Maybe the new look is just her being more relaxed. If she's a Spectre she's not subject to the same kinds of militaristic parameters that = bun, uniform and no makeup. She probably has a little more freedom to look the way she wants to.

She did mention that she wouldn't mind taking her sisters to Flux to have a girls night out, which in turn would imply dressing up nice.
I suppose just because she doesn't dress up fancy on the Normandy doesn't mean she wouldn't like to dress up in her spare time. I remember that one fic you did, Badpie, where Ash was in a cocktail dress. Seemed plausable to me at least.
Plus, she'd look great in one. At least if fan art is any indication:

So I suppose it wouldn't be out of character to see her want to make herself up to look nice, just maybe a little strange on a warship.
That said I don't even think her new outfit is all that sexed up, once you've seen Ivy from Soul Calibur 4's outfit everything else starts to look modest by comparison.

I agree.
Though, I don't want her in heels for some reason. Just seems a bit impractical when sexy boots exist.

Oh yeah. Heeled boots would be no good. Girl's gotta keep the kind of boots she can kick a face in with.
V-rex. as for the cocktail dresses - as hot as she would look in them and I'm sure she has worn them on special occasions - I see more of a happy medium for her nights out. Something like the future equivalent of skinny jeans and a slightly dressy tank top.

I have no problems with the suit, as I assume that technology is advanced to the point where it can have awesome kinetic barriers and protect her still. But her boots got to be legit!
I'm also biased as I suck walking in heels and can't imagine anyone running around a battlefield in them.

(EPIC battle, Shepard and crew are running heroically toward the ship)
*wobble* OOF!
Shepard: Ash! Are you hit?
Ash: NO I JUST TWISTED MY DAMN ANKLE OH MY GOD IT HURTS SO BAAAAADDD!!!!

Damn, that is so cliché. A lazy writer's excuse to have the hero carry the damsel in distress off to safety or have her horribly killed off. Personally, I hope for the latter if it actually gets to the point where Ash becomes incompetent.

It's not like she said, "Oh you better make sure Tali doesn't steal anything, you know how Quarians are..." Plus her family was DISGRACED because of aliens. She holds a grudge which is more than understandable. The indirect action of aliens has affected her entire life for the worse. Of course Wrex's outburst is understandable but Ash isn't... that is flawed logic. No one notices how Ash doesn't agree with Cerberus' and Terra Firma's ideas (because they aren't just trying to protect humanity, they are racist). Ash is the opposite of that. She just sees humanity first. I see the US first and would put it's safety before the rest of the world. Does that mean I hate Europe and Asia, no. Not in the slightest. Her views on aliens are naive and not an "acquired taste".
Cynicism is niavete, just another form of it. If she were right in her views, then Garrus and Tali would have sent a bunch of data on the Normandy's systems/the Mako to their respective species' governments--canon shows this clearly to not be the case. Garrus is not an engineer, and the Flotilla would never be a threat to the Alliance--not that they could or would build an expensive stealth ship anyways.
Liara is undyingly loyal to your cause (she goes through hell to recover Shepard's corpse for a mere chance of his/her revival). Wrex, despite one very understandable outburst, always has your back.
Her views WERE naive. She expected all aliens to be entirely loyal to their species (to the point of doing betraying a cause they volunteered for and military competitiveness)...which turned out to be completely false. Racism is naivety, as you're making (likely very innacurate) assumptions about every individual of a race you meet. Period.
We all know you hate Ashley already and there is no persuading "your kind" (Ash haters, a group I am racist against), especially when the argument is from hillbillies like us. You know Ash fans are all guntoating, racist, Southernerns, who aren't very smart right? I like how when people hate Ash for being "racist" they are racist themselves (like that one guy from Hong Kong).
/rant over. I know there is no persuading conspiracy theorists that we landed on the moon no mattter how much evidence. You are the same way.
Dunno how that's possible with proof like this:
Lolwut? I actually really like Ashley's character. Her initial racism is something that she somewhat outgrows (if the player helps; we see some evidence in lines regarding Tali and Liara, for instance). We'll see how it all turns out in ME3. Honestly, I think it adds to her character (and hopefully character development). I totally understand her attitude towards aliens, given her history, and I don't blame her for it. Heck, she even acts very professionally with the non-human members of the squad and the STG.
With the whole Wrex confrontation, I'm really surprised no one noticed Wrex pulling a gun on Shepard, especially considering that a big Krogan blasting the water with a shotgun seconds before tends to attract a lot of attention...and Kaidan knew what was going on. Still, that's well-placed caution, and she deserves points in my book for being on the ball with that one.

And if Ash breaks her ankle, I want Shep to carry her away and have an explosion randomly go off in the background (in slow-mo). Then Shep turns, ****s his head, and says, "Looks like they didn't hold the line" and then drops Ash somewhere safe. Ash says, "Shep... you saved me!" Then Shep says, "No baby *dramatic pause* you saved me."
That would be extremely cliche. Not great at setting up a cliched movie but if you want a cheesy info commercial, I'm your man.

Is anyone else with me on the opinion that her flaw isn't apparent racism, but rather her devotion to the Systems Alliance?
- She joined despite being black listed.
- She distrust Garrus and Wrex because they aren't Alliance.
- She doesn't have a problem with Tali, and Udina specifically sent her with you.
- She was willing to sacrifice herself, to be a martyr. Partially for the sake of the mission. Obviously also to redeem her family name.
- She rejects Shepard because (s)he was with Cerberus. Which has a reputation of being xenophobic extremists. However, also part of her reason is because she is Alliance. It's in her blood.
Some of these might seem justified, and even admirable. But to me it also makes her look somewhat obsessed (maybe not the right word, can't think of it right now) with the Sistems Alliance.
Thoughts?

She was there fighting beside Shep every time they faced off with Cerberus. Despite the fact they claim to do everything in the best interest of humanity they mutilate and murder because they can. The Alliance has labelled Cerberus a terrorist organization.
I'm sure she distrusts Tali as much as any alien, she out and out says she distrusts Udina.
I have always felt her anger towards aliens is misplaced she should be mad at the Aliance for black listing her family after her grandfather was forced to surrender to save the lives of his men and, I would guess, some civilians.
