Wouldn't it have been great if we could have had them both back?
Kaidan Alenko: When you put it that way, there's no reason they wouldn't like you. I mean, us! Humans! Ma'am.
Ashley Williams: You don't take much shore leave, do you, L-T?

I can understand the drama of Virmire. It is one of the reasons that made Mass Effect so succesful in engaging the person playing it. Yet, I do miss having both Kaidan and Ash. I wish they could both be serving together again with us in ME3.
One of the complaints I have about ME2 was that there was never a similar situation. You could let all of your crew die (excepting Chakwas I think) if you didn't go after your crew pretty quick. People could die if you did not gain their loyalty or you made a poor choice for a squad leader in the SM, but you were never faced with a choice of certainty like at Virmire. At Virmire, you knew that your choice was going to end the life of either Ashley or Kaidan right there. For many, it was a moment for much consideration before clicking that dialogue wheel.
It helped make Mass Effect great and Mass Effect 2 not as great as it could have been. Even so, it would have been nice to hear some of that inter-party banter between Williams and Alenko once again in ME3.

Maybe we will get some good banter between Ashley and Vega.

Ash and Kaidan are the only two that can not be saved on a second playthrough. I truly thought the SM would be filled with Virmire-like decisions. But it is very easy to save everyone. I think this fact is why the Kaidan and Ashley fans are so outspoken about every detail of the characters.

Nice, Ares. You are making some great pictures.AresXX7 wrote...

I did too. It was unexpected in me2 that everyone could live so easily. From the information bioware is releasing it sounds to me like there will be a lot of decisions like Virmire in me3. But maybe not.
