Probably nothing serious. Shepard wasn't just another fling, she said she loved him on Horizon. I'd like to think that while she dated a few people to try and move on but nothing worked out. Either due to still missing Shepard, or that Shepard is her divine complement.

Well said amigo, but......let's not forget the James guy mentioned in her email to her sister. Could said James be James Sanders? If so, things could get quite interesting on the Normandy in ME3.

Hey, I was just asking a question. I'm not insinuating that she did.....I was just wondering if.

Oh, don't worry about that. E-mail James was just a nod to one of the designers transferring out. Besides, this James Sanders is going to be a squadmate! A major plot point, what are the odds that they retconned it like they did with General Williams.... Oh!
Hey, this is bioswear we're talking about.

Dude they'd have to make a third Normandy. The sheer amount of energy that would be released between Shepard and Ash when they finally get back together would be so powerful that it would shake the Normandy to pieces.

I doubt Bioware will go there, just because most fanboys/fangirls will howl if it is revealed that their favorite romanceable character, 'romanced' someone else while Shepard was dead. Just look at the fallout over it being revealed in Shadowbroker that Miranda slept with someone else while on the Normandy, even though it happens before she was with Shepard.
But realistically, Ashley should have dated someone (if not a couple people) at some point while Shepard was dead. It wasn't like he was gone for 2 or 3 months. He was gone for 2 years.

You have to consider, that those two years contained a period of serious grief, followed by a promotion and important assignments.
I believe she was ready to move on and would have done so, if she had somehow found the right person during that time. But I don't think she did.
Therefore, nothing can stop epic Shepley romance tiems.Oh wait...

Firstly because she thought he was dead and secondly because he was gone for 2 years.

No, I don't think personally. I think she remained loyal to the spirit of shepard, during those two years, who left to join the sky, alongside her father and grandfather.Prince of Kemet wrote...

Ashley then had also the opportunity to tell us she had a relationship in her letter, like Kaidan, it did not.
Yet she is much more ready to talk about these things, to clarify, than Kaidan, who was rather introverted in M1.
Wave a new poem, says that she constantly rethinking our special night without mentioning her new situation would be damn confusing. Given my own experience, I never dare do that personally.
I rather think that Ashley has lived a very hard time and that the injury has been slow to heal. God helped her get up, her family too. She was too busy with her duty within the Alliance, she wanted to be busy to forget, with Anderson who had to do everything to make her forget her pain.
That's how I saw things.

This. Ash is an attractive woman in her late twenties. She totally dated another person or persons in the two years that Shepard was gone. Whether or not those were "serious" is up in the air. Personally I think she's the type to keep things kind of easy going in general -given the nature of her job, which kept her very busy.
Two years is a long time to cling to a ghost. And Ash isn't an overdramatic emo kid. She's rational and practical. I'm not saying she didn't have a hell of a time dealing, but she was able to deal. At some point she probably realized it was stupid to cling to painful memories and moved on- most likely the time that referenced she "hadn't let herself think of those memories in a year."
In my head canon she had a monogomous relationship with another man for a few months there. It simply didn't work out.

I never actually thought about that. Good question.Prince of Kemet wrote...

But I don't think so. In her letter to Shepard, Ashley more or less says that she was alone in the past two years, too busy mourning Shepard and dealing with other difficulties. I don't imagine she actually had the time or the desire to be involved with someone else.

Subject: Hey there.
Shepard-
I'm sorry for what I said back on Horizon. When I lost you two years ago, it tore me up. I prayed for you every day. I read a lot of Tennyson, thinking about you, just like I did when my dad passed. And then you came back, and it was like my prayers were answered. But I'm not who I was then, and neither are you.
I don't know what's true anymore. Part of me can't believe it's really you. I keep going back to that night before Ilos, our night... I haven't let myself think about those memories in over a year.
I wouldn't have expected you to work for Cerberus, but I know why they sent you to Horizon. I saw how many people were lost there, and if anyone can stop the Collectors, you can. I can't go where you're going, but I can wish you luck.
Just stay alive out there... Skipper. I don't know what the future holds, but I can't lose you a second time.
--Ash

If I remember correctly, if you rescued Kaidan, didn't he mention that he was with some girl in his letter?
Guess Ash is the loyal one

There's an interesting link in the Kaidan thread that is relevant to your interests over here. ME3 spoilers, of course.
