Wynne. I actually liked until I started to have conversations with her. I hate her preaching and telling me how I should do my job, and she's the only companion who literally made me yell "shut up!" at my monitor.

As for NPC's, it has to be Isolde by FAR. I hated her selfishness and self-justification, and I decided to kill Connor on my first playthrough just to get back at her and make her suffer. And that accent... oh God..

Isolde, obviously. You can't even really use the excuse "she did it for Connor," no she sought out an apostate because having a mage son was embarassing to her. Of course, the fact that so many people hate her probably means Bioware was successful with her character.

Arl Howe, especially for a Human Noble. But even for a regular warden, he's the one who hires a Crow to kill you, sets up the bounties on Warden sympathizers, and is totally unrepentant. If I recall, his dying words were something about "deserving more." Granted, I really ought to expect that sort of thing in a character voiced by Tim Curry.

Morrigan. I don't really mind her character concept, but she takes survival of the fittest too far. Even the strong need allies, and those mages she holds in such disdain are the strongest we'll find. I just really can't take her anywhere.

Oghren. I was so glad to get rid of him after the Deep Roads, even if I can't explain why I hated him so much. Well, the 2-handed berserker thing didn't help his case.

Cailan. I don't hate him, exactly, but I spent the entire game cleaning up his mess. Loghain may have withdrawn from a hopeless battle (and used the Grey Warden trap as an excuse he felt no one could disprove), but it's because Cailan insisted on fighting it anyways. More than any one else, I hold Cailan responsible for the disaster of Ostigar. And in my only playthrough that's gotten to the Landsmeet so far, Loghain died for his crimes.

EDIT: On Isolde though, I just realized something. She's supposedly really religious, and that's why she would be embarassed that her son was a mage. But if so, wouldn't seeking out an apostate, someone who is *not* bound by the Chant of Light and possibly violates it openly like Jowen did to teach her son even worse?  Something doesn't add up there.

Making Stuff Up Here:

I see Isolde's motivation (in my own little made up universe) as this:

1) She's given in marriage to a much older man for political reasons (Alistair says the Arl loves her not vice versa, if I am not mistaken);
2) She doesn't love her husband, but she's a religious, dutiful wife, etc., etc.
3)  When her son is born she places all her love, hopes and dreams into him to make her loveless marriage tolerable (plus she has a thing for her brother-in-law but can't act on it).
4) She finds out her son is a mage in the bud and she goes ballistic emotionally.  The only thing keeping her afloat mentally and emotionally is her investment in her kid (it's all for him).
5) Knowing that he will be taken away and will never, ever be the ARL, she goes nutso and does anything, ANYTHING, to hide his magic ability.  At that point, she's fighting for her own emotional and psychological survival -- to heck with everyone else.

It doesn't make me like the B**** any better, but I can at least understand where she's coming from.

At least in my little DA:O universe Image IPB

P.S. I like her only a little more than Arl Howe whom I would wish to kick in the head a couple of times while he's down on the ground but still alive.

It depends on my Warden. Since I actually ROLE PLAY my characters, taking into account their backgrounds, I find that the party members to choose from can compliment a particular Warden nicely. If I'm playing a jaded or smart ass character, that's how s/he treats the party members, NPCs and selects missions. On the whole, though, I found Sten to be in serious need of some additional background and participation, while Oghren, while lovable at times, is SERIOUSLY one-dimensional. NPCs I can't stand are basically all the characters who are blatantly racist, from Nan to the Tevinter slavers.

Leliana annoys the crap out of me sometimes with her racism. I play a lot of elves, and I get bloody sick of the, "but elves live such wonderful lives as virtual slaves in Orlais," conversation. My Dalish elf got a bit snarky with her the last time I heard it, only to get sanctimony back. Then, the next thing you know, she's hitting on said elf! Probably because of the mythical dexterous elven nimblefingers. Urgh. Her conversation about the Maker when you bring the wounded elf back to the Dalish is quite nauseating as well. That said, I don't "hate" her, I just consider her that hopeless third cousin who you pat on the head and say, "I understand, dear," and then leave in the corner (er... camp) during a family reunion. I took a little too much pleasure at her discomfort in front of the Guardian the only time I brought her along to get the Sacred Ashes.

Alistair's hints of racism kind of annoy me too, though I actually adore him as a "buddy."  The comments in the Alienage and about the halla raise my hackles.

Can't stand Isolde and her complete lack of caring for anyone but herself and Connor, even her own brother-in-law. Howe was just too cartoon-evil to hate, but he's fun to carve up anyway.  I *loathe* Swiftrunner.  Really loathe him.  The fact that he's willing to rip my Warden to pieces just to kill Zathrian after I've done what the werewolves ask makes me want to whip out my dagger and do a little slashy-slashy.  Too bad the dialog doesn't let you.

Well, it depends on each playhrough and the Warden I'm roleplaying as. From a non Roleplay perspective however I do have companions and characters I hate and love, which makes it all the more interesting to Roleplay a Warden that goes against how I feel.

For NPCs, the winner is Howe. I might be a little biased seeing as my favourite origin is Human Noble, but I just can't stand that lying, backstabbing little snake. Mind you, I love Tim Curry, so having him as the voice of Howe was just too perfect. Honestly, I wish I could do even more to Howe. Death is too good for that bastard. By the time I were through he'd be begging for it.

*Coughs*

For companions, I personally hate Leliana. She grates on my nerves with her constant Maker babble. I dislike religious zealots. Oh, and her obsession with shoes. I dislike girly-girls too, so it's a lose/lose for me when it comes to Leliana. When I played my Dalish S&S Warden who found faith in both the Dalish gods and the Maker, and romanced Leliana... let's just say that by the end of the game she was my least favourite Warden, but it was a fun experiance. Was also hard as hell to keep her in character.

Zevran. I really don't like that guy. He gives me the creeps. I originally intended to do all four romances if only for the achievements, though to date I still haven't romanced Zev. Probably never will.
I haven't even let him in my party since my first playthrough. I always either kill him or send him packing, depending on how ruthless my current character is.

I hate Anora.

Her whole I'd make a strong leader and I have been running the country from the sidelines for years shtick.  Her cowardice is obvious...I kill an entire house to free her from the clutches of Howe whom I would have killed anyway after what he did to my family and she flip flops.

Landsmeet, no surprise she flip flops again and stands up for her father the guy who handed her over to Howe in the first place.

Strong leader indeed she's the queen the king is dead and she lets her father and Howe run the place while getting herself locked up.

The only thing she was leading before I came in the picture was jack and sh** and jack left town.  My only regret is not being able to become king and having her summarily executed.  Turnabout is fair play.

Edit:

Oh and another thing what sorta monarch lets a traitor who quit the field of battle leaving the king to fend for himself return home in the first place.  Knowledge of her father's actions appear to be common place her stance on the matter only serves to reinforce her weakness of character.

Looking back at it she's the only character that really irked me cause she is totally full of it.

The more I play, the more characters I dislike. It's like Shale says: Familiarity breeds contempt.

I used to dislike Alistair but if you harden him he's way more tolerable. He'll actually admit that he might make a better ruler than Anora(which makes sense considering her inability to stand up to her father has the country in ruin).

I really can't stand Wynne though. She always disapproves when my warden wants a little piece on the side(sleeping with them boosts their stats!). Every playthrough I just bring Morrigan along and agree with her when she says the Mages in the circle don't deserve to live. That'll prompt Wynne to attack

Oghren's boring.

Sten's more interesting, but not by much.

Wynne's bloody handy as a healer, but seriously tedious to talk to.

Wow, lots of Wynne hate. I must be one of the few who like her, as a whole, but can see where her unwanted advice would be annoying for some.

Aside from role-playing and the characters my Warden likes/hates varying based on that, I am personally annoyed by the "yellers" at this point. So, while I don't really hate Isolde, per se, the screeching banshee pitch drives me crazy. "Who iz deez WOMAN Teeeeghan!" makes me wanna smack her. On a related note, Leliana's voice drives me batty, too. I have nothing against the girl, but just... find it hard to sit through her stories just to get +2 approval. lol Maybe it's the Loghain fan in me, but the Orlesian accents make my dagger fingers twitchy...

But most annoying at the moment is the "Doomsayer" in Redcliffe after you save the village. Don't know why it took me this many playthroughs to notice him, considering he's right by the smithy screaming at the top of his lungs about death and damnation, but I just found him last night. And my current character being a goodly sort, killing him -- though an option -- wouldn't be in-character. But everytime I tell him he ought to go yell over there... far away... like, at the edge of the village... yup, just keep walking, you're almost there... dude ends up right back next to the smithy. *facepalm* I'm waiting for the option of sending him to go scream at the edge of the dock, so I can non-chalantly give him a little push.

Just started playing last week, trying to find a fun PC to play through trial and error. That being said, I like Morrigan's cynical, witty banter with Alistair, but yesterday she mouthed off to my dog. Takes a real bi*** to pick on the dog. Need to see about having her shapeshift into a Beef Bone.

Sten. Granted I've not used him much at all, but his attitude is so ****ty I never got far with him. He doesn't trust you, he's at all times dead serious and just seems displeased with everything. Go and kill some more children and women if going with me sucks, dude.

His "conversation" with dog is fun though.

Prolly Morrigan and Wynne. Even though I romance Morrigan in all my playthroughs, she is a ****, who starts fights with all your LI. She only loved, because it felt convienent.

Wynne for all her nagging, and grow up convos.

Gotta go with the Anora haters - she is such a covert, self-serving, arrogant, opportunistic wench. She plays all airy-fairy sweetness to get your support for Landsmeet then runs to daddy (who is also on my list but not as high) if you don't like her enough to let her keep the throne. She has "rights to the throne" by marriage alone, yet attempts to make you feel she deserves to stay there - PLEASE. The Codex leads you to believe that she was the one in touch with the Orlesians while Cailan was king but then she cuts all ties because daddy says so - like I said, an opportunist at best and totally unreliable in truth. And, yes, Howe comes in a VERY close second for much the same reasons.

I love all the characters, even when I hate them, because I actually do hate some of them. I think the NPCs in this game are some of the best ever.

I hate Wynne (like killing darkspawn with your nagging grandma), Oghren is a drunken lout, Sten is as pleasant as a bad rash, Leliana and her "vision" can get on my nerves, Morrigan is... well , Morrigan, Shale refers to you as "it", Zev can be an odd combination of slick and creepy, Allistair needs to man up... I guess the only one I like 100% of the time is my dog.

But in the end I love all of them and think they are really well done... warts and all.

He's deadpan, not serious. He's actually mocking you for a fair portion of his dialog. Sten is pretty funny once you get to know him.
