Here's the thing:

I first played my copy on an SDTV with 480i resolution and worked just fine. Then I transfered to a TV with 720 resolution and still worked fine. But when I tried playing it again on the 480i SDTV... it goes black and white

Seriously, I don't know what's wrong with it

Other games work fine with the switching, though

>_<;

so what do ya think is the solution for this aside from an HD tv? is it about the firmware 1.2? cuz without the firmware its working out fine but without 1.2 DOA always crashes..

It really is because of 1.2? I thought of that... but I didn't try deleting it yet obviously because of the crashing...

and honestly, I have no clue as what other option we have for this >_>

hd tv pls?

like i mentioned in my post 3 months ago ( http://social.biowar...8/index/1588491 ), Dragon Age: Origins worked fine on an SDTV until the first patch for Awakenings. Now it seems to have been optimized for HDTVs only, and no longer works well for SDTVs, which sucks for SDTV owners.

no one from Bioware has given a reply in that thread, and the new patch hasn't fixed this, so i don't think they'll be fixing this any time soon...apparently SDTV owners are considered a minority and aren't really worth their time.

i've gotten an HDTV since then, and can play DA:O normally again, but i felt screwed by the whole experience that i refuse to purchase anything from Bioware ever again.
:crying:

PS3 already NTSC unless you want PAL.

it should be a fairly easy solution for Bioware to revert it back, since it originally worked fine on SDTVs--I bought mine in December 2009, and used it mostly on an SDTV for about 2 months without any problems...until the patch for Awakening came along, which made my copy unplayable on an SDTV from that point on.

this is our problem, we are using NTSC PS3s and using NTSC copies of DAO, yet the patch has turned it into non-SDTV compatible displays.

I am not sure if I understand the problem...I play on an SDTV, with the newest patch and firmware. I am using the PAL-version, but usually NTSC-versions should play fine in PAL on PS3. However, if it is black and white and "rolling", maybe the problem is the 60 Hz display of the game. In this case, I suggest the same method Europeans have used for all import games for many years: buy an RGB cable. The standard stuff coming with the PS3 is crap, just buy an RGB cable and you get the best possible picture quality on SDTVs and can play everything in color. If you already own an RGB cable from your PS1 or PS2 you can use those as well. It´s sad that Sony always packs in crap with their consoles.

BTW, while Europe is common in Europe, it is not used in the USA; so US gamers must find another solution.

the rgb cable is the component cable, not included in the ps3 package... if you do get to try it out, do tell if it works ^^;

I´m sorry it did not solve the problem...

Just to be sure, the cable looks like this? Image IPB

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

It must not be one with the three cables where you put a scart adaptor on, but a real cable.

But then again, if you got color now it´s probably the correct one.

One last thing you can try: On the desktop of the PS3, don´t know what it is called, you can set the system settings. There you can select the correct signal for games and movies etc...be sure it is set to RGB. If it is, you might want to try the other options just to be safe.

If nothing works...well, at least it should give you a much better picture than the standard cable with other games.

yeah it gave me a much much more better picture cuz now i can read the letters now with games like ACII and FF13... but still i cant play DAO LOL! but wait, mine doesnt look like that, its RGB but it hase five cables, red blue green white and another red... and my SD tv doesnt have the SCART slot in the back, i think SD tv in pal regions have different slots in the back...

Wait, are you in a PAL region or in NTSC-land?

In PAL territories most TVs have the scart slot, I am not sure about how the most common slots look in NTSC regions...

But anyway, I don´t have more suggestions than these...at least the RGB cable gave you a better picture, I also had huge problems reading the letters in some games when not connected with RGB...many devs do not care about us non-HD-players sadly.

Sorry it did not help with DA:O. :(

no problem man, its ok! :D

btw im in ntsc region

i think mostly or all sd tv slots have 2-9 slots of cable(less means older). most commonly have the yellow, red and white slots. mine has 3 reds, 1 blue, 1 green, 2 yellow and, 2 whites 9 in total....

yeah ur right devs dont care bout SD tv user anymore... may be they'll just say "who doesnt have an HD tv nowadays?" i read some forums with arogant people saying this phrase..
