Hey all,

I'm just trying to figure out if there's an atmosphere setting that allows us to create a starry night.  I don't remember seeing one in the game, but my hope is that I'm just not remembering.

If there's no ready made way, does anyone know if theres a way to edit a .dds texture which can be applied to the whole sky?  I know there's a texture for the sun/moon, but can the sky be textured?

Thanks a lot,

Alex

You can select different skyboxes in the atmosphere settings but they dont change the actual sky texture. If you can somehow find where/what those skybox files are maybe they can be modified.

I guess you could use the VFX editor to make stars?

Chances are the VFX would be out of display range if you wanted it big/far enough to look like stars.

Would love to know this too. Having to cover the nightsky in a layer of cloud for now but I'd much rather a clear sky full of stars.

Looking in textures.erf I found a couple files named sb03_ which I guess would stand for SkyBox.

sb03_front and sb03_back are very tiny textures, most likely used as the base for the skybox, which is then further modified via other non-texture means (hence why you can change the color of the sky at will in the toolset).

However the cloud textures are there as well (sb03_bcloud and sb03_cloud). You could always try to paint stars on there and make the rest transparent (Alpha channel), then see how your sky looks with those 'clouds' (drop the modded texture in your override folder). I don't think that would really work though since the clouds move and im not sure you can control it.

That would also replace the clouds for all your levels with stars which is not ideal. Ultimately we would need to find a way to create an entirely new skybox.

Pretty sure you can control cloud animation speed in the atmosphere settings. The main question is, can you get the game to look at two different sets of cloud textures, so you can have clouds and stars. Maybe messing around with the different skybox choices will bear some fruit. Will experiment with this line of thought. Thanks, Kilrogg!

The clouds are two different textures to start with (there are two layers), so if you only change one you should still have clouds.

Also I found the skyboxes, they are actually meshes in the modelmeshdata.erf with prefix sb_. You may be able to create a new one and assign it a new texture.
