handle some help? Shepard even says theydon't always want to lead ash and Ash wants to be the best of the best, I'd love it if Ash's armor had the spectre symbol on it,I'd squee like a little girl in fact. two spectre's are better than one you know.Posted Image

I think there is a facebook one but this one isn't affiliated with that one in any way.

As for Ashley's ranking, you can't really compare it to any of the actual military rankings.  Before ME1 even came out Chris L'etoile who wrote Ash talked about her Gunnery Chief rank and how in normal military she would never have a rank like that.  I guess it's pretty high up in real life.

I like Operations Chief myself.  Even if she has an important job it's still low enough on the totem pole so to speak to not garner too much attention if she has to go into a covert situation - like Horizon.

I dont think Ashley will be a spectre. it does not follow quite the council for this. She always preferred to defend humanity first, serving Alliance. " It's in her blood " Moreover, her blue uniform to prove it. Her rank has been moving within the alliance.

I think it's most likely that Ashley still has the same rank, but is occupying some special position. This was hinted at in ME2.

I agree that Ash's rank probably isn't that important, but her job is. She's kind of a special case - some sort of operative. I mean....why else would she wear a cat suit? That's what operatives do. XD

Operatives for the win.
