I am confused by this topic. Is the OP asking whether the Asari are human, or a human - squid hybrid, or whether the people who made the game used a squid and a human head to design the Asari?

I mean both, since asari are very alike humans. They even wear the same armor. They could have evolved from squid, like humans evolved from monkeys. Or squids can be an inspiration for design for asari in the concept arts.

Yeah...but if the asari evolved from squid wouldn't they look a lot more squid like?  I mean humans look a lot closer to monkeys than the asarl look like squid.

Didn't whales evolve from land mammals?

Yes that's why I said squid human.

Something like that. Over billions of years, anyway.

People, we have 2 options.
1. Asari were just a design that bioware simply came up with, someone drew it for no particular reason... "That looks cool! Sexy too!" and thats that.
2. Bioware thought about it a lot, references other things, subconscious. Stuff like this.

I go for number 2, because look at the negative space between the head surfaces guys.
Look at them and think, I mean really look.

PS. With a simple crop, rotate and recolour of any shot of an asari's head and I could show you what i'm talking about, but the resulting image would not be suitable for these forums.
Edit: Just did it, I'm most definately right, and no I can't post the image here.

I really don't understand who/what you are referencing #2 to.

Not sure what you mean. I just mean that the design, is designed very meticulously to make you think of 'certain things' subconsciously. And they did a very good job ^_^

Did you do what I said? Look at the OP's image, and look at the asari's head. You should see what I'm talking about. The hint is that I can't post the image i came up with in 20 seconds in paint, A crop, a rotate, and a re-colour (human skin)

:innocent:

This method has been used on many, many things before.
Tbh I probably could post the image, it's just a cropping of their design after all ^^

B)

Well I didnt want to say ^_^
Maybe i'm just twisted but I noticed this years ago in ME1.

I could actually go into quite a lot of detail, why a shape doesnt conform to the nearest curve and other such things. As if the shapes were moved by the modeler, away from a normal or obvious choice, on purpose

Oh I see. Thanks for explaining. Don't see the big deal in avoiding, you could just make a mild reference like "female genetalia" if it was so hard. But I get what you mean now.

I always wondered if their "tentacles" can move.

Maybe there is something about this in the codex...

Hey I got a theory. Since the Reapers look like squids, the asari might have created them. Maybe not the current generation of asari, but a different asari race.

Yes, I just notice similarities betwen alien races and real world animals.

Asari = squid
Hanar = jellyfish
turian = reptile
Salarian = frog
Elcor = elephant
Volus = don't know what they look like under the suits, midgets probably

Actually Eddo,

Salarians = Salamander/Frog Hybrid

Krogans = Toads

So THAT'S what you meant by "arasi".

I was wondering what that was.

Actually, I'm sure it says in ME book that Krogans were Turtle+Camel.

Think it was Revelation, but I don't have the book anymore.

Asari are part of the humanoid group of aliens. There are 4 groups of aliens, Humanoid, Average, Unknown, and Different blooded.

Humanoid aliens have the same futhers of a human. Asari are humanoids because of there body structure and facial structure (ignoring the head fringe) Batarians are also humanoids do to there body structure. 5 fingers, 10 toes, etc.

Average aliens are Salarians, Vorcha, and Krogans. They have 3 fingers and possibly different numbers of toes (3 probably) They are just like humans and asari but without their looks (vorcha are a little different).

Unknown aliens are weird creatures that do not fit in with the average or humanoids. They come in different shapes in sizes. Elcor are not humanoid obviously but have no features or your average aliens. As with the Hanar.

Diffferent blooded are aliens that are like average aliens but they need different needs to survive. (Qurians, Turians, Volus).

I thought Turians and Quarians were pretty humanoid due to their body structure similarities. (2 legs, 2 arms, stand up on legs)

Just because they don't have 10 fingers and 10 toes doesn't define humanoid or not, IMO.

They aren't humanoid not only because of there looks but there DNA. Turians and Quarians eat the same food. The food they both eat is toxic to other species making them different.
