There are those that are positively brilliant, one shots that has excellent character growth, humor fics (though most are unintentionally such) and then of course the odd romance.
On the topic of sten though, good fanfiction on the guy is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I despise the fiction written on him. They're all self indulgent annoyances that drive me up the walls.
OOC's that turn is heart.
OOC's that put him on his place
And the worst is of course 'The Sten and the Warden' in my life have I never cringed so much in one chapter. It's a lacking, it's self indulgent, the theories are sub par, though it is well written, but poor ideas set with a feeble romance that seems illogical and, quite frankly a bit cheesy for my taste makes it a horrible read on the whole.
And the theory on why the Qunari fear the mages.... just dumb.
But sten as a character?
I LOVE HIM TOO BLEEDING BITS!
Just wish the fanart and fanfiction would take it up a notch.

I like pestering Mary about the lack of a Sten romance. She keeps telling me it's already in there.
he is easily my favorite character. :3

It can be done pretty reasonably by doing it alongside the main quest. I mean, the stop at Lake Calenhad can happen either because you're gullible and was sent here on the Urn trail, or just to restock lyrium supply on the way from Denerim to Orzammar. Then the Orzammar spot, well you pretty much have to visit that city at some point. Then the final spot is simply returning to Eamon with all treaties arranged.Sarah1281 wrote...
Getting Sten's sword back in a fanfic does take some planning, though, because they can't just go straight from Lake Calenhad to the Frostback Mountains to Redcliffe on a mad quest to find a sword due to time constraints.
It's how it happened in my game pretty much. I didn't go out of the way just to find that sword, the places that would provide some info about it merely happened to be places i had to visit anyway for more important reasons.

maybe
But I'm sorry that's how I imagine Sten, I know some people are going to give me nasty glares for that but Sten has a personality of a serious adult cat.

Especially the part of 'doesn't like changes' I think that is a character trait I hadn't spied in him and find it rather intriguing.
Gives me and idea for a horrible fanfic to say the least

Sten...Cat...Sten cat....Now that I think about it Sten is like a cat I know, always staring at me disapprovingly. He also perks to attention everytime he sees someone with confectionaries. Sometimes that cat really freaks me out...

Woah now, careful with that fanfic. Great if it's great, but we don't want some repeats of past ones now do we?

and I agree completely with ya Sarah *hands Sarah cookies and ale*
and not all fanfiction sucks; it all depends on the user....I have to be honest Sten's love for cookies is one reason why I adore the guy
favorite type is double chocolate chip
everyone wants him to be manly man Krato's but I don't I want my friend and cookie comrad Sten, at least Sten smiles.
