To clarify: Medi-Gel > Lvl 1 Barrier.

With Heavy Barrier my Adept had 600+ shields. There's no way Medi-Gel can provide that level of protection, and when you're running to flank a horde of enemies, 600+ shields is the difference between making it to cover and reloading.

Nah Medi-Gel has a much faster cooldown & also restores health along with shields.

On insanity your shields get blowen off in seconds even with Barrier & i'm pretty sure that the bonus shield stack you get from Barrier only lasts til the first time your shield gets put back down then its gone & your left waiting for the sick cooldown to end.
So yeah Medi-Gel > Lvl 4 Barrier any day [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie]

Unless you're trying to claim that your shields get blown off in the same amount of time no matter the number then your point doesn't make any sense.

I wonder about that.  sometimes I get hit with a big blast that should have done a hell of a lot more damage, but just my sheild goes.

And barrier has no delay of activation. Medi gel has one.

Nope what am saying is is that even with lvl 4 Barrier the extra amount of time that it will take to get your shields blown off is so small that it's not worth the long sick cooldown when you already have Medi-Gel which restores shields already but with a much shorter cooldown

For an Adept with fully upgraded passive and amp, the cooldown isn't *that* bad. It essentially works out as about 7 seconds. Given that the average amount of time to draw a bead with your handcannon and do meaningful damage is about 3 seconds, I'm not sure this almighty hooplah you're making about the cooldown is actually true in practice.

And you keep banging on about restoring shields. That is a side effect of Barrier. Not it's intended purpose. Lvl1 isn't good for much more than that, granted, but I would expect you to show some numbers if you're arguing that the extra amount of time given isn't worth it on a lvl4 barrier..

For instance, Hvy Barrier's nil casting time (to the extent that you can switch it on while paralysed) makes it one of the best things to use when under assault by flamers. Medi Gel can't do that.

Hmm.. I'm with Smokey on this one. Barrier or no, my shields get stripped toot-sweet (fast) on insanity.Even at double strength (in the 600 range) they're gone a couple seconds after i leave cover.

I'd rather invest in an ammo or something that takes up slack when a target gets past my singularity.

I don't ever rely on shields to get me anywhere.

I tried Heavy Barrier... and hated it. I'm going to stick with energy drain.
