People forget the movie is based on ME1 not ME1 and 2.
Where has that been said? I am pretty sure you are making that up.
BioWare has a history of creating fiction outside of the story of their games, but intertwining. The books, comics and even Galaxy are a great example. I highly doubt they will not do the same given a new medium. Why tell the same story again as they have in the games? Given BWs track recored I would say (and hope) it is unlikely.
Indeed. No matter how good the movie becomes, it would be a huge mistake to do another version of a story allready told. Especially when that story allready has a sequel (ME2, and a few books/comics). I seriously doubt they will make ME1 into a movie, Bioware is not that stupid (I hope).
And besides, there is so much else they could make a story of, why retell one that has been told allready?

Even if you get dubbed, acting is still more than just walking around and looking in the right direction. They're gonna need a skilled actor. I'd personally like to see Ray Stevenson in the role. Of course he doesn't have to resemble Mark Vanderloo so if they can find someone badass like Samuel L. Jackson, that would be fine by me.

*facepalm*
Are you saying Sam Jackson is not a good actor? Sure, he did some **** like Snakes on a Plane, but the man can act.
Snakes on a Plane is pure classic gold! But seriously... go to the theatre and watch Unthinkable, best performance by Sam. L. Jackson in years, maybe since Pulp Fiction, he still kicks ass. He would not be fit for (default) Sheppard but It would be cool to see him in the ME movie, maybe as Anderson?

Yes, it would be stupid of them to take a story which has proven to be successful and adapt it into a new format where it will be viewed by millions of new people and pretty much all of the people who have already encountered it too.

Indeed. Good story is worth retelling, especially in new format because it is still a damn good story. Gives a chance for more people to experience it as not all people play games.
Henry Cavill huh? The only thing of the Tudors I've seen is that hot scene with Gabrielle Anwar on the boat, but I just looked again to make sure and...yeah, he definitely looks like a Shepard.
Can he pull off an action hero, Mark Meer type of voice?
Well, let's face it, Mark Meer doesn't exactly give a stirring performance as male Shepard. I think Cavill could bring a lot to the role based on what I've seen in The Tudors.
Mark Vanderloo may have been the model for the original John Shepard, but he doesn't really look that much like Shepard anymore. He's aging, and he tends to be on the skinny side. Plus, he's just some random model dude, who knows if he can even act? I'm guessing the answer would be 'no'.

Sam is a decent actor. My point of the post was how you changed your stance mid stream. You claimed you wanted a skilled actor but then said you'd be fine with someone so long as they were badass. Those two arent the same thing. I dont want Jackson in Mass Effect playing Sam Jackson which is all he would be doing. Mace Windu in the Star Wars movies is a complete joke. Lucas made the role for no other reason than to get Jackson involved and use his cult status to bring in another demographic of movie goers that arent normally what is seen as the typical Star Wars fan. I dont want that from a Mass Effect movie and I certain dont want a random character made just for him, because as it stands there are no main characters that fit a role he could play.
Its possible the story will be set before the events of the games, maybe during the first contact war for example. Shepard may not even be in the movie . Personally I dont know what I would prefer. A movie adding to the ME universe, or one that that retells the story the we've come to love on the big screen.
Mark Vanderloo is a Dutch male model... he's not an actor... he was picked by Bioware as the face of male Shep for his facial features.. not his non existent acting abilities (that's not a crack at him... he's not an actor, hence no ability).
Meer, if anything, would be more qualified than Vanderloo.. though even he might be a poor choice since voice acting is nothing at all like cinema acting.

Exactly. It's like Mass Effect and everyone's custom Shepards are some holy 'not to be touched or contradicted' material.
Well guess what - its already been done so with ALL of the promotional material. There is a default Shepard, and I think this forum should realize this.
and films are made as adeptations of original content all the time. That will likely happen with this. ME1 has a great structure for a movie anyway, like ME2 has a great structure for a tv series (check out videos from here - yay!). I seriously play the main story of ME1 with friends around (skipping all of the non-story sidequests, but doing Cerberus ones for sure) like its a long film that they can participate in, and have been playing a fresh ME2 playthrough now, doing only 2 main story missions every evening. It feels like watching my favorite show

He doesn't have the appearance nor the stature. I'd love for an unknown - and it can be justified by using celebs in other role, and Legendary Pictures high production values otherwise. Hell, I'd love for a Mass Effect film series to put a *talented* unknown up to the public - like with District 9 and Inglorious Basterds.
