Heya - super randomly my DAO crashes with the Windows error msg "Dragons Age has stopped working so Windows has closed"... then looks to solution on web and cannot find. Thing is this doesn't happen at any particular interval i.e. after convo or intense graphics it just happens totally randomly. Used to happen only once every 2 hrs or so but has recently been happening more frequently e.g. after 20-25 mins which gets very annoying. Any ideas???
My comp:
Sony VAIO F1190X
Windows 7 Home Premium
i7-720QM 1.6Ghz Quad-core
GeForce GT 330M 1GB VRAM
4GB RAM DDR3 1333
500 GB 7200rpm
As you can see the spec is quite high and comp is brand new so really wasn't expecting any problems.... I saw there is a new GeForce driver but its not compatible with Sony VAIO computers yet.. ;-( Also I saw somewhere going back to v1.02 might make it go away?? Anyone have any advice??
Thanks!!

In Options > Video, turn off anti-alias and reduce Detail to Medium. See if that helps.

This is happening on my Windows 7 Sony Vaio as well. However, I didn't experience this problem at all in Origins. I'm only experiencing it in Awakening.
I don't think it's an issue of technical ability. My computer doesn't lag at all on high graphics settings even during the most intense fights, and then I'll just be walking around, and it won't lag at all but just immediately crash.
Edit: Actually, it may happen on Origins for me as well. I think it's a patch 1.03 issue, and I haven't played Origins since I got that patch.

Same Issue here using Win7 on Quad Core system and Raedon 1G video with 4G ram, 1TB HDD. Randomly crashes walikng, standing still, mid fight Origins,RTO, And Awakenings, and if luck hold Probably DSC as well. I am also getting empty loot windows on PC and PS3 still when they are not crashing, and since new patches both systems will show sparkling over corpses that are non lootable. more of annoyaces than anything. The main issue is even with all the patching both systems still randomly freeze and crash.I know PS3 tech rant for help is another forum thread just adding that I am having similar issues on 2 seperate systems after Awakenings and patches.

I don't mean to be annoying, but I am going to bump this thread especially since there is another user experiencing the same problem with the same kind of computer.
The crashes also seem to be getting more frequent for me. The weird thing is that they happen when nothing that should cause a crash is going on and the game generally doesn't lag beforehand. It just immediately crashes.
Could anyone tell me how to uninstall patch 1.03 if it's possible? I think that's what's causing the problem. Also, will Awakening run without patch 1.03?

Let me just say that this is not a good game to be playing on laptops. If you do want to play it on a laptop, your best bet is to have the graphics detail and texture settings at their lowest possible settings so you don't overheat the graphics card. Laptops are notorious for that.

I don't think it's a heat or overclocking issue. It never lags and I don't think it's getting hot at all, and these crashes happen when the graphics aren't too intensive.
It also only started happening after I installed Awakening and Patch 1.03.

Heat wont cause lag anyway......heat will cause a crash of the application that is overloading the cpu....
And laptops, despite the cpu being more than capable iof running the game, do not have the best ventilation, nor do they have very good thermal paste applied from new (thye are not gaming machines)...
As for when it happens....not really an issue, DA is notoriously resource heavy, so itsnot really using any more resources in a huge fight than it is when your walking around.....
Do a test for me please...place your lappy on 4 stands (each corner) with a fan under it or blowing alongside it....
I bet you the problem vanishes....

Okay. I'm sort of a tech-noob, so sorry. I think my dad actually has a laptop cooling pad, so I'll try playing on that sometime soon and see if that helps.

Well.. TBH, I think you are SOL because if I remember correctly, patch 1.03 is a requirement for Awakening.. 1.03 is also well known for crashing systems. I've never experienced it, but many many others have. Here is the thread for the bugs.
EDIT: The overheating idea was for the crashes, not the lag. The lag would be more likely caused by an overworked CPU or a memory leak. But if the graphics card is getting too hot, it will crash the game.

I do hope that BioWare comes out with a new patch that is compatible with Awakening and fixes those problems. I think they're just spreading themselves too thin as of late: Origins came out in November of last year; Mass Effect 2 came out in January? February?; Awakening came out in March; Dragon Age 2 or something Dragon Age-related is seemingly coming out February of next year (according to the paper in Awakening's box); The Old Republic is coming out spring of next year; and Mass Effect 3 is supposed to come out next year too. I think between all of those, they're not giving themselves enough time to fix problems with their games that are already out.

Thanks, though BioWare didn't really provide much useful information in that thread other than confirming that a new patch is on the way.

Yea, we are all waiting patiently (well, some of us are) for an update on what fixes will be included. So far they have only listed those three, but they can only release so much info on it at once. Don't wanna get people's hopes up with something being listed, then it be pulled at the last minute.

Yeah.
Also, I may have found some drivers for my video card (Nvidia GeForce 210M) that Windows didn't detect. Maybe they'll help, too.
