I could also settle for a thick Austrian accent, that way they'll all sound like the Terminator.

Having lived in Scotland (I'm from England btw), if they gave them a proper Scottish accent I would think that you all would need to turn the subtitles on and then have them translated.

Hahaha for real, man. I can't understand anything they say.
Anyway, I like that Dwarves have... American? Ish? accents. I mean, I like the usual dwarven stereotype, but I think ditching the faux Scottish was an important part of actually letting them make a functioning dwarven society that you could relate to as real people instead of a bunch of furry men who drink a lot of ale and are soft on the inside but gruff on the outside. I've seen enough of those. This is also why I love the elves - they aren't JUST mysterious fairies who dance around the forest and build crystal towers. They're a lot more interesting.
Not to say that you can't be a relateable character with a Scottish accent, obviously. Merely, it was such a fundamental part of the stereotype that I think getting rid of it was a wise choice in their attempts to break out of it.

I have always hated scottish dwarfs. Ok, have one property using it is fine. But when everyone has these dudes running around with the thick accent. It has become more of a parody. I can't take scottish dwarfs seriously. It just completly yanks me out of the setting. And while I'm at it the notion that dawrven women have beards is bloody stupid.
I dont have a problem with scottish dwarves really, never figured out where the idea came from, but it doesnt bother me. The beared ladies bit always bugged me. Lotro copped out of making female dwarves cause of Gimli's comment in the Ring series...
Anyway, I really like Biowares take on dwarves. I love their concept and their less than stellar goodness in the game is refreshing. As long as blackguard dwarves dont become common place this is a great idea.

Also, their arms make them look kinda morbid. Their body are really wired.
But I guess they made them look like that to be able to reuse the character animations.

Dwarfs in this game ****** me off. What's the deal with dwarfs in this game not talking like Scotty?
Really. Normal accents. I understand you're trying to make your own lore but come on. This is something that should not be changed. Dwarfs say 'Och!' and "aye" and 'cannae'. They have no use for normal expressions. Saying 'me bonny lass' yes, but not proper English. I always play a dwarf in RPG and PnP D&D. My impression of Connery is impeccable and I can call children 'wee bairns' without anyone looking at me funny. I must admit this alone caused me to quit the game. Also the fact that I got kicked out of my home town and my father sayd "good luck", really GOOD LUCK???! Where the hell is the family legacy goodybye: "Gude toidings lad o' moine, ye cannae live in thes place nae more!!" Nope they all spoke like people who took 4th grade grammar lessons and hadn't been smacked in the face with a haggis.
I want Dwarf using a freaking high country brogue you can barely understand. But yet I'm forced to comprehend all the dialog! All the other races get accents... Leliana's french vocal shading is great, I even have a guy who sounds like Inigo Montoya and a giant who's apparently from Lincoln, Nebraska but I have yet to hear anyone go "Serr, me health bar canne take much moore a'this! Oi've got nae stamina left, captain... Oi'm givin 'er awl she's got!"
Why are we forced to use English grammar as a dwarf?
LOL i too had this thought at first, the shock of having a dwarf talking like he was from the USA was a bit hard to swallow but then maybe not all dwarfs would talk with the same accent, but if not a celtic scot accent atleast a medevil european one would sound better imho.As some one else said Freeedom the problem was mel didnt sound close to being a real scot, the worlds history is being twisted into hollywoodesc american accents, our youth think that everyone talks like americans or ramsy street lol.

I think the idea of scotish dwarves came about because dwarves allways come from a clan and honour there clan and eldars etc, which is like the old scots came from clans as did all the celts and most of pre roman england.

Picts FTW.
Besides, if they made the dwarves talk like we truly do here in Scotland they would have to have thought of a new rating for it above (18).
Did you see Robin Williams Live on Broadway? The bit about how freakin hard it is it understand a Scot except for the f bomb every other word is f.r.e.a.k.i.n. hilarious. And so true. I met James McAvoy for like 5 minutes and there were maybe 300 f's in there. And oh btw Scots history is just blood curdling. It's not hard to understand why you guys freak the English the hell out. Plus there's ale in Scotland that's like 80 proof. Crazy. Why do you guys suck at sports though? You'd think you'd be good at it.

Well... for one... Faerytail Dwarfs have origins in the folklore from in and around Germany.
They should be speaking with German/Dutch accents. Ja?
Nay! They're Nordic! They're Dvegar!
They should speak old norse!
Máttr Þórs er í hamrinum.
Sadly, I, and just about everyone else can't speak old norse =P Could easily give them the accent though. Their names are already Nordic.
