Better that than Garrus dying, darn it! (Besides, if a direct hit from a rocket can't kill our favorite turian, then seriously, what can?)

Can turians cry? Probably not like we do.  They certainly seem to feel emotions that humans are familiar with, but I doubt we'd see it happen, given how their eyes are sitting in their heads.  

Regarding funerals:  yeah, it sure looks like we'll be seeing at least one in ME3, but if they only acknowledge spirits over what we know as deities, they will probably look a lot different than what we're used to.  That said, I'd agree that they would probably be tied in to the military quite a bit (given how their society is constructed).
