I'm in the dwarven city and I'm still trying to decide who to help. The problem is, I don't feel like I know enough about either one of them to really back either one of them up. So on to the question.

Where or to whom can I go to get more information about both of the "candiates" before I make a decision? I've been all around the city but no one wants to give up any information that's useful about either one (other than their own bias lackys).

Is there someone or something I need to do to get more information about these guys or do I just need to pick one and hope for the best (God, I feel like it's the last 3 american elections all over again.)

Thanks!

Just play both of them against each other until the very end - one of them will give you an order that's significantly more 'evil' than the other, plus you can find out some of the very, very naughty things he did in his past.

This part of the story feels so much like real politics! It's great, but like in real life, it gives me a headache. JUST GIVE ME THE FACTS!

Hehe thanks Mutant Dwarf.

To get more information pick up the first quest from both parties (agree to at least look into helping them) and don't complete the actions but go around to everywhere that seems logical. Like for the son you get some papers and you can go to the shaper to get an opinion on the relative merits of those papers before using them to sway voters. Similarly with the older guy you need to sway some people to resume a commitment they have abandoned and their motivation for abandoning it may also be interesting to you.

Also hold down tab as you explore the old guys place - there's an interesting letter that also exposes the character of one of the candidates (and which may be further substantiated later with evidence)

I played both sides a bit and didn't commit to any side until it was basically all over giving me plenty of information on which to make a decision.

Is it possible to find the lost paragon? It seems like some of the people in Orz hinted at it and I would think that would be the ideal choice.

The paragon would make an interesting queen to say the least...

Harrowmont has "passionate discourses" with male nug-herders in Dust Town.

Do YOU want a man like that as YOUR kind?

...yes.

Because Beylan has "passionate discourses" with the male nugs.

Shades of grey, people!

Harrowmont funnels money earned from partnerships with Dust Town Cartas to fuel an illegal addiction to topsider-brewed Lyrium-laced ales! As king, he would put the cartas in control of every aspect of Orzammarian life! Bhelen pledges to destroy all forms of corruption and crime, and will uplift all dwarven citizens! Don't trade away your livelihoods to casteless thugs! Support Bhelen for King!

To my noble dwarf rogue neither candidate is acceptable, cause I know what Behlen did to get the prince-hood, and Harrowmont basically helped him do it.

Ah yes. The monologue given by the old drunk in the bar from Team America: World Police comes to mind...

Bhelen royally screwed me over in the Dwarven Noble story, so I personally in every playthrough sided with Harrowmount

If you want to know more about Bhelen play that origin, it makes his character (and Harrowmounts) more interesting.

I personally have been a Dwarven Noble on 2 playthroughs now and have chosen Harrowmount because of insight my origin provided. But I'm starting to feel like I need to put the needs of the many over my needs alone and choose Bhelen.

I like the idea of popping in every once and a while as Paragon to "make sure" everthing is on the up and up.

And to make sure my son is on track to succeed Bhelen when the time is right.

Dwarven Commoner also brings some interesting revelations, too, though. Although Dwarf Noble might be stronger.

In the end, though, to someone who isn't dwarf- either is an 'okay' choice. They'll both give you an army, right? So it doesn't matter so much who's on the throne so much as getting one of them on it, I imagine. Really, you can ask people all around the city about their opinions, but most of them just give you an incredibly biased answer. Which is probably to be expected. No one in the game is without their biases.

I loved this aspect of the game. It's real politics. They're both dirty. Bhelan is "dirtier" and "crueler" but he's better for the majority of the dwarfs. Harrowmont isn't as dirty, and substantially more level headed, but he's a traditionalist that would see Dwarven society excluded from the world, and the caste system held intact no matter the cost.

In both the dwarf origins, you're natural bias is going to lead you toward one or the other (Harrowmont for noble and Bhelan for commoner). If you get all the facts as a human or elf it's a tough choice, depending on what you care about. If all you care about is an army, it doesn't matter. If you care about continued relationship with the dwarves, Bhelan is an obvious choice. If you care about honest, level headed politicians leading instead of irrational warriors, Harrowmont will seem like the obvious choice. But regardless of whether you're dwarf, human, or elf, at the end of the day, you'll have to realize any decision you make puts a corrupt man on the throne. And that's politics 101.

I loved this scenario. It reminded me of a Japanese film called "Yojimbo" - where a samurai plays two rival gangs off each other so they won't take over/destroy a town. There is also a Clint Eastwood western with a similar theme I think.

But what I really wanted at the end was to give a speech and tell everyone what had happened up to that point - sort of lay out everyone's dirty laundry and at the end say "I'm not sure I'd pick either one of them." But that would have caused too much chaos and not really helped against the blight.

Maybe just have the warden say "Whichever one of you stubby legged mf'ers can get up here first and take the crown from me can have it."
