Maybe he'd be Major Alenko? Because the Codex says that Alliance marines, "as a matter or pride", wanted to still keep some of their own ranks within the Alliance Navy and Kaidan seems to join Shepard on the ground often so, does he count as one of the Normandy's ground forces? The marine equivalent of a Captain is Major according to the Codex. Or does serving on the ship make Kaidan and Shepard Alliance Navy?

Shepard is Alliance Navy ...  confirmed at 2:55 (I'm Commander Shepard, Alliance Navy).

Shepard is Alliance Navy ...  confirmed at 2:55  1:02 (I'm Commander Shepard, Alliance Navy).

Well, apparently he has switched branches or the Lazarus project has a few side effects.

Or it is now the Alliance Naval Marines.

tbh i think the alliance is just one big military with no real distinctions between Navy or marines.to often in these games do you see ppl who would appear to be marines doing things that some one in the navy should be doing.

Like kaidan for instance he suits up with you to fight  in ME1 ground missions but at the start hes in the co-pilots seat while joker is flying the ship.shepard himself claims to be both an alliance marine and alliance navy sevral times in ME1.

Trying to think of the Alliance in the MEverse in the context of modern militaries doesn't work. The Alliance doesn't have branches like the US military does. No offense intended to other nations, but I was a member of the US Army not too long ago, and so the US military is what I'm familiar with.

In the Alliance, the "Marines" are the "infantry" subset of the Alliance military, but no formal seperation exists. Thus, Shepard can identify as either a Marine or Alliance Navy, and be correct. To be honest, I kinda wish Bioware had organized the Alliance military closer to modern conventions, 'cause it'd make it much less complicated. Especially for people like me, who think in terms of modern military organization. Alliance organization isn't explained well enough in the ME games, and so to my eyes, it looks slap-dash and disorganized. I have to put that aside, however, and remember that I don't know enough, and that there must be some form of organization that we, as players, just don't see because it's really not that important to the game itself.

I like it. Granted I was happy just having her back in one way or another but still this is good.

I prefer the "catsuit" over her armor. But giving people the choice is the best course of action.

I only stated my preference. If you want Ash in her catsuit 24/7 that's fine with me.

Ok this is a topic from our friends over in the Kaidan support thread:
As we know Ash becomes a Spectre and the Normandy was given to her after Shep goes on trial. What if Ashley is in command of the Normandy for awhile in ME3 and Shepard is under her command? How would you think your Shep would react?

Mine would be somewhat cool with it and then become a proud Alliance soldier in the armory that can't take anything seriously.

I know this is way out there and will lead to too many plot holes but hey, I thought it was an interesting idea.

@Zeuss: I thought we knew was she given the Normandy but that might be speculation but everything else is all sepeculation at this point. But it is fun to think about.

But with Ash we only have the whole Spectre "problem". Kaidan would also be one rank above Shepard. Not only a spectre but his superior.

But I think that Ash would let Shepard be the leader. He already fought these machines twice. He is THE Reaper expert. Our Ash is a practical girl. Shep knows what to do, so let him do his thing and support him as good as good as you can.
