People sure are being petty with the whole spell check thing. This might have developed into a reasonably decent discussion on the artistic inspiration for the character design of Mass Effect. But forget it. Op misspelled Asari, so let's all ridicule him.

Just waitin' to snark, folks are...look at them fins!

Its not so much that he misspelled it as its that he insisted that he didn't. Rofl

I giggled so much right now I have a tear in my eye.

God, I love this place.

Yes, I just notice similarities betwen alien races and real world animals.

Reapers= Cephalopod
Hanar = jellyfish
turian = raptor(Birds of prey)
Salarian = frog
Elcor = elephant
Volus = don't know what they look like under the suits, midgets probably

Fixed

Turians were actually meant to look like raptors.

Birds of prey.

I don't know who the hell these Arasi are, but damn I wish they'd replace the Asari. The Asari are a silly race, I do not wish to do business with them.

Nope. A Puerto Rican. Just look at his figurine they're making.

Slap a t-shirt on him and its like he never left Ponce.

It's painfully obvious you're gunning for 'king of the snappy comeback'. Consider yourself crowned.

You do know I'm actually royalty outside of the username, right? (Royal Sikh Rajput Indian blood runs through my veins)

Then again, I'm half Cuban too, so maybe I shouldn't bring that up too much.

Ahh, but my kids are gonna be friggen AWESOME lookin.

Yeah, I'm gonna go with that. Why not.

I can't believe no one has mentioned what Mess Sargent Gardner says about his calamari stew. "Truth be told it's based on an Asari recipe. Seems a little cannibalistic to me what with their tentacle heads and all, but whatever."

*clears his throat*

People, we have 2 options.
1. Asari were just a design that bioware simply came up with, someone drew it for no particular reason... "That looks cool! Sexy too!" and thats that.
2. Bioware thought about it a lot, references other things, subconscious. Stuff like this.

I go for number 2, because look at the negative space between the head surfaces guys.
Look at them and think, I mean really look.

PS. With a simple crop, rotate and recolour of any shot of an asari's head and I could show you what i'm talking about, but the resulting image would not be suitable for these forums.
Edit: Just did it, I'm most definately right, and no I can't post the image here.

I am confused by this topic. Is the OP asking whether the Asari are human, or a human - squid hybrid, or whether the people who made the game used a squid and a human head to design the Asari?

I really don't understand who/what you are referencing #2 to.
