So yeah, I can't decide. Rogue or warrior, I think I would enjoy either one. According to
the strat guide, it favors 2h as a slightly better DPS. The way I look
at it, if I dual wield, wouldn't I be better as a rogue? I know I
couldn't wear as heavy armor, but still...when I think dual wield, I
think rogue...plus, they get backstab. Ultimately, what I want to do is
cause a ton of melee DPS; I want nothing to do with ranged. What are
some of your thoughts?

Curse this game and all the ways you can play 3 friggin classes!

Personally, i tried a 2h warrior and dual wield rogue before i played my dual wield warrior. ANd my dual wield warrior is superior in almost every way to both.

In my experiences, 2h warrior swing to slow and miss constantly.

With my rogue if i even got targeted i would pretty much have my damage reduced to **** because i couldnt back stab and i just got flopped.

With my dual wield warrior i pretty much can 2 shot things with dual wield sleep and flurry.

In my opinion. I favor a dual wield warrior.

Why could you not backstab?

You have to be behind the target to backstab, or flanking the target as DA:O says.

When you have aggro you can't backstab.

So I guess I'm missing something. Is your tank not taking aggro for you to backstab?

Most of the time no. They dont always hold all 20 of the mobs

Then go after the mobs that ARE attacking him... If a mob turns to you before its dead, stun and finish him off, switch to a different target, or run back a little and usually it will ignore you if your tank is doing enough damage and has +aggro skill on. Or you could have your mage drop a disable on the target that has turned to you so you can continue to backstab it, or have your tank stun it for you, etc, etc, etc (you really need the skill that gives you auto-backstabs any time a target is disabled, it works wonders). My dual wield rogue performs backstabs on about 80-90% of all attacks by using positioning and disables, and for those instances where a backstab just isn't going to happen, I use my AOE talents to finish the enemy off and nab some collateral damage in the process.

Thats not to say a 2h warrior wont out-dps you, I really couldn't compare them since I've not made a 2h warrior nor used one in my party at any time, but really theres no excuse for you to not be backstabbing pretty much every hit on a rogue.

In my opinion its pointless to play a Melee DPS in this game, I've tryed and I enjoy them - a 2h Warrior can do massive damage if you spec him right, even over a dual wielding warrior - but after getting Shale in the Party I found that any Melee DPS after him was pointless. Shale is the best Melee DPS in the game hands down. If you're going to play a Warrior make him a Tank. They still do decent DPS and they have high survivability. Of course if you don't use Shale, or don't even have that content, then become a 2h warrior (Spec right) and spec Alistar right to be the group tank.

Take the talent that allows for backstabs when your target is stunned, you should have enough stuns to make use of this. You can always use paralyze runes to increase the amount of stuns.

They both have their advantages and disadvantages. 2 hander is better imo overall though because of the immunity to stun and knockdown. There is a reason why only warriors get access to the two talent trees that provide kd immunity (i.e boss fights). This is huge in boss fights and every fight that is genuinely tough(ie has a lot of stunning and kd). Dual wielders have more dps but that doesn't help if you're stunned or kd'ed. Hell the most annoying part about playing dual wield is not the single target damage which is great or the aoe burst dps, it's the fact you can get stunned by every run of the mill enemy with dirty fighting.

2H is more for utility than anything else. DW is more about speed and pure damage.

In terms of DPS a late game rogue can dominate in DPS provided he has a good tank.

Nothing prevents you from dumping two points in the tree to get Indomitable. Does it require a 2H to activate?

Go Dual Wield warrior, you'll have fun, can off-tank and you don't need to worry about flanking etc... or even aggro as much. ^_^

Well that's freakin' retarded. Why in the hell would you need a 2-hander to be immune to stuns and knockdowns?! hahah Oh well.

All of them heve their ups and downs, but that is what makes this game fun, try to combine them all in 1 group and u are set, for example, say u have a mage or rogue as main char, get 2 warriors and 1 mage/rogue in your group, each with a different spec,(like Alistair and Sten) and try them out together. works fine.

1 of the things i think abour when making a char is not just "what will i play" but what will be the best talent spec i can play without messing up the rest?

and with the respec mod, i can always change it again when it does't work, better then starting over again.. since after the 3rd go things get a little to boring(altrough the fights are still fun!)
