This is meant to be the gameplay discussion forum and has been that way
since the release of ME2, why all of a sudden have the character fan
threads moved here? These are two completely different communities and
this move doesn't really benefit either. Could a dev post an explanation
or some kind of announcement at least?

The character threads were moved due to many requests and a desire to keep the Storyline forum clear of spoilers and some clutter. Many complained that the numerous threads were preventing actual discussion of storyline topics. So we moved them here since character discussion is a part of this forum.
