Hey everyone, got back from the Iron Maiden concert a short while ago. Was pretty awesome. I took a break and now I'm ready to post again.

First off thanks to those who debated the topic I brought up. Interesting answers overall, many of which I did not think of before, and extra added insight to my views of her. I'm pretty sure she listens to metal, though, even if she listens to other stuff (except showtunes, which someone mentioned. I don't really see her as a former drama geek.). I'm pretty sure, besides Metallica, which I totally agree with, she would listen to Iron Maiden (and not saying that because I saw them tonight, I'm saying it because their songs are either based on poems or epics or they incorporate poetry into intros to songs and whatnot, and thats right up Ash's alley.)

IndigoWolfe- Awesome Ashley drawing. I can't wait to see the finished product :D

And I'm really happy to see that for once on this thread I was overloaded with posts :D. I think our movement is growing! All the other LIs' threads have thousands of pages, but I'm confident that this thread will reach 1000 or more pages by the time it closes, especially since we're almost constantly on topic.

Other topics mentioned:

-I think Ash is a great leader by now. I believe it was Funkcase who said it, but I agree with him when he said that she got commendations from Nirali Bhatia which help her case, as well as her experience with the Salarian teams on Virmire, not to mention working alongside Shepard, which has to teach her some extra things about leadership.

-As for her legal name upon marriage, I probably wouldn't know or care, since marriage to her would be enough without the complication of surname changes and whatnot... just my opinion though, no need to spread it around :)

woohoo, one day not on the boards, and 4 pages to work through ... but Ash is worth it :D

As for the endings discussion, I would like to get the possibility of having a "Blaze of Glory" Ending (with Ash reading poems at his tombstone) as well as the "and from then on they lived happily ever after" ending, with Shep and Ash having children and telling them tales of the war against the reapers ... I hope so much, that BW will give us BOTH!

I think it would be cool, if you could get the different endings not by just making one decision, but by making a long line of decisions throughout the whole game. Did anyone of you play the Bladerunner adventure? It was out in the early 90's and you could have 8(something like that) different endings, based on the decisions you made - the first time through I was completely surprised by the ending ^^. Something like that would be cool on a smaller scale - like which members on the crew survive should not be based on only two things (loyalty + one decision), but on three or four decisions which may not be immediatly obvious when you make them ... but that's maybe too much to ask for.

As for Ash being a capable leader, I totally think yes. She would have been my first choice as fire team leader both times in the suicide mission, and I'm sure she would have brought her team through without casualities. She's caring and empathic, but she is also not afraid of making harsh decisions. And she will kick everybody's ass, that's not 100% concentrated on the mission.
Would I see her as a Spectre? Probably no. In my books she's not the kind of person for the Spectre-kind of missions. The whole point of Spectre's is _not_ being in a line of command ... I think Ash needs the military structures and procedures to performe at her best. I imagine she would feel a little bit lost without it - she would still be a good Spectre, just because she is kickass anyways, but I think she would perform much better within a military structure.
Given that, I do think she should be promoted quickly and become a General (yes, General not Admiral, as she's a marine and infantry).

This just gives me an idea for the final battle in ME3: Shepard is commanding the Normandy to go on a "behind the lines - suicide mission" to take out the main reaper base. Anderson is commanding the alliance fleet in an assault on the main reaper force and Ash is commanding an infrantry regiment to attack the reaper's flank (maybe during the reapers direct attack on earth). And with the ideas given above, all three armies (or teams) could make it through alive if you made the right choices, or none of them. We would have 4 endings: The reapers win, or the reapers loose with either one, two or all of the three leaders dieing ...
(on a second thought I see the flaw of this idea, as it would only be working for Ash and Kaidan and not the other LI'S, but this is the Ash thread, so I dare to propose Ash - centered endings )

EDIT: and just for the record: Kaidan got a memorial to his honor in each and every of may games ... not becaus I don't like him, but Ash is just pure awesome, I can't leave her behind .. I made up a "background story" in my mind to rectify the decision from a military point of view, which is:
Kaidan is needed to arm the nuke, as the ingam conversation hints, he's better suited for that task. In any case, I think Ash is better suited to go with the Salarians, as their assault is in dire need of a Soldier, that can bear some beating. So, Ash is with the Salarians, and Kaidan is with the nuke, when Shepards got to make the call. At this point his logic goes like: Ok, Kaidan got the nuke armed, it will go off anyway - but if we do not take out that last AA - tower, maybe the normandy will not be able to pick everybody else up. So, it's not a decision between Ash and Kaidan, but between getting everybody out by risking one person or get one person out by riksing everybody ... this way of thinking spares me of guilty feelings because of allways choosing Ash :P

phew, thanks everybody, that dares to read this wall of text!

I support wall of text, Kacy! It promotes manymuch discussion.:)

neither Ashley nor Williams are her maiden name...maybe Madeline but that is just a midlle name...

In the United States, at least, a woman's maiden name is her family surname that she had before she married, at which point she (usually) takes on the husband's family surname. If Mass Effect marriages followed standard American marital traditions (keep in mind, Bioware may not consider this sufficiently politically correct), then Williams would be Ashley's maiden name if she married Shepard.

I think she'd probably keep the Williams name - if nothing else then as a reminder to the Alliance of all she's accomplished coming from a blacklisted family.

But, I could see the crew and friends being cute and referring to them both as Shepard.  "Hi, Shepards!" and the like.

Wait, so theres still an "Ashley Williams for ME3" thread, but we're allowed on there to post some OOC content? Thats pretty cool. I however, want to keep talking about stuff as relates to Ashley, however.

Well that thread has... (wait for it) OVER 9000! pages from what I saw, so thats awesome. I'm not worried though. I'm confident the Virmire survivor will have more of a presence, and in this case, Ashley.

Very intelligent and insightful way of looking at it. I agree and use your logic as well for almost every playthrough I've done (with the exception of 1 playthrough as a female shep with Kaidan as a romance). It makes sense that Kaidan would be arming the nuke and Ash accompanying the STG, because each completely fills the need that they're assigned to.

It sucks that Ash doesn't get the Salarian Silver Dagger if when she survives, but then again I guess its a post-mortem award, but still, I wish she was eligible to get it while alive after Virmire.

On the subject of would Ashley make a good leader, I think if Garrus was decent enough a leader to attract followers then Ash certainly has the mettle to be a good leader.

Well Ashley should be a good leader because her position requires some leadership potential. The events of ME 1 kind of train her to be one.

Wasn't Ash kind of a squad leader of the 212. I thought I read that somewhere.

Yeah I believe she was. Hence with her already good prior experiance combined with her time serving under Shepard I reckon by this point she would make for quite a good military leader.

Thanks for the confirmation V-rex. I don't always trust my memory. Age I guess.

I agree with you on Ash being a good leader. Probably would be good on solo missions too. Some think she should be a spectre. I don't see this. I could see a commando or special forces. Shep is an N7 in ME1. Highest rank special forces. If memory serves me right. Shep was impressed with Ash's abilities. So I think Ash could lead or go special forces.

A week ago, I never would have said we'd ever see Ashley in any DLC, but since BioWare announced the Leliana DLC, my hopes have in return been renewed for Ash showing up in a DLC. Eventually.

Well hope is all we have right now. They can't take that from us. Well I guess they can. But I will fight them for it. Ash is worth it.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  Bridging ME2 and ME3 requires Ash - doesn't it?  Doesn't it?!

That depends on if they plan on bringing back everyone for ME3. If they do, then i'm willing to bet the inevitable ME2 expansion will have a bit of ash in it. If they don't intend to bring everyone back, then no ash DLC. At least, that's my current views on it.

Not really related, but as a note; is Lord Zeuss ever gets all self-righteous about this "No Ash, No Money" buisiness, I'd just like to point out that he's not the one buying all the DLC that he's able to play.
