One factor that I really liked about Ash was that despite being a women in a video game, she preferred practicality over looking gorgeous. Her feauters were still in good shape, she just hasn't... dressed like a secretary, but like a soldier.
A rather odd change in character, but as long as she doesn't wear high-heels in battle, we're ok.

I'm still curious over whether he hair is down just for the trial or if she's getting the Miranda treatment.

Is there a sign someone stating there can only be one woman in the galaxy with nice hair?

I must have missed it.

It's about being a soldier, that is true for Ash. Miranda is an in-between secretary/manager/shooter, so that's a different case.
But it's rather strange for a soldier to wear hair that covers her eyesight.
That was the point, I guess.

edit: Hm, since when does editing opens a new post instead?
That must be some vile Reaper machinery. :)

Huzzah for the return of Ash!! I'm glad to see that despite the alterations to her appearance she still seems perfectly capable of kicking ass. That's what's really important, isn't it? If it turns out that she doesn't wear much in the way of practical armor during ME3, I'll just tell myself that it's cool, she doesn't need protection from bullets... bullets need protection from Ash.

I'm a woman and I support Ash's new look. Don't hate. She's sexy. Always was. Woman could wear a potato sack and still be ridiculously hot. Let's be honest. The tight clothes aren't making that much of a difference in her hot factor.

I'm a woman and I absolutely detest her new look. However, I'm willing to give BioWare the benefit of doubt for now. I don't want to wait for a repeat performance of having to download an appearance pack to take along certain squadmates. Yes, I'm looking at you, Miranda.

I'm kind of where Chig is right now...not especially pleased, BUT, I will give them a chance.

For the record, I love her hair, and my Shepard is totally jealous, and I am not offended by her uniform at all...I just don't want to be *forced* to run around with Ashley in combat situations where she is wearing impractical armor.  I really, really want my squad to be completely armored in dangerous environments.  I think it's completely possible to make "sexy" armor that is also practical.

I'm also not crazy about the fact that Kaidan, the sentinel, has heavier armor than Ashley, the soldier.  If I were paranoid, I would say Bioware is sending a message about the roles of men and women in their games...

*shrug*

It's a game....it'd be a little boring if her hair is a bun ALL the time we see her...she looks beautiful now. She can still be her badass self and look good too.

Props to you Bioware.

That's not the point, though. She is, first and foremost, a soldier and she should dress accordingly. If I wanted to see her strut around like she's on a catwalk then I'd rather have that on the Normandy, far away and safe from bullets, grenades and anything else that a flimsy suit and thigh-high boots couldn't properly protect from.

Well, I think we have to remember the Reaper attack did happen pretty quickly, even Ash might not have had time to change.

Joker: We're coming in to get you Shepard!

Ash: Just a minute, need to put on my armor!

But alliance dude next to her has time to change? (Vega) I mean...it's not like he was likely to be standing around in armor beforehand either.

Exactly. I'm hoping for but I don't believe there'll be a major outfit change.

THIS. I'm sure she was just wearing that because she was on the normandy and not in combat, Hell SHEPARD was wearing some new fatigues and fighitng husks. Plus I noticed her shoulders are like Mordin's armor/labcoat and have armor. But yeah she could wear a trashbag or patato sack and She'd still be hotter than the galactic core.Posted Image And she's a LIEUTENANT I've gotta update her part on G&P for that.Posted Image

Yeah... I'm not too fond of the new, revamped "Mirash" either, to be honest... Just puts me off as a female gamer. I'm having a hard time reconciling her ME1 badAshery with the glorified catsuit and Pink Power Ranger skirt. But, as long as no personality changes are made or gratuitous butt shots appear in game, I guess I'll be okay. Still, not too enthused about the new look, though.

e: Just read through some of the earlier posts, and I do agree with Badpie's point about Ash always being sexy.  However, to me, it was more of a strong and subtle type of "sexy" - not nearly as in-your-face as what's being shown in the trailers.  I feel like the revamp is pandering or a male fanbase, and I liked that she was understated and strong in ME1.  This ... does not appear to be understated to me, as of yet.  Personally, I feel that the new looks screams of trying to make her appeal more to male gamers, and I worry about what it means for her in-game personality.  Hope the snark, strength, and wit are still there.

I see your points Rose, but since I've been doing runs to perfect my Shepard's for this game, I noticed that the Light armor in Me1 was no moer than a catsuit with armor placed on certain spots. That and the knowledge of bioware publicly saying that you can customize your squds looks means that that might jsut be herdefault or low leveled appearance. Maybe you cna buy her or unlock new armor for her as she gets stronger in the leveling system like in ME1 with her heavy armor with some points in her armor power slot. Lets we not forget Shepard was on that mission in alliance fatigues (and had no shield because of it) so appearances seem to change throughout the game. No worries.Posted Image

I'm thinking Ashley's new..umm...armor? outfit? (I don't know what to call it yet) will be optional come combat time. Maybe that's just wishful thinking, but I'd really love to see her in her Phoenix armor again. A lot...

She's an officer and a Spectre now. It was time to ditch the phoenix armor. She looks really good imo, some of you are forgetting what miranda actually looked like

As far as the hair goes spectres probably don't care how you keep your hair, so she's making up for lost time. Really though I like the hair too. It's pretty unique. I think she's got most of it pulled to one side of her head. They've got 9 months to work on the game though. I wouldn't be suprised if her hair changed again.

True, although I think comparing her catsuit to ME1's light armour falls flat when we consider that Ashley as a soldier got to wear heavy armour in ME1 and also wore her signature heavy Phoenix armour during her Horizon cameo in ME2.

Outfit changes happen for Shepard, yes, but they if BioWare continues ME2's trend then they won't happen for squadmates (except for a very slight change or recolouring, i.e. Jack's vest outfit). I still hope you're right though, AD.

Additionally, it's not only her armour that seems off to me. It's a combination of impractical armour (zipper, thigh-high boots with heels) and her impractical hair cut.

I do think Ashley looks stunning. I'm not a huge fan of the thigh high boots and heels. I don't mind the hair really, but for practicality reasons I can sympathize to your objections Chignon.

I don't know what room Ash will be staying in on the Normandy, but I know for a fact that I'll be going there all the time.

I think we can all agree/admit you'll be doing the same.

Ash: Shepard I know we're a couple again, but don't you have your own room?

Shepard: Nope :)
