It wasn't shameful, it was honorable and heroic what he did. He and his men held out for as long as humanly possible, with no hope of relief or rescue, and in the end he did what he did to save as many lives as he could in the face of annihilating defeat.

The Alliance screwed him over because losing territory to an alien race was politically humiliating.

Every failed campaign needs a scapegoat, unfortunately.  Some probably thought Williams negotiated the surrender with the Turians to his benefit or somesuch, like Benedict Arnold surrendering West Point.  Actually, all of Benedict Arnold's children and grandchildren who had military careers served in the British army, some with a lot of success - maybe Ash would have had better luck enlisting with the Turians?

MacArthur lost the Phillipines, but he was a hero for losing the Phillipines.

They just needed someone to blame after they lost there first engagement against aliens and who would be better than the General who surrenderd a planet to them?

Who knows if TIM is telling us the truth? He is always holding something back when we talk to him... maybe he knows something that would help Shepard to not look like a jerk an Horizon, or something that would be a good reason to quit working for Cerberus and doesn't want Shepard to know... TIM is a sneaky guy.

I'll bite.
We know that Anderson still believes in the reaper threat - he says as much to Shep - but I'm not sure that Hackett would be so quick to fall in-line on that.  He seems more of the skeptic type, the kind who would want to see hard evidence before making a judgment either way.  Given that Ash says she needs to report 'to the Citadel' after Horizon, and given that Anderson says he approved her mission, it seems likely that she's working with Anderson in some way.  My best guess would be that the Alliance created something like the STG after becoming a council race, and Ash is one of the charter members - probably hand-picked by Anderson due to her low rank.  Just IMO, no need to go spreadin' it around.

Good point - special forces would, I guess, equate to the STG in some respects - but we know that Ash is doing something probably outside of typical Alliance purview, and (not sure if we 100% know this in ME2) she isn't special forces.

Don't know if Ash would be special forces, we do know that she was on a special assignment from Anderson. She was checking on the problems with the missing human colonies and checking in on the rumors of shep being alive and working for cerberus also I think. She reported back to the citadel and I looked all over for her. I could find collectors at the center of the galaxy but not Ash on the citadel. What?

Maybe Ash found the one safe (hidden) place on the Citadel and is just waiting/lurking for Shepard to come by to freak the **** out of him.

her combat ablities are really good, better than the average marine.the only reason bioware didnt make her N7 or something speacile is beacuz they just love too neglect her charecter.

Going back to what we were saying earlier, I really think that Anderson's had a very large part in Ash's recent successes. Back when she first told Shepard about her family, it was obvious that no one in uniform has ever treated her the same way again once they found out. Still a pretty fresh scar.

@ashlover I will agree with you about her combat abilities. Not just on missions. Shep is N7 highest ranking special ops in ME1. So a tough guy. He makes comments to Ash about how well she can fight when talking to her about her sisters getting trained in self defense. So Shep respects her ability.
The only concrete thing we know is she is on special assignment. Could be N7 could be something else. I just dont know.

My second favourite character. Ash deserved a proper role in ME 2, and the game would have been much better for it. Hopefully in ME 3 then.
