It's funny... It still takes me forever to make that final decision on Virmire. On my way to save Ash/Kaiden (depending on who I had stay with the bomb) that cut scene happens and I sit there like an idiot for what feels like forever, internally arguing with myself over who to save and why. It's not even logical. I choose Ash every time! Except once. That was a hard once.

(Edited for top of page Ash)
Ashley's eyes look kinda blue in this picture.  How... exotic!  :P

The coin toss has left me with about a 60/40 in favor of Ash. I just can't see any of my Shep's picking based on the individual so I keep it based on mission. Weird, I know.
I am worried that ME3 will have more of those and I might end up losing Liara, Wrex and Maleshep's Ash at some point. That would really suck!

Hey, to each their own.  :)  As far as possibly having to face Virmire like decisions in ME3...  If losing Ashley is a possiblity that would be ok as long as it's avoidable.  It could be epic.  I really don't wanna spend the whole time waiting and waiting for the moment I "get her back" or whatever the scenario may be.  That was unbearable in ME2.  *cringes at thought of Horizon scene*

I love to hate Virmire, hate to love it. =/

It's one of those gaming moments that makes me second-guess my planned decision on who to save every time. Even if I have it planned out, I always think, "maybe......"

I save Ash all the time. Though I've only played through Mass Effect 1 three times. Yet to save Kaidan, I should do that sometime....

I see people rationalize saving Kaidan all the time because he's an officer, and Ashley's a "grunt". Kaidan's also a biotic which is why he's gotten so far up the ranks by ME2 to outrank Shepard while Ashley gets promoted one rank. I rationalize that Ashley has more to live for so she can change the Alliances perception of her family after what General Williams did with TIM (which is the real reason for the black list, not surrendering Shanxi)

Which, in my opinion, only shows how well executed and written it is.

Ashley's biggest asset is her heart, everthing she does, she does with passion. She says what is on her mind without fear of making a fool of herself in the process. To me that is worth more than being an officer or a biotic.
I love Kaidan, too, (if there would be the chance to choose the one who can't be saved from all ME1 squadmates, Garrus would draw the short straw in my game,)
but though he is a very capable officer, I always have the impression, that he is holding back a little.
In my very first playthrough they quickly became my favourite squad and so Virmire was really a WTF? moment for me.
I saved Ashley eight times and Kaidan five times, so far and I am really looking forward to have them at my side again.

I saved Kaidan once. Since I always play as a ManShep I was dissapointed to see that there really was no further dialogue with him after Virmire.

I always play ManShep. Guess Ashley will always survive in all my future playthroughs. Posted Image
I don't think I could kill Ash anyway. Posted Image

I've done PTs where I save Kaidan and Mshep and Ashley as femshep. I really hate thatI ahve to choose them, but I guess that would make Horizon worse with both of them yelling at you.....

Luckily the way I RP my Sheps ends with me saving Ashley 99% of the time.  I always send Ashley off with the salarians since they 1) Need some brawn to back up those brains and 2) While Ash IS NOT a racist she does need to learn how to play well with others a bit more.  Because of this Kaidan always ends up staying to protect the nuke while my Shepards are off rescuing Ashley and the salarians.  The needs of the many... Which helps justify the whole thing to m/sheps who romanced her and my f/shep who have a crush on her (fingers crossed for a ME3 romance!)

I send her with the Salarians too. when Kirahee goes down (if you don't sabotage the geth stuff) Ashley takes charge and gets the salarians to the AA tower and leads incredibly well from the stuff you hear over the comms. It makes even my most renegade of shepard's smile the entire time, before the decision that is.Posted Image

Apparently General Williams hated turians and wanted to keep fighting after the First Contact War ended so he sent TIM to spy on saren and such and continued to fight Turians which is why he was "brought back to earth in Irons"

Aw man, I thought he really had been demoted for doing the right thing in the end, which was the type of choice that Shepard would have trouble making.  I kinda feel bad for Ashley and I wonder if she knows about that part of the story...

He wasn't even "brought back to earth in irons." Apparently, he just up and quit to spite the Alliance for giving in to aliens.

Yeah Grandpa Williams was basically a grade A jerk and everything people have falsely accused Ash of being. Too bad I found the idea of him being a disgraced general who did the right but unpopular thing to be interesting. Not to mention I was looking forward to helping Ashley restore his and the families good name. Guess Ash will just have to be the sole one to carry it on her capable shoulders.

Wait, has some perverse new abomination risen from Mass Effect Evolution that I don't know about?
