Because Ashley and Kaidan happen to be human characters who aren't Shepard. That's what it boils down to, only Shepard is allowed to be a special human, and Ash and Kaidan couldn't have possibly done anything impressive during the two years Shep was dead.

IMO,  It makes sense for Ash to be a Spectre only if the council is human dominated. If you saved the council at the end of ME1, even with a human representative(Anderson), it would be harder to convince the other races to appoint her as the second human Spectre. If they do, then Bioware needs to explain it satisfactorily in line with how story is written thus far.

I personally tend to pick the lower ones. Because I feel
Shepard does a better job at defending his or her relationship with
Cerberus and because Shepard actually then points out the VS and the

And this is not some attempt to bash the VS. I just feel that taking the lower responses make more sense from an in-game standpoint.

I tend to choose the middle dialogue, to me everything gets putout on the table:
Cerberus revived me after the ship was attacked
They're fighting the colletors to protect our terminus colonies
The Allaince has done nothing and refuses to believe in the reaper threat but Cerberus knows the truth

I may pick a rnegade or paragon option to spice it up but most times I just stay neutral

Human dominated and Anderson lead, I don't think Udina would be very likely to put Ash who was a strong supporter of Shep and it would be harder to keep her quiet about the Reapers.

Horizon, the very mention of it pisses me off. That is my least favorite moment in gaming, in front of the Squill cave from SWG, Tsavo Highway on Legendary, the realization that MW2 sucked ass, and the metros in Fallout 3.

There's an optional boxing match in Fallout 2 where that can happen to your character if the match lasts enough rounds.

If it happens, you lose a point of CH but you get to carry the ear around in your inventory for the rest of the game.

Pointless and off topic, I know, but your comment just made me think of that and smile. 

ON TOPIC: I've gotten used to Ash as Spectre, but I still think it seems odd.  She just doesn't seem experienced enough, and it seems like her outspokeness would be an issue with any Council, especially the original one.

indeed, one of her spectre missions was to take down android mike. the allaince goofed up and she had to go in and fight it hand to hand. it fought dirty.

I don't think Ash would let a Mike Tyson robot bite off her ear.That thing would be destroyed in a matter of seconds.

Will it was a very advanced combatant, mastery in several styles of martial arts. Medi-gel is a hell of a healer.
