God help us if someone named a child Boo, after Balder's Gate 2.
My view, nope i wouldn't also.

I can only imagine if they had twins or two boys. The other could be Minsc.

I reckon Alyx is a lovely girls name, if I ever have a girl I would love to name her that. Proof that some game names are good.

I'd be all for it if the name was good, so long as it's not anything super outlandish and absolutely silly/embarrassing. In fact, a close friend of mine recently named her child after another friend's in-game character's name.

In Germany the Name "Shooter Manhattan" was officially approved and some poor sod somewhere here is actually named so.

Well it depends on the history of the name. They were either taken from real life mostly, or completely made up. For example: Since the creation of Dragon Age, Alistair means "Whiny emo cry baby.." So be careful..

There was a middle school about 30 minutes from where I live that had a group of siblings named after Star Wars characters.

Luke Skywalker <insert last name>, Princess Leia <insert last name>, and Han Solo <insert last name>

I forget the last name, and think it would be in bad taste to post it, but the above is what they were named.

Funny enough I ran into this topic. A friend of mine is naming his upcoming child after a certain female Resident Evil character. I wouldn't do it unless I had twin sons, and then I'd debate using Dante and Virgil from Devil May Cry 3, then laugh at myself for considering a stupid idea.

Jill? Claire?

Depends on the name. If it is something unique and tasteful, I'd say let's go with it.

If it's tacky, moronic, and ill-fitted for a child, then no. I'd have to slap some sense into him.

My closest cousins are name Eowyn and Arwen (LoTR charaters)
Sisters neghibors children are Luke, Dillion, and Matt I think. (Original 90210 males)
And this thread reminds me that I need to give my sister hell since she actually took the name I would want to give to a daughter if I ever had. She named my niece celes (FF6 character)

Yes OP it happens and unique/good names are subjective. No point worrying about it much. It is a 99% chance that no matter what a kid is named they will hate it and will be made fun of because of it.

Hehe, a friend of mine did name his firstborn after one ^_^ Used the Japanese spelling to make it less obvious. I thought it was incredibly sweet and she adores her name. Maybe she's glad she wasn't named after her grandmothers like her sister lol.

It does make her rather unique.

You should be honored your sis took a name you thought ofImage IPB.  Besides, there are plenty of Final Fantasy characters you can name children after:  Sephiroth, Gau, Quistis, Rinoa, Kimahri, Paine, or *cough* Lightning *shivers at the thought of anyone naming a child after a character from that game*.Image IPB

Aerie: "What do you think of the name 'Quayle'?"

Me: "Err... I don't think I want him called that."

But that said, I wouldn't be opposed to naming my future children after video game characters, provided they weren't overly popular or associated with negative connotations. As long as my partner was happy with the idea, of course.

I guess it would depend on the name, some are OK, but things like Canderous or Snow Villers are better on pets.

Side note, the local school here currently has two Raidens (Mortal Kombat).
