Sten's quotes are the best:

Congratulations you have found a waste bin.

If you wish to do batle with wit I suggest you arm yourself first

Yes, Our land has no such thing this should be remedied. (on cookies)

What is this flirting? Use the common tounge.

If it didnt work the first time, why would you think it would the second time.

IT appears that the man you loved is dead, it looks like you could have chosen better

Oghern and Sten Breaking into Fort Drakon made me litterally hurt my sides, or Sten with Dog.

Anything Sten says is either cool or funny! He is a total Bro to my HN 2Hander!

Getting away from the Sten Porn Fanfic (ack), I'll chime in as another Sten fan. Another poster hit the nail on the head earlier; Sten is a great alternate mentor figure in the game, or at least a flawed big brother type. His lines on the nature of Duty are some of my favorite writing in the game, as short as they are.

He also sets up a future Honorable Enemy relationship with the Qunari for a possible DA sequel or expansion.

I really like Sten. I don't think there is anything not to like about him personally. I like the dialog between him and Morrigan.

The two things that bothered me about him at the beggining:
- He killed an entire farmhold, including children
- He always has the same face expression, either when he eats, drinks, talks, kills, sleeps etc. I bet he would have the same face expression when he would jump off a cliff.

PC: Tell me about qunari love life please.

Sten: No

PC: Why not?

Sten: it is of no interest to you. You people have strange ways of defining love.

PC: And you don't?

Sten: I think it is time we moved on.

PC: Let's go.

Haven't you seen him smile? He smiled for my Warden.

Yea, but that was in the end only. Makes you appreciate it.

"Sten, why don't you ever smile?"

"Smiling requires the use of every muscle in my body. It is a strainful process that takes weeks to accomplish."

"You must be joking."

"The last part of our test to see if I and my brothers were ready to become warriors was to smile for more then 5 seconds. Many died in the attempt."

"Right. Moving on."

Yes it certainly does. I feel so proud knowing I earned that smile from him. Too bad he had to return to Seheron, I'd love to see if I could coax more smiles out of him.

No matter what type of character I play, I always end up maxing Sten's approval, with tons of his gifts left over.

True but with all of my Wardens they end up staying behind for some reason, whether for romance or for royalty or whatever. One of these days there will be one that goes with him to Seheron.

Try romancing Zevran or Leliana. They'll go with you.

The epilogue doesn't say anything about Sten if you decide to travel with him, does it?

I'm pretty sure it's the same deal with Zevran(no romance). You just get the dialogue at the coronation but the epilogue states that everyone scattered to the four winds.

As much as I love Leliana and Zevran I respect Sten too much to torture him with them. Either he gets persistant 'softie!' teasings from Leliana or questions about the Qunari sex act from Zevran or constant questions about him and the Qunari from the both of them. Truly the only people Sten would respect enough to handle are Dog, Shale, and the Warden.

Sten only gets an epilogue if you died slaying the Arch Demon and he actually approved of you . . . and the epilogue made me tear up.

That's kind of immersion-breaking, though, as if you play as a US dwarf then you get the same epilogue but there ARE no ashes for him to bow to...

Okay . . . where does this idea come from that Sten's approval is hard to get? Now, I cheat a bit because by this point I know all the right dialogue options, but without even leaving your party camp after Lothering, you can get insane approval bumps solely through dialogue. I swear, I got like +27 approval from a single conversation. I did Redcliffe as my second main quest, without doing -any- post-Lothering side quests, and got his approval to maximum without use of any gifts except his sword.

Actually I am not. Sten's mannerisms and temperament match my own. I could really relate to him. Not too mention his dissappointment in the lack of cake.

He led my party in injury count simply for his bada**ness. I gave him the Legion of the Dead armour just to really give him that extra flair for awesomeness. Why waste it on a dwarf? Sten is the size of 2 dwarves.

Also it was easy for me to rapidly increase his approval rating since, as I said earlier, we related :D

I think Sten is a very good character and he is even more funney than Alistair in my opinion also I like the fact that he gets a huge strength boost when you get his approval up.

(Husband posting)

I like Sten, but he's got a number big drawbacks, that really make it hard to use him as a main character.

1) His - approvals are very inconvenient (especially for a new player that may be role playing as a traditional FRPG hero/ heroine.

2) His two handed Sword is way slow and can miss a lot, especially if your a new player and for some reason haven't got around to taking precse striking.

3) He's not a mandatory or specially featured character.  (There isn't a specific dungeon or plot that makes or suggests you take him unlike their is with character's like Allistair at the Landsmeet, Oghren in the Deep roards etc..

4) His basic role in the party is redundant, essentially it can be done other characters that possess other needed skills.   (lock picking, shield tanking etc.)

5) His personal quest is less obvious that other characters.

when you add all this stuff up I find I tend to leave him at camp even though I like him and the different twists he brings to the game.   But in playing the game 7 months, I have yet to have him as a main questing character because of all the hoops to jump through.    In future, I do intend to have him as the main warrior of the group, because I like to try to explore new plot lines etc. when it comes to replaying the game to keep things fresh, but unlike the other character's I find I need to go out of my way at thinking things through in order to use him and do affectively.

Any conversation in particular?  I just get his approval up through choices and gifts.
