I gotta say, looking at that picture, I'd love that on a shirt. Even if I had to explain what the picture was to all my non gaming friends. Still, it'd be worth it.

If Ashley met Grunt, what do you reckon her opinion of him would be?

In my opinion, I think Ash and Grunt would get along nicely. She would admire his loyalty to Shepard. He would be amused by her sense of humor. They are both soldiers. As Grunt would say "Warriors like us?, straight to the face."

I will, however, say that Ashley's romance felt the most natural. Not because she's a human and Tali and Liara are aliens.  But Ashely's romance progressed at a more natural rate. For me (and I've done Tali and Liara's romance too), Liara essentially said after one conversation, "I feel we have a special connection, Shepard." With Ashley, you have to flirt and get to know her, and there's a connection but it's not explicitly stated until Ilos.

Liara's situation is a little bit different than Ashley however, in that she did the Asari mind meld with Shepard. She touched his mind, and it is really after that that she becomes infatuated with him. Usually relationships develop slowly because it takes time for two people to really get to know each other, but by melding her mind with Shepard's, Liara in a sense pushed the fast forward button. Her mind joined with Shepard's, and while it isn't quite the same thing as mind reading, no doubt she came away from it with an idea of who he was as a person.

Or at least that is my theory. But I think it is a plausible one. Consider that Shiala also did the mind meld with Shepard, and if you didn't kill her, she returns in ME2 and voices a desire to hook up with Shepard. Shep did the mind meld with 2 Asari, not including the Consort, and both came away from it wanting him.

I agree. I almost always romanced Tali but it always, always felt rushed. You can try and explain it away with excuses but at the end of the day, it's all of two conversations after her loyalty mission and I tend to have a problem with that.

Same with Liara. I can understand why that would be (you can pick up Liara at any point in the game so her romance dialog has to be short in order for the player to have access to it whenever they do pick her up) but really, from a non-metagaming perspective, she comes on really strong.

I notice that IRL, I tend to gravitate towards other oldest children, making friends with them. If we believe what people say about birth order affecting personality, it might make sense to hypothesize that a lot of us are oldest/onlies. Care to compile data? I'll start.

That is a pretty interesting idea and very plausible.
I also considered that she was not "human" and therefore could not be expected to follow a "human" path. God those asari can move quick when they want to. That and I always considered that the events unfold over months not days, so there are interactions on the ship in between the conversations.  

And I never thought that there was any melding with the Consort. That type of intimacy is done with those that they have a real connnection to. Maybe that is what the General wanted from the Consort and she said "Uh, nope. You are a client." 

Now that Ash is back on the Normandy, I wonder how Bioware is going to handle the ME2 moments: Will Shepard & Ash work through the Horizon misunderstanding or will it be brushed under the table? Will that talk lead into the "have you been faithful" and if so, can you still reunite if you did stray? Will Bioware take the time to have a different outcome (forgive/deal breaker) based on who Shepard romanced?

you should complete her anyway! Femshep's an amazing experience and should be made even better with Ashley.

If you go to youtube and search "femshep Ashley" a video will comeup of the romance scene. I also know someone who thinks theres soms sexual tension in the "dismissed, chief" line as stated above.
