Hello Fellow Mass Effect fans,
I'm currently playing Mass Effect 2 as a Sentinel on Insanity and I'm thinking about the evolution of Tech Armor power.
What evolution do you suggest: Assault armor or Power Armor.
The assault armor seems to have interesting features: increased energy pulse and damage alongside with a shield boost once destroyed.
However the Power armor grants a greater shield strength and a bonus to weapons and powers' damage.
What do you suggest?
Thank You.
Sentinel's Tech Armor: Assault armor or Power armor?

I went with Assault armor. I feel better having that extra cushion when my shields go down. I'm using maxed warp ammo and the Visor (can't recall the name) so i have about 5% more power damage.

I went with Assault Armor, it's really nice when you've got enemies in your face and they get momentarily stunned or knocked on their asses.

People have been very successful with both, I guess it depends on what kind of Sentinel you want to build.
Caster Sentinels typically go for Power Armor, theory being that it lasting longer prevents the need for it's reuse, freeing cooldown for the Sentinel's other abilities.
The more aggressive Assault Sentinels obviously take Assault Armor, charge into enemy hordes, let the pulse wave of their destroyed Armor knock everything down, and mop up with the Shotgun acquired from the Collector Ship mission.
With all that being said, I personally would still always take Assault Armor, even when building a Caster Sentinel. Power Armor gives a 100% boost to shields, Assault Armor provides a 75% boost to shields and then upon detonation provides an instant 50% boost to shields. It would seem that Power Armor doesn't really do much more than Assault Armor, and at least Assault Armor will floor any nearby enemies if it does get taken down. I'd prefer to build a flexible Sentinel, I don't see any reason why not build a good Caster and still give him both Assault Armor and Shotgun to get the best of both worlds. Many standard Assault Sentinel divert points to an Ammo Bonus Power whereas Caster take a spell, but for me there are plenty of teammates that can provide Squad Ammo Powers.

I've been taking Armor Piercing Rounds, with a Shotgun.

The problem with power armor is that the main perks (being the additional shield strength and the power damage bonus) can both be had through researching upgrades. Assault armor gives you something you'll otherwise not have which is essentially unrivaled survivability, forcing the enemy to down your shields twice. Having an emergency auto-triggered AoE attack also helps, even for defensive style sentinels. I would take assault armor for every single sentinel build you can make.

I'm the only one who likes Power Armor, eh? Fair enough.
The main kicker for the power armor is the +15% power damage bonus. That is a lot of power damage bonus, considering tech armor will almost always be up.
Assault Armor's bonus is that the shields come back up when they're down, and a more powerful, Dr. Manhattan-like shockwave emerges when they go down.
If you feel like charging in with the Sentinel with AP rounds and a shotgun then Assault Armor is obviously better. But I personally am a power-spamming ranged Sentinel who likes to use Warp/Overload behind the safety of cover. My shields don't go down a ton, and if they do, I still do get the shockwave effect...just not as powerful.
I'd go Assault Armor in certain circumstances, if this is your subsequent playthrough, you should have a ton of Element Zero lying around just for adjusting. Missions like the Reaper IFF are suited to Assault Armor more...but in serious ranged combat against Collectors or humanoids, I still prefer the Power Armor.

Assault Armor all the way on insanity. Now matter how many shields you have, the shield can go down quickly. I'd rather have the explosion and the 50% shield regeneration when it does. Assault armor's pulse stuns and damages or knocks down opponents whose defenses you manged to strip 18M away. Thats damn good.
Power Armor gives you the damage bonus, but it's not that big a deal. When you upgraded guardian and get the tech cooldown, the cooldown for tech armor is 6 seconds. If you're a caster, and your armor goes down in a fight, you could have lobbed 2 warps or 2 overloads during that time instead of putting up another tech armor.
Thats why I find assault more useful. it does more things and gives more protection overall.

I liked assault armor too. Either way on insanity as has been said, the shields still go down quick, and it can be a lifesaver against certain enemies like Krogan or the super-geth that always tries to close in on you.

Not the only one.
My first run with the sentinel, I used Power Armor and passive was Raider (another +15 power damage). That worked really nice.
Now I'm starting a new run and I'll try Assault Armor and Guardian, just to play it differently.

Assault armor will keep you from dying more than once, trust me.

Use Power armor, the Blood dragon armor and pick the Raider talent for a whole +45% to power damage, which is big seeing as that is what the sentinel use the most. Also if you pick an ammo power (i usually pick ap ammo) you also get the bonus, for squad ap ammo it increases from 50% extr damage to 72,5% extra damage.

Rather have the extra 10% cooldown guardian gives you than raider. That saves me 1.2 seconds on an armor recharge and 0.6 seconds on a warp. Thats pretty significant. Anyway, thats just my preference. There isn't a perfect build.

I've liked the videos I've seen of Assault, it's almost like watchin the nuke go down, but as I played caster senti I stayed with power armour.

Power armor with Raider... 30% power damage bonus. Add to that the up to 60% you get with tech/biotic upgrades and a as much as 13% with armor upgrades or 15% with dragon armor and you're more than doubling your damage for casting.
In addition you get 20% cooldown with upgrades and another 20% cooldown with the power armor...So, I'm more than happy to gain double the power damamge and sacrifice 10% cooldown to achieve it. What is 10% to reapplying armor? like 1 or 2 seconds? Nothing compared to what Reave does with this combo, imho.
