On Topic: Ashley should be out of another ultimatum. It should be someone else's turn because if it was Ashley and someone else I already know I would choose her right away, effectively destroying the point of the desicion.
The point is to make a hard choice, and it should be with some other characters.
That would make it interesting.

So here's a question: what do you guys think about the implied Kaidan/Ash attraction if Shepard chooses not to romance either? Do you think it makes sense? Does it bug you and cheapen their respective relationships with Shepard, or do you like that they have lives and interests beyond the PC, and you would totally wish them happiness together during playthroughs when you're off with Liara or Miranda or whoever? Does it add anything to Virmire for the survivor to have been picked over their (potential) lover?

I ask because I'm redoing my sentinel Butcher!Shep run at the moment, and Butcher!Shep dumps Liara for Thane and considers Ash her best friend. So when I got the "Kaidan's cute" vidmail bit, my Shep's inclination was to tease her and encourage her. But my response as a player was kind of "but wait... Ash, you love Shep! And Kaidan... she loves Shep! I thought we were bros, guys. Why you do this?"  It was weird.

To be honest, I always thought that vidmail was just what it sounded like--Ash's sister teasing her, and not really anything more significant. Sure, the game never explicitly specifies that Ashley and Kaidan *aren't* attracted to each other in some way, but I don't really consider Sarah telling Ashley that Sarah thinks Kaidan is cute to be an affirmative indication that there is something between Ash and Kaidan. *shrug*

I have become more a fan of the Ash-Kaidan pairing since Chignon, even if I don't see a lot of evidence for it in the game and I usually avoid tragic pairings like the IRS.

On Topic:  The SpectRE's have always fascinated me, with the notion of how one person would handle ultimate power and not become corrupted.  How do you think Ash has fared in her SpecTRe career so far?

Well, we know that Ashley is a person who takes her responsibilities seriously. Success in her chosen career has always depended upon her showing merit up and beyond what is required, she's not a person who takes shortcuts just because they're easier or abandons the high path just because someone tells her to.

If I can't see the Shadow Broker corrupting Liara (which I don't, unless her character pulls yet another 180), I certainly don't see Spectre status "corrupting" Ashley. Power corrupts the corruptible.

I don't believe Ash to be the type to be bought off or to abuse her power, which would be a refreshing change of pace since every other SpecTRe we've encountered was dirty.  Ash seems like the type who could handle the responsibility, particularly since she had to earn that rank several times over and it wasn't just given to her.
