I was trying to find my more detailed post last night from the last time the squaddies were discussed, but I agree that I think she'll be wary about Legion. After Eden Prime, I'm surprised Jacob doesn't have a stronger reaction to him, to be honest. I think she'd come around some after seeing how Legion interacts with Shepard, but I think she'd always be a little distrustful and nervous.

@V-rex: Love your post, and your rationale. I completely agree - though, I'll admit, I haven't actually gone through with any of the other romances in ME because I like Ash's so much. Even exploring the others was enough to make me feel like I was missing out.
As you point out, every interaction with Ash is so nuanced, and the progression from comrade to unresolve sexual tension to romantic partner feels completely natural, unhurried, and unforced. I think that Ash emerges as more of a 'partner' than purely a 'love interest' - which is one of the many reasons I adore the interaction.
I actually never did any other romances myself either, I just saw the clips of them on youtube or watching a friend playing them and built up my opinions based on that. Though because that's not a very fair way to judge that's why I made all those notes of respectful disagreeance because I knew I mightn't be the best authority on this matter.
So yeah, like you I just found the romance with Ash as really, really great and so when I saw the Liara/Kaidan romances I could certainly see what other people liked about them but I was happy with my choice, twelve times I've played Mass Effect 1 so that's twelve times I've romanced Ashley. I'm a veteran of Ash Fandom.
Incidently, just ot add some flame for Topic I had a crazy idea for how the romance with Ashley and Shepard could work in Mass Effect 3. Essentially, an affair.
My thinking is that during the slow points of emotional recovery their feelings occassionally get the better of them and even though Ashley is sworn to the Alliance and that once again it is considered 'ethically wrong' Shepard and Ashley start to descreetly rebuilt their relationship and inevitibly sleeping together while still trying to keep that quiet.
The way I see it, it balances the emotional tension between the two as well as the political tension and it makes room for character development once again as Ashley finds herself being driven towards serving with Shepard and his ideals or even Shepard being driven back towards serving the Alliance again. I think it could be interesting if nothing else.
Still that's just a thought. Not saying it's great but I thought it would help revitalise some conversation.
EDIT: Incidently this could be my last post for about three days so yeah, keep holding the line Ash Fans until I return.

Additionally, speaking to your last point....
We all know the mission, and what is at stake.
We have come to trust that Ash will be in ME3 -- but I have also heard murmurs of discontent regarding where things might be going. I share your concerns.
We are trained to always be on-topic; we would be more vocal, but the old thread got locked.
Spam posting is not our way.
Think of our hero: the Gunnery Chief, who was the sole survivor of her unit on Eden Prime. Or the Operations Chief, who kept armies of angry fans at bay with a single emailed note.
These appearances do not seem to give us solace here, but they are not all that we hope for.
Before ME2, there were the old forums. We are not just an Ash support group, we are soldiers!
Our influence did nothing to help prevent her cameo, but before that we held the line!
Our influence has attracted trolls and new posters, but before that we held the line!
Our influence will (hopefully, fingers-crossed and all that) bring Ash back to ME3; in the battle today, and always WE WILL HOLD THE LINE!

Personally, I have nothing against same-sex romances, and I would have welcomed it from the start had it been an option in ME1. However, since the character's already been set in 2 (well, 1.5 really) installments, I think it wouldn't be appropriate to implement in the third. I suppose this largely stems from my lack of faith that it would be handled maturely and would do justice to Ash's character. If it were done gracefully - i.e. losing FemShep made Ash realize her feelings went beyond camaraderie, and she freaked out on Horizon because of it, etc. - I personally wouldn't have a problem with it. Otherwise, if it's just suddenly an option with no backstory ... We see no inkling of any bisexual attraction from her throughout the other games, and I don't think it would do Ash justice to just suddenly be open to it.

Greetings Ashlovers. I'm not a poster on this thread, but I have a question for you die-hard fans. It may have been answered earlier in the thread, but I'd like your input anyway. In other threads it has been discussed that Ashley should be expanded so that she is available as a love interest for female Shepards. Do you all agree that this is an acceptable expansion of the character, or would a bisexual Ashley somehow ruin the character for you?
I would oppose it. Not so much because I see it as a change of the character really (ME is the future! Where, in my head, sexuality has become a non-issue and thus isn't really considered part of ones character.) But just because it would mean even more romance dialogue for the writers. There's already going to be tons of breadth as far as LIs in ME3, so they should really be focusing on adding as much depth as they can imo. In a nutshell: I wouldn't want any shep, male or female, to be able to start a new relationship with Ash.

@V-rex: That's definitely an interesting idea as to how to rebuild the relationship. While I'd prefer something far more out-in-the-open and less discreet .... at this point, I'd take any relationship in ME3. We're eating bitter-O's in the off-topic thread today. Also, wow - three days? We'll miss having the 'new guy' around here.

While quoting just to say I approve is something I just don't do here anymore. I will make an exception in this case. Standing ovation Silver. I love what you did there. For me it was, is , and shall be Ashley. Hold the line, Ash is worth it.

I have to say that I am against this idea, as I personally feel that it would be a horrible miscarriage of Ashley's character to arbitrarily assign her a new sexuality. Without going into my views on the matter (which admittedly are dense), suffice it to say that I would not appreciate Ashley in the same way I presently do had she been presented as bisexual from the outset, although I concede that this would be better than a sudden change of her established sexuality.
Bottom line: I like Ashley the way she is, and I would be deeply disappointed if Bioware changed the way she is.

I'd of been fine with it if it were like that from the start, but changing it now is just a bad idea. Kind of a moot issue though, as she nor any of the other squad members will be returning.

But don't worry, there will be at least one character in ME3 who is like that. A new character.

In Ashley's letter, she mentions that the night before Ilos was "our night" - which I've seen interpreted in a couple different ways. Some believe this indicates that she and Shepard called things off shortly thereafter, whereas some others have said she was meant that the night before Ilos was what started it all. What do you think?

I think it's just as likely to indicate either of the above as it is the indicate the obvious; (it pains me to say it so bluntly) the night before Ilos was when they did it. I've never thought about that subject at length, so I've yet to formulate an ironclad opinion on the matter.

Yes, Zeuss, that's what I was trying to dance around.
My thoughts - If they entered into a relationship thereafter, where one would assume they'd be 'doin' it' regularly, it wouldn't be necessary to reference back to the night before Ilos as "our night." I think the language implies it was a one-time thing, and I, personally, read it as a sign that one of them dediced to cool off for a bit, reasses things. I think it's interesting that Kaidan says much the same thing in his letter - "Do you even remember that night before Ilos? That night meant everything to me... maybe it meant as much to you."
I was just curious what people thought.
