I brought Xbox world (UK) the weekend as it had an interview and "exclusive" on Mass Effect 3. Underneath the widely distributed picture of Ash was the caption "Ashley williams, rascist but sexy"Posted Image I was slightly dissapointed to say the least. They also spelt Wrex "Rex" once.

Oh lord, seriously?<_<

Jesus Christ, the fact that idiocy can actually be published makes me very worried. I worry that these articles and those kinds of captions might suggest that the whole 'Ashley is da racist' is actually becoming publicly acknowledged as 'fact' by the mainstream gaming media.
And let me tell you, that would suck.
I've said many times now that I worry about Ashley being flanderized and I worry that her minor distrust of aliens will become the ONLY DEFINING ASPECT OF HER CHARACTER as a result of it being the only thing people ever mention about her.
To be fair, that was probably just a joke and if the fact that they called Kaidan 'fat' and spelt 'Wrex' as 'Rex' might just mean that the author was taking the ******, aiming for the lowest common demoninator of intellect in the Mass Effect community, was ill informed or some combination of all three.

Yup seriously. You are right about the article being squarely aimed at the hmm "less interllectual" Mass effect fan, I am sure when I re-read the article I will find more errors. As for calling Kaidan fat the writer said some thing like he looked at least 150lbs and that his weight had been fixed for 3.

Honestly anyone thinking of buying it really shouldnt bother.

as an outside observer, to me, Ashley's burning xenophobia IS the only defining aspect of her character.

Well as a casual observer of the Ashley character, to me, thats what it seems like. Just my 2cents. Might be what the general view is for non-hardcore ashley fans.
Something to think about.

Who is this xenophobic Ashley?? Never met her.

The Ashley I know loves poetry, believes in God and a greater force out there, has a steadfastness to her family and the Alliance, ambition at joining the Alliance despite her family being blacklisted, and plenty of wit to share.

Sorry you missed meeting her somehow in your playthrough.

Guess you forgot about her love of poetry, belief in God and a greater force out there, her steadfastness to her family and the Alliance, her ambition at joining despite her family being blacklisted, and her wit?

Who is this xenophobic character? Never met him/her.

im just trying to say, unless u are one of ashleys hardcore fans, her xenophobia is ALL you see. its definitely a hurdle for the writers to overcome.

You don't need to be hardcore, you just need to form an opinion of your own based on your own experiences, rather than have one dictated to you based upon the collective consciousness of the BSN hivemind.

Hardcore? Huh. Anyone here dress up as her at home and cover your walls with posters of her? No?

Pretty sure you just need to get past your own damn prejudices first.

My first impression of Ashley was that she was a closet alien hatemonger. From your reaction I can guess that  not many people forgot/forgave that first impression.

The temptation not to think is certainly strong. Ashley requires thought.

On the other hand, first impressions can strongly sway a person's opinion.

My first impressiopn of Miranda was very unfavorable, on top of a solid conviction built up over the course of the game's development that I would probably not like her.

She is now one of my favorite characters.

I hope Ash will be one of the romances Femshep can enter in ME3. I really wanted to romance her in 1 and change her views.

Maybe now I finally can ^.^ or see an awesome Ash vs Liara showdown.

I have a F!Shep that is pretty pro-aliens. It would be really interesting to see how it would turn out. Now I must say that I don't know Ashley very well, she hasn't survived Virmire a single time. But if she's available for F!Shep I'll make a Shep just for her <3 =)

Casey's new tweet:

Some game sites saying "previously straight chars now available for both m&f chars" not necessarily true. Will have some new LI's in #ME3

Doesn't mean some charcter's won't be bi, just means that not EVERYONE will be Bi.

Meh... I'm not really into that whole "turn characters suddenly bi" concept and I'm not really into the DA2 "make everyone bi!" concept. If they would introduce new LI and make them bi I'm fine. But why should Ashley or Kaidan suddenly be bi? They never showed any interest in a Shepard of the same gender.
Of course they could go the "I was into you the whole time but didn't know how to show you" way they did with Tali. Even better add a Liara line that says "I knew all along but didn't said anything. Where would be the fun in that?" and I totally make a Jim Carrey trollface in front of my desktop.

You know, now that I think about it, I actually have a Shepard that looks very much like her.
