As some have already said, I choose to remain "cautiously optimistic." But to comment on what I have seen from the captures and the trailers:

1. I think you have to expect some redesign in the physical characteristics of Ashley. To me, her face is the same model with different hairstyle and Bioware has fulfilled a promise to improve hair appearance. "Look Ma, no split ends!" Kaiden and Ashley have gotten some phsyical redesign to broaden appeal across the fanbase. I think this is as much an attempt by Bioware to make these characters more likeable to everyone as much as others think it is pandering to hyper-pubescent teens.

2. Ash's Hair - Don't have a problem with it. I don't think it covers her eyes, I think it appears to cover her eyes when we are viewing her at a specific angle. Other angles show she can clearly see out of both. Do I think she should wear it like that in battle? No. Not appropriate. Yet how many soldiers go to battle without a helmet covering their head? If you clammer for realism, don't opt to keep the helmets off your soldiers.

3. Ash's Clothing - I admit that I expected a change but this was a little more than I bargained for. I can do without the thigh high boots - heels or no heels. Trouble is, we don't have a great deal of context here. Will she be able to wear armor? I'm going to say she probably will. Shepherd is not wearing heavy armor on earth, yet he is on the salarian homeworld. Maybe the same will hold for Ashley. Besides, she said she was a hellcat on and off the battlefield. Maybe we are seeing a side of her character only hinted at previously. "Beats the hell out of a tin foil mini-skirt doesn't it skipper?" "Nice stern and struts Ash" "Get that out of a training manual skipper?

4. Ash's Character - This will tell the tale. Will she still be the same character we all grew to like or were immediatley captivated by? This will make it or break it for me and none of the above. I think we can expect some maturation and slight change. We all do that over time. But if her personality does not retain those fundamental traits that made her such a well written character in ME1, I will be sorely disappointed.

Overall, I'm ecstatic that Ash is back. Yes, I wanted MY Ash back, just like you, and you, and you, and you. But all disputing, discussion, and nitpicking aside, is that not what we wanted all along?

Edited for top of page Ash:

Did anyone notice that with the Collector's edition we are getting alternate appearances for a few characters including Ashley?

I'm pretty confident that it might be a throwback to her classic Phoenix armor which might erase some of the concerns you guys are having about her new armor/catsuit/rubbersuit/strippersuit.

At least for those of you who get the CE.... *whistles*

As a fan of the Phoenix armor, I would really stoked to get some kind of updated optional look for that in ME3.  After all, nothing screams "YES! ASH!" more than her pink armor.... except maybe Shepard.  *snicker*  I made a naughty joke.

So that's where the "Bad" in Badpie comes from. Posted Image

Getting an AA pack that put her in her traditional armor would be like having our cake and eating it too!  And Bioware is figuring out ways to make more money off of our desires. Posted Image   Personally I think they should make a personalized AA pack for each character.  Gives us more options for the character we like and more money for them.  Win-Win.

Well... as soon as we get some screens of Liara or Vega we can at least say/compare how different the AA packs will make their look. If it's just a repaint or something completly different.

Don't know what Vega is wearing normally but his AA armor looks pretty awesome. Pretty massive what he is carrying around there B) Just not digging his mohawk

Another idea I just got from reading in the Miranda thread:

Could it be that, after Shepard essentially got arrested, the Alliance handed the ship over to Ash/the VS because they were promoted to Spectre and needed an own ship?

If Ash wouldn't just save Shep & Andersons ass from earth but would be the captain of the Normandy while doing so would make her even hotter, if you ask me.
Our knightess in shining pink armor :lol:

We have gotten a look for Liara's alternate look. It's an Asari Justicar outfit that looks almost the same as Samara's.

So if they are doing throwback outfits I don't know what would fit better for Ashley than her Phoenix armor :P

Not re-skins, then. There is still a small vestige of hope left in me that there will still be customisable armour in ME3. Need customisation!!

I have a really dumb question, bear with me. Do you think Ash is still a Soldier in ME3? I ask because I'm wondering how they'll handle squad balance. We've always had someone who could function as a tank and someone who handled biotics and tech on the starting squad. Vega is described as a tank in one of the articles, so I'm wondering.

Personally, I'm hoping she'll get infiltrator skills. Or at least a rocket launcher. A good one, too. Not one of those used by mercs that push you sligthly backwards.

She'll be a soldier. Assault rifle and sniper. Maybe shotgun. Posted Image

If they change her class on top of everything else they've already changed, I'm going to be disappointed.

Sorry for posting so many times, but I can't seem to edit my posts or quote. Anyone else having this problem?

Anyways, picture of Vega is wrong. Here's the correct one.

She'll be soldier. Maybe she picked up some extra tricks, but Ash is a soldier. I woudn't want it any other way.

And to be honest the ME2 squad wasn't very balanced either. 90% of them were biotics.

You know, I say this as someone who plays a FemShep with long hair, but if they don't have an option to pull Ashley's hair out of her face for combat, I'm going to be rather upset...

So he is going from "regular alliance marine" to "Gears of War" with his AA? Nice

Saying that Ashley has no interest in fashion because she has not expressed it so far, is as much a simplification as saying Ash can't be bi, because she hasn't expressed  interest in women so far.
I really resent the stereotype that a tough female soldier is forbidden to dress up a little from time to time.

(And I don't say this, because i find dressed-up women more attractive; personally i think the most sexy thing a woman can wear are sweatpants and a hoody, a hockey jersey or a tanktop and a make-up free face)
But the emphasis is on "from time to time!" So multipe outfits/hairstyles including 'phoenix and bun' would be much appreciated.

ME1 Ash is the woman who stole the heart of my digital alter ego. That doesn't  mean, I will go into nerdrage if she changes (the writers decide to change her.) But those changes have to be within a reasonble frame of possibilities.
I think, what we have seen at E3 of Ash looks great and is more than acceptable.

If she still is the kick-ass soldier, who isn't afraid to speak her mind and fights passionately for the things, she believes in and recites the occasional poem, I will be more than happy.

To slightly alter a Huxley quote:
I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness, I want sin.
I want passion. I want Ash
.

edit: eternal shame on me for misspelling 'Ashley'
