Depends on which style you want:
Weapon and Sheild is the perfect style for tanks
Two Handed until later in the game is harder to use, but filling that tree plus using Haste, and Gear that ramps up attack is needed. TH is slower but the tree is much more devestaing when unlocked.
TH turns you into monsterous assaulter who can devestate mobs
WS makes you invulnerable practically, who can effectivly solo a boss, or hold agro for your party.

To each his own, my latest warrior mixes both to great effect.

I opt for the 2handers sheer power and CC capabilities which sword/shield lacks. While SS does have impressive single target utility, it doesn't compare to the passives and actives 2H wields. Their stun immunity is amazing and shines from level one till end game. While they do lack the mitigation of the SS, their knock backs and stuns simply prevents damage outright. As I mentioned on another post, my Alistair is tanking via 2H with way better results than all my previous Nightmare runs. Haste is only required if you don't plan to talent spam.

A str based Champion/Berserker S&S character is very strong. Solid defense and solid attack/dmg. He does lag behind the other two melee classes: 2 Hand and Dual Weld mainly due to a lack of AOE attacks. But he is very durable.

In my current playthrough using four melee Warriors the Str S&S lags behind everyone else in total dmg consistenly. But he is still competitive, and he has a nice arsenal of three single target stuns/knockdowns. Have him keep the Boss busy while the rest of the team kills of his minions. But don't waste your time going past 26 dex, cause it will really hurt your knockdown/stun chances.

Pfft.

Which is better, airplanes or submarines ?

Depends upon what you want to do. Travel fast ? Airplanes. Explore underwater ? Submarines.

Sword + Shield is tank. Go Templar, Templar Armor (+40% spell resistance, cant argue with that one), and high Dex after you managed to meet the needs for best armor (Strength 42). There it is, your insanely good damage absorber. At a certain point, you will want to go for Daggers on them, though, for better damage.

Twohanded is something like the worse Dualweapon in dps, but they get more crowd control stuff and they can don a massive armor any time and start tanking special single opponents that stun, to which Twohanded can be immune extremely early. While their Armor rating can be maxed easily, their defense is lousy and stays this way. So for everyday crap, the Shield tank is going to be much superior, because they dont get hit in the first place.

Well after playing both it really comes down to convience, one my sns character I dont know how many times I wished I could AoE and on my twohander I dont know how many times I wished I could take a hit easier. You can compromise very well I discovered, a Str based SnS build can be very rewarding. You only need Dex to be 26 min, 32 max for shield and put all other points in Str. Once you get to the higher numbers its quite amazing I was easily doing twice or more damage then my tank dex build while still having plenty of survivability. You can absolutly murder nightmare solo with a Str based SnS build with Cailens Armor and Maric sword and shield. I admit to using the templar comander armor for several situations though.
