Aliens are always appealing to scifi fans....Ash is just a human...and a good one too...

I get my bitterest cynicism from this fact. Aliens are always going to be more important to average sci-fi fans than humans are. The generic "I already know everything about humans, humans are boring!" response is one of the saddest commentaries on the state of society that I can think of.

Humans get the short stick because they're not as shiny, novel, and new as the host of fresh faces for us to fantasize with. Saying nothing negative about the alien characters themselves, but I attach myself most readily to the familiar and the relatable, which means humans, which means Ashley Madeline Williams.

Its kinda easy to label an alien character a certain archetype character: Klingons are warrior, vulcans are intellectual and so on. People who like that sort of archetype will identify with the alien.

If you do that to a human character, it makes him/her look one dimensional. People will instead calling him/her shallow or underdeveloped. It's almost like an accepted convention of sci-fi writing.

About returning of Ash in ME3 I have a lot of bad feelings .... I don't think we will see her as a squadmate and I doubt we will get the chance to fully explore our romance with her further. Don't get me wrong - I would love to see it happen, I just don't think it's going to happen. Here's my reason for it:

There are 3 possible LI's in ME1 and another ummm, 6(?) in ME2. If they make one of the LI a squadmember, they would need to make ALL of them a squadmember, or they will pi** off a good share of their fanbase, which they won't risk. If they bring back all LI's you allready have a team of around 8 people, which doesn't leave a lot of room for new characters, which would certainly pi** off another good share of the fanbase.

So, my guess goes like this:

Ash/Kaidan will return and will be our contact to the Alliance faction. Liara will also return and will be our contact to the "Shadow Network" she takes over from the Shadow Broker.

Once the Reaper-threat is defeated for good, we will get a love scene with Ash/Kaidan/Liara which is exactly the same as the other endgame love scenes with ME2 or ME3 LI's. There will be some sort of dialogue/fade out screen that is customized according to LI and game decisions like in Dragon Age. That's it.

I do not think, they will flesh out each and every romance option from ME1 and ME2, as this is most certainly beyond their available time and ressources. You would need something like 12 romances (3 from ME1, 6 ME2 and may another 3 from ME3) written and voice acted which takes time and is going to cost a fortune.

At best we will get a mission for Ash/Kaidan to regain their faith and get the support of Alliance and we get another mission to support Liara. Maybe we will have them in our squad in these missions and get some good dialogue at the occassion.

Again, don't get me wrong I would love to see Ash in my squad, but if I look at it from what I think is a logical PoV for a game developer I don't see it happen.

Please proof my logic wrong :)

Posted Image I just love this type of discussion, but I will try:

As far as returning character goes, i do not expect we will get all of ME2 squad back. I fully expect Thane, Moridin, Samara, Kasumi, Zaeed and Jack to leave for whatever reason. Its pretty clear from the moment you recruit them that they are only here for the collectors, and they have their own life to get back to.

That leaves Garrus, Tali, Jacob, Miranda, Grunt and Legion. Thats 2 Romance for male and two for female, plus 2 combat character, which I think is reasonable. And they cover pretty any skill set you need in a party member. That makes 6 characters. to which if you add Liara + Ash/Kaidan, thats like 8. And that leaves 4 more spot for new members.

Also, I think any new members will be through DLC, not through regular gameplay, otherwise ME3 will look too much like ME2. We already went through the whole process of putting together a team, we don't need to repeat that process every game.

Now this I think will take care of your problem of too many characters and too much dialogues, so there shouldn't be a problem with that.

Also, there are already people for quest giving. TIM for cerbrus, Anderson for the Alliance,  with Aria and Wrex for everyone else.

Thats two cents anyway, i love to hear some feed backPosted Image

Edit: Oh yea, and I almost forgot, you have to taken into account of people who played neither ME1 and ME2. For these new players, Bioware will have to set them up with a romance. If the default setting for ME2 is any indication, Male shep will be canoned with Ash and Fem shep with Kaidan, with Liara being a alternate for both. I will even go as far as saying the unless your import ME2 saved game, you won't get romance with anyone else. (Certainly would improve more sales for older game). From this prospective, Ash/Kaidan/Liara will almost have to be part of your squad.

You might actually be onto something here. That is a viable course of action. Not that I'm saying I think Bioware will take it, but it could just work, even if it would make the Thane and Jack fans riot. I need to believe we'll get Ash back in ME3, dang it!

You mean kinda like what they did to us ME1 LI fans. No bioware would never do that. Sarcasm directed at bioware not you.
We really have no idea what will happen. They could bring back the ME1 crew and drop the ME2 crew. Yes they could.
They could bring everyone back and everyone thinks they get what they want and find that every LI gets two sentences and a kiss scene and fad to black. We could get a whole new crew. Yes it could happen. Kinda happened to the ME 1 crew. But Bioware is good at what they do. They made alot of cutscense and dialog in Dragon Age that might not ever be seen. You have major characters that can be missed or told to leave the party. So Bioware is capable. I might get Ash and Shep back together early in ME3. Save the galaxy together, then get them married off with Anderson doing the ceremony. Well it probably wont happen. But it could.

Maybe they will all be available, but you can't only take so many with you. Or maybe it will be an exclusive or. You can have Grunt or Garrus, but not both. You can have Jack or Miranda, but not both.

I'd like that "or" system, if it is implemented.  There are a lot of squaddies who are kind of forced on you, and some do seem to serve duplicate roles (i.e. Liara and Samara as badass biotic asari, Legion and Tali as engineer with stake in Geth/Quarian war, etc.).   And, if that choice ever comes down to Jacob or Ash at the gunnery station - sorry, you're not my kind of priiiize, bro.  Posted Image

Well really if its Ash or someone else, well its Ash. If Ash isn't available . Well I could say no Ash no money. I know I wouldn't finish the game. My Shep would find the nearest bar and drink himself to death. Sad I know.

Well, I just have to say that I'm proud to be here. This thread has come a long way from the first one (tragic end IMO), and I'm glad to see so many supporters here. I feel like I actually belong here.

To start off, I officially love Ashley! When I first saw her in ME, I knew she would be my love interest. I loved her personality, especially her hatred of politics. I did not expect her revealing her family being blacklisted, and when she did I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. And the words "You make me feel good enough" made me think I did the right thing. While I do have to admit that I was almost on the fence after Horizon in ME2, Ash's message afterwards and the staring at her picture before the suicide mission brought me back. As long as she regretted what she said, I still remain faithful to her, and I hope to continue that in ME3.

Overall, Ash is an incredible woman, and I will never abandon her for something/someone else. ;)

Honestly, I wasn't part of the previous fold (me being almost a week-old member), but I went back to see why it was closed. All that trolling and spam... Ugh. I'm glad to see that there's little, if any, here. Oh, and the day of Ash isn't dawning; it's already here, and we're living every moment of it with her. Just wait until ME3, and the epic experience will be complete!Posted Image

Sorry, ME3 will have 20 new squadmates (so they don't have to be deep), and you'll get an email from your romantic interest.
