It's not racism, nothing Ashley says is racism. Anything Geth related out of Tali's mouth IS racist though. but as usual aliens can gt away with it cuz they're cool aliens.

Doesnt Tali go crazy when she first sees Legion saying that SHep should destroy him? Isnt that a little racist to another species? Not to mention the mass genocide that you can initiate for the Quarians.

In Tali's defense, Legion is unique when it comes to the Geth.  I think
it would've been a little odd if when saw him for the first time she was
just like.. "Hey, cool Geth.. you're just full of surprises Shepard."
..   I'd be just as surprised if Ash was just instantly ok with EDI..
It wouldn't make any sense based on who they are and the experiences they've had.  I don't find those
reactions to be racist though.. Just cautious, and rightfully so.

Shouldnt the same courtesy go to Ashley then?

She has been planetside with almost NO contact with aliens and with her whole family ordeal wouldnt her first reaction to an alien species be justified instead of crucifying her racist?

I've given up on trying to convince the Ash critics.

They're everywhere, and they obviously can't be bothered to pay attention to, or think through, what Ash is actually saying. The "Bear/Dog" comment is a perfect example.

The irony is, depending on how ME3 plays out, Ash could turn out to be right in that regard. It sounds to me like the rest of the galaxy might initially plan to use humanity as a barrier against the Reapers, and have to be dragged in to actually fighting to liberate Earth.

In any event, as much as I think the Council is a net plus for the galaxy, Ash's suspicions certainly aren't unwarranted. For all their good, the Council is insular, unrepresentative, and has demonstrated a remarkable willingness to use other races for their own survival, and then throw them under the bus when they become uncooperative or too much of a problem.

I absolutely agree grifter.. There's no logical explanation as to why people decide to hate on Ash and not on anyone else.. It literally doesn't make sense. I mean.. It would be just as easy to label any ME character negatively, but somehow Ash gets the bulk of it. And now apparently Ash fans everywhere are mostly Americans and Ash is a hillbilly gun slingin blah blah blah... Can't remember who posted that, but wow... just wow..

I agree...in ME1 the council acted like HomoSapiens were children that needed to be coddeled and scolded to understand their "Place," In the galaxy. There are lots of places where they show racism TOWARDS humans....the damn bartender that poisons ALL humans?! The convo before you become a spectre that has an argument about a human becoming a spectre so fast, other species looking down on humans.

Ohh thats ok as long as a human doesnt have a different view point then "All aliens are good."

No joke I personally think thats how its going to happen in ME3.....Earth is somehow going to get the full attention of the reapers due to Shep being human and totally bypass the council races. Then I bet we actually HAVE to argue with the other races to help save Earth.

Shep saved almost everyone in 1 and now in 2 but no everyones going to forget that instantly....if anyone balks at the idea to save earth be it Samara all the way to Tali and everyone in between then my canon shep will turn its back on that old "Friend."

I don't think the tali/geth stuff is racist. Racism is discriminating against a race because they are different etc. Hate for a race because they have taken over your homeworld isn't racist. I wonder how many of the extremist anti racist people will hold that view if aliens invaded and enslaved us all.

Depends. Did we provoke the alien invaders by attacking them first, like the quarians did to the geth, or did they just invade us with no provocation?

While playing through ME1, hunting for the Soldier Ally achievement, I brought Ash and Wrex to Noveria and had the privilege of hearing Ash speak an absolutely brilliant line I had never heard before:

"Young men have some strange ideas about asari. I blame the extranet, and computer games.":P

Is that not awesome?:o

I don't think it was intended as a shot at Fox News.  Remember, the comment was probably in ME1 when it was released. And wasn't the whole mess with Fox News about a scene in ME1 after it was released?

Probably just an amusing coincidence.  There is, however, a shot at Fox News in the Bring Down the Sky DLC.

I'm bored, so here's some questions for you all:

Fun!  :wizard:

What do you think Ash's favourite colour is?  I think she's partial to blue.

What do you think Ash's idea of a good night out is? Relaxed beers with good friends.

What kind of music do you think she likes? Uptempo fun stuff she can dance and sing badly too during weapons maintenance.  And Brahms.

What kind of books do you think she likes reading? (aside from poetry) Historical nonfiction.  She's not a big reader though.

Do you think she has/has had a pet? If so, what kind?  A dog when she was a kid. It was killed in an unfortunate bear fighting accident (just kidding) :P

What's her favourite food?  She usually eats healthy, lots of lean proteins and veggies and carbs for her workouts.  But she's a sucker for a thick juicy burger - real cow not that synthetic crap they have in space.  And sweets.

Do you think she has any artisitic merit? She likes poetry, but do you think she's any good at writing it? Painting perhapes?   She's probably tried her hand at writing it.  And it's probably pretty good, but she probably thinks it's terrible.  Other than that she's not really the artsy type.

What's Ash's idea of a great holiday?  Ash is the active type, so a getaway that involves something like rock climbing or camping or enjoying the outdoors is perfect, but she'll want a nice room in a nice place to go back to for relaxing.  If there's a beach nearby, even better.

Ash is my Femshep's best bud and became that on my 1st play of Mass Effect.

Here was my Shep on Virmire trying to talk down a very angry Krogan.
Kaiden & Garrus were chatting about the upcoming battle
Tali was hanging with the supplies guy
Liara was watching the tide ...
Ash, she was armed, ears open to our discussion and ready to ensure that I walked away.

When Wrex fell, I was in shock but also very grateful that someone in my crew had my back. I love the Wrex character and that was the only time he died, but I knew who my Shep could really rely on in that moment. If a reaper has my Shep in a corner, I only hope that Ash is there again.

In english today we read Tennyson's Ulysses that Ash quotes in ME1. Needless to say i really enjoyed it, and there's a quote in there that i think should be used for ME3.

"Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."

It's perfect last line before the final battle with the reapers.

No real reason behind asking these, just passing the time...

Favorite Color:  Hot Pink,   Esp. roses from Skipper.Posted Image
Good night out:  Dinner, possibly a movie, then home and cuddle up by the fire with Shep.
Music: Dance Techno

Favorite Food: Organic, and Thai
Artistic merit: She's really good at taking things apart and putting them back together. Esp. Big Guns!
A great Holiday:  Cooking smores at the ocean, somewhere like the Oregon Coast. (with her Skipper)Posted Image

I think it is more of a troll attempt than a serious desire to understand why people like Ashley. Attach a known stereotype to Ash (hillbilly), associate those who like her with that stereotype, and point out that she ought to be very popular in America because we are afterall, mostly hillbillies. That person doesn't want to understand; just ruffle feathers.

Gee..why would I like Ash as a character. Hmm.
Ex-Military
Like classical literature and poetry
Person of faith
Have strong family ties
Have strong values that I believe in though others may disagree with my views

Oh...I have a southern accent, which automatically associates me with any number of undesireable sterotypes and the social stigmas attached to them. That has to be the real reason.

It takes a hillbilly to kill that oversized lizard (sorry Wrex) and keep my Shep going. Now we have crawdads coming and you know how southern folk love to suck a little crawdad .... They won't stand a chance against my hillbilly bud! Bring a big pot of water, case of beer, clips and the fight is on!

Funny enough, Ash never had to kill Wrex in my playthroughs, I either talked him down or killed him myself (the hillbilly in me I guess). My canon playthroughs I keep Wrex. I really liked him.

Don't forget the creole spice in dem crawdads.

Ash is bringing the spice, beans & cornbread and my Shep is bringing the Jack Daniels. We may not win the war but everyone will be drunk and fed before we die!
