1.) A single response isn't going to sell a product. Just because you can type in a beautiful manner doesn't mean its going to have a grand outcome.

2.) I understand how to be tactical; and I understand that randomly calling something crap isn't going to get much positive attention. However when someone has a reasonable argument they should at least have a reasonable response; unless of course you don't truely believe in being a reasonable person and only believe in "fighting for what you believe in" which is another Religious / Fan-Boyisim ideal apparently...

3.) Judging from the negative responses I would imagine no one here has a reasonable "objection" to my comments about Ashley. Most of you are either trolling / flaming or the only one who did respond can't come up with a reason to justify Ashleys ignorant and childish behaviour; meaning that in general this is an extremely one sided thing here.

I've stated before that I liked Ashley in ME1. I even said I chose her majority of the time because she seemed interesting. I thought over the course of the series she would mature into a less racist / radical person and become more of a hard fought woman like Ripley from Alien (which is a damn good lead Female role). Hell even a Sarah Connor from T1 and 2 would have been welcome; but instead she turned back the maturity and kicked up the whole ""YOU BETRAYED MEE!"" "But...I've been dead?.." ""**** YOU I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!!"" "Right.."

Now then; I'm done trying to see something benifical about your little group and Ashley.. Apparently theres no light at the end of this tunnel. Theres a saying about pets; their nature reflects that of the owner..I say that the fan-base of Ashley kind of reflects upon what Ashley really is..She didn't care about Shepard or she would have believed him more than she did; and you guys don't care about gaining the support of a loyal Mass Effect player who generally and genuinely wants to have a new view on the game and its characters.

I bid you good day, good night, and have a fun one kids.

I honestly don't know how you get by in society nowadays by insulting everything you don't agree with. I swear, I had a better way of dealing with that sorta thing when I was in 3rd grade. You come in an Ash thread demanding we prove to you that she is "worthy" of your Shep. What. The. ****. I've got news for you kid, I wouldn't have believed Shepard too if he said he died and came back. That literally doesn't make any sense (cough like the rest of ME2 cough). And what you showed Shep saying isn't even close. He is like "It's been a while Ash, how've you been?" I woulda shot him if I were Ash.

And your right about us, we are all gun-toting hillbilly racists that "do'n like us non'em al'in folk up in these parts. You got a purty mouth son... sqeal like a pig!" I honestly don't give a SQUIRT OF ****** if you enjoy our group or not. To me you're between the white stuff that accumulates on the edge of your mouth when your thirsty and the "water" on the floor of the men's bathroom. And as for the light at the end of the tunnel, too late the tunnel collapsed.

Your religion comments as well, completely uncalled for. Just furthering my belief that you came in here just trying to troll. I realize with great reluctance that you probably won't read this as your last sentence suggests but oh well. Getting that weight off my shoulders. /rant.Posted Image

Snip
To begin with let me just say this:
"What the hell did you think was going to happen when you went onto our thread and directly insulted our favorite character?"
1.) A single response isn't going to sell a product. Just because you can type in a beautiful manner doesn't mean its going to have a grand outcome.
Exactly, which is why entering a thread with a single line about how Ashley's a 'racist ****' probably wasn't the greatest conversation starter.
2.) I understand how to be tactical; and I understand that randomly calling something crap isn't going to get much positive attention.
Then why did you do it?
However when someone has a reasonable argument they should at least have a reasonable response;
If someone asks a reasonable question or presents a reasonable argument, they'll get a reasonable response. If they go in insulting and swearing, they get much of the same.
unless of course you don't truely believe in being a reasonable person and only believe in "fighting for what you believe in" which is another Religious / Fan-Boyisim ideal apparently...
Dude, quit it with the bigot remarks about religion. I believe in being a reasonable person, but I don't bother to waste my time with someone who can't be the same.
3.) Judging from the negative responses I would imagine no one here has a reasonable "objection" to my comments about Ashley.
Oh, believe me, I do.
However those 'objections' I have said in millions of walls of text in millions of threads millions of times. To put it down to bullet points:

- Ashley isn't racist

- Ashley isn't a heartless b*tch

- Ashley does care about Shepard, her response on Horizon doesn't erase that

- Ashley isn't nearly as bad as people say she is.

The reason I don't feel like saying it here? Because this is the ONE place on this entire f*cking site where I shouldn't have to. All we want is to hang out, discuss Ashley, and talk among friends and raise conversation. That's it, here is a place for fans of Ashley.
You come in yelling abuse and insults and ****** us all off and then act surprised that our only response to you is contempt.
Most of you are either trolling / flaming
Flaming, maybe.

Trolling? No, that's all you.

Trolling is the act of saying something shocking and offensive to people in order to get lots of people replying at you. All we are doing is retaliating to the trolling.
or the only one who did respond can't come up with a reason to justify Ashleys ignorant and childish behaviour; meaning that in general this is an extremely one sided thing here.
Perhaps to them it wasn't ignorant or childish behavior? To see someone you loved return from the grave, now working for a terrorist organization that is the arch enemy of the army you serve and have to try to come to terms with your loyalty and your emotions and recover from the trauma all like that within five minutes?
Not everyone can do that.

But of course maybe we just decided it's not worth trying to communicate with someone who goes onto a character thread with intent to bash the character of the thread, and then acts surprised when people get mad like he's somehow innocent.
I've stated before that I liked Ashley in ME1. I even said I chose her majority of the time because she seemed interesting. I thought over the course of the series she would mature into a less racist /radical
Was never racist or radical.
Hey, how's this for a fun game? Instead of accusing us of lashing out with baseless arguments, how about you explain to us in exactly what way Ashley is racist.
Responding to those arguments is so much fun.
person and become more of a hard fought woman like Ripley from Alien (which is a damn good lead Female role).
See my above post about this.
Now then; I'm done trying to see something benifical about your little group and Ashley.. Apparently theres no light at the end of this tunnel.
Okay, here's another trick you can try.

Go to the Jack thread and tell them that she's a disease carrying **** who looks ugly and deserves to be beaten up.

Go to the Tali thread and tell them that they are idolizing a shrieking violet sex doll designed to appeal to a creepy demographic of adolecent males.

Go to Miranda's thread and call her an empty **** with an arse full of cheesecake.

Go to the Garrus thread and tell them that he's an underrwritten uninteresting block of a character, made only to appeal to people who like listening to characters worship them.

In fact, just go to every single thread for every character and open up with a line that is essentially:
"Wow X character sucks, man it sucks. How the hell can you people like such a sucky character? Please tell me?"

Then do a mental list of how often you get backlash. Because that's essentially what you did here. Ashley fans, Garrus fans, Tali fans, Jack fans, Thane fans, Kaidan fans... whatever, people don't like having stuff they like insulted.
Theres a saying about pets; their nature reflects that of the owner..I say that the fan-base of Ashley kind of reflects upon what Ashley really is.
Again, it would apply to every other character thread ever if you lashed out like that. Screw you.
Incidently I'm an overwieght extremely left wing Australian male who's just started a vegetarian diet, I'm almost the chemical opposite of Ashley in every way.
She didn't care about Shepard or she would have believed him more than she did;
That's just stupid. The fact that she grieved for two years is evidence that she cared, she was depressed after he died, like, really depressed. Two years of grief and struggling to move on indicates that she cared quite a great deal.
Just because she has her own opinions and won't bend over backwards and become a doormat to whatever Shepard says or demands, doesn't mean she doesn't care. The fact that she's on Horizon on the off chance that he might have been alive, or the fact that she's been trying to find evidence to link the Collectors to the Reapers to present to the Council is indication enough of that.
and you guys don't care about gaining the support of a loyal Mass Effect player who generally and genuinely wants to have a new view on the game and its characters.
Maybe we don't want to gain the support of someone who enters a thread saying that Ashley is a racist little b*tch and then adds all these other reasons why other characters are better while demanding we explain why she's so great.
Dude, there are better ways to present yourself. That's not a great way to start and it only got worse from there. After getting the reply from Balsaim Baige you went right back to the 'racist loudmouth' comments and again complaining about Horizon. You then took it one step forward by making an anti-religious comment in one of your replies to Shadow, which also doesn't help you earn friends.

Basically you opened the conversation with an inflammatory comment, continued the inflammatory comments, dropped a nice offensive remark about religion, continued to insult people for a little longer and then started arguing that WE were the ones who were making it hard to defend our cases.

Maybe we decided that we didn't want to try to explain it to you, or maybe we decided that it wasn't worth the effort given that people who argue that Ashley is racist will continue to do so no matter how many points you present.
I bid you good day, good night, and have a fun one kids
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

I think this is the only answer we can give someone like LeVaughnX:

Since you brought the aspect of religion up one should say that it's not for us to tell you why we like Ashley. It's for you to find out why you may not. No one will give you a satisfactory answer other than yourself.

What a caveman attittude! Hit 'em over the head and then get angry, because they don't wanna play along with your demands! Though you seem to have eaten a few textbooks about debating and argumention, your practical application is somewhat lacking. Don't try so hard to be smart and people might actually start to take you seriously. And I always find it interesting how people playing the maturity card mostly shimmer in an aura of immaturity themselves.
V-rex basically covered the reason part of this argument, so let me just add this:
No one needs to justify why they love someone/something. For the most part Fandom is irrational; reason can be part of it, yes, but in no way is it a necessity.

"She didn't care about Shepard or she would have believed him more than she did"

I like to turn that around.
Your Shepard didn't care about Ashley or he (you probably don't play FemShep) would have understood Ashley's dilemma and confusion on Horizon.

If you demand that someone should try to understand you, you should do the same!

i was gonna make a comment on how i was looking forward to seeing how ashley is handled in ME3 but is it really a stupid "ashley is racist" debate again? ugh.

i wonder if people who claim she's racist have ever actually met a real racist lol

you know what? screw it! i will contribute positively to the thread!

i really like ashley as a character, i always romance her in ME1. she's actually extremely well written, more-so than most of the rest of the ME1 crew.

my favorite part about her, is that she's a super badass tough as nails space marine, yet she's still feminine and sensitive and it doesnt feel weird either. they managed to make her feel like a real person. make her super tough and badass while avoiding all the gross over serious trying to hard female "badasses" in media today.

seriously, if i never see another over-serious, over compensating for being a female, one dimensional female "badass" in a movie or game again, it'll be too soon.

Too bad I missed the party last night.

I'm taking a break from Mass Effect atm, but I plan to play through the series again around Christmas time to prepare myself for the third game. Ash is still my favorite female romance so she still will be my canon LI.

Fixed to be more accurate.  :P  Actually I've been avoiding the boards because I can't deal with all the negative attention Ash gets.  When she wasn't in ME2 much most people just didn't talk about her.  Now that she's front and center the hate is flaring up again as well as the "man she looks so hot now I'm sorry I dumped her ass" threads.  Ugh.

And with this in mind, I'd like to post two links to some stuff I wrote featuring Ashley Williams. I played as a FemShep, but the more I revisted the Horizon scene with Ashley, the more it didn't seem right considering how she was good friends with Shepard in ME1.  There had to be more to it than was shown...

Can someone with better understanding of military ranks help me understand exactly how high Ashley is ranked? I'm not especially familiar with the role of NCOs, and I don't think that "Gunnery Chief" or "Operations Chief" are ranks that exist today to the rest of my knowledge but I get the impression that she is supposed to have a role of authority of some kind? She says Kaidan is a superior officer, but is her line of potential promotions the same as his?

The Alliance Military rank structure was entirely made up. It doesn't directly correlate to any modern military I know of.

I lurk there quite a bit.   And I checked out Courtenay Taylor's interview.  I really like her.  I follow her on twitter too and she's really cool about responding back.  Alas, my Shepard is Ash all the way.  Had I the motivation to roll another guy Shep (which I don't) and make him single, Jack would have his heart.

@ Jedi.  Here is the Alliance Miltary ranking system:

In ascending order of responsibility, the ranks of the Alliance are:

V-rex, that was a great post. You always right in the biggest walls of text I've ever seen (from Bungie or Bioware forums) but it is so worth it. Your extremely good at constructing an argument without just flaming the recipient (a la me) while still making them feel retarded just because they have been proven wrong. I'm 90% sure you could convince Shepard to join the Reapers.
