I don't think she has the diplomatic capability. But diplomatic capability be dam*ed, she is a good soldier!Prince of Kemet wrote...

Hell yes! I seriously believe the Virmire survivor is supposed to become a Spectre somewhere in the trilogy (have a long theory about that) so Ash getting the opportunity would be awesome.
And on the topic of the ME3 endgame:
I think its totally appropriate to think of possible endings of a Shepley ending and funeral, because I honestly think that for Shepard to save the entire galaxy, Shepard will have to make the ultimate sacrifice. It makes sense, since Shepard already died once and its clear that Shepard is bound by fate (tied) with the Reapers, at least according to all the plot devices we've seen. That would be Paragon. Renegade would be possibly making an agreement with the Reapers to help them in their mission in exchange for the survival of the human race (and I imagine in this ending the Reapers would turn their back on the deal once all other resistance is gone."
anyway, back on topic, I think many of the ideas on possibly Ash involvement at Shepard's funeral are quite appropriate.

Let me just say for the record, it's nice to find people who share my liking of Ashley.
As for the current topic:
I reckon it is possible that Ashley could become a Spectre, after all since Shepard did it there would probably have been other human candidates after Shepard's death and I certainly wouldn't put that plot point past Bioware.
But then again Ashley seems to be determined to remain and Alliance Marine or at least always serving the Alliance and given that she has a few trust issues with the Council it seems like she would have difficulty accepting their leadership, especially over the army she is sworn to serve.
Though of course if you pick the right dialouge with her in Mass Effect 1 you can get her to trust the Council and a lot can happen to a person's viewpoint over two years especially in a time of desperation so I wouldn't rule out the possibility that she would but I suspect it would still be unlikely.

On the topic of endings, I am an undeniable romantic, and would much prefer the "They both life, get married, and have kids" ding, but I don't think that's going to happen. A man can hope, though.

In some ways I think this seems like the way the series would end but you never know. Maybe Shepard and his team will live or maybe it'll be Shepard dying and having Ashley merely staring deeply at his tombstone. It's hard to say at this point but given that I went the extra mile to stay faithful on no less than two playthroughs I reckon it should still feature somewhat an ending drenched in the romantic stuff. Just as long as it doesn't get too soppy. I love a good bit of emotion in a romance that can warm the heart though but preferably still mixed with the same chemistry that held it together in the first place, with laughs and jokes.
Incidentally here's a question for the board, how do you reckon the romance scene in Mass Effect 3 between Ashley and Shepard should go, do you reckon it should be powerful and passionate or soft and emotional?

I would argue honestly that the most likely kind of ending would be something along the lines of Shepard and his entire team being forced to go out in a blaze of glory, Ashley included, and dying alongside each other sacrificing themselves for the good of the galaxy.

No question, it should be powerful and passionate.......passion that leads to Ashley becomming pregnant. You mention something about Ashley staring deeply at Shepherd's tombstone.....what if.....she were crying and pregnant while doing so? Now THAT would be powerful!!!

I wouldnt mind if it did or didnt happen, but she fought next me in the final moments against Saren on the Citadel, and through everything before. She doesnt need to be a Spectre. Shes badass enough.Prince of Kemet wrote...

Yeah, you're probably right. I do however want to see Ashley go in Miranda's grill.

Part of me agrees that there should be passion as it is two people who love each other having been seperated for so long finally able to physically express their feelings for each other but at the same time I think it would be interesting from a character perspective to see Shepard lose his cool detached level headedness and suddenly become very vulnerable and emotional.
Part of the reason I loved the scene where he stares at her picture was because of his emotional engagement within, showing a weak vulnerable side to himself. Maybe the final love scene could be similar.

And probably territorial, depending on who Shepard romanced.
