It feels like Sis is a victim of cutting plot content from the game. Pity, really. Game is overall very short.

Not really since you only see more of certain people if you choose certain paths which is kinda stupid

How is that stupid? That's, precisely, the consequences of having choices.

Because characters that you feel are major only enter the scene once in some cases, and you never see them again even if they're treated like they're somehow major.

Example:  SIE.  I only interacted with her once, and yet throughout the rest of the game her name was mentioned and my chareacter acted like she was a real ally.  I should of run across SIE several more times, and there should of been more opportunity to interact with her.  Instead they throw another dozen characters at me who sometimes only leave the impression that they deserve more game time then they got.

Another example, on the opposite end of things, would be Sis.  I intereacted with Sis all of three times, and in the third it was just a cutscene.  Yet I SET OUT to have a close relationship with G22.

It's stupid because that leaves the character undeveloped and very bland.
Think Tali if you never saw her again after Freedom's Progress (let's say you never played ME1)
Or think Alistair and Wynne if you never saw them after Ostagar

While it appears that SIE might be a major character most people don't ever see her besides a single cutscene.
Same goes with Sis, good character concept but no development since I never saw outside of Moscow

They should have focused on giving characters more game time rather than introducing so many of them

Also you have no idea what happens to certain characters and whether they appear at the end or not is changed by only a very minor dialogue choice

Most people have no idea what happened to a major character (Westridge) and didn't get to kill another other major character (from Rome). Saying more will be spoilers

Depending on your choices some stuff are never revealed leaving plot holes. Even if you knew stuff about a character from dossiers or from talking to other characters you never get to ask that person whether it's true or not (Mina). You can ask them only if you choose another ending

Also Alpha Protocol's motivations are never understood if you choose certain minor choices

I just beat it, great game! It's kind of like Bioware games where you beat it and the first thing on your mind is "I want to play it again but this time I'm going to do things differently."
The conversation system is outstanding and the various abilities add a lot of depth to the gameplay.

Only problem is that there is a glitch which ocassionally causes the game to freeze when you die and it loads your last save point. Also, the AI is pretty weak.

Other than that I enjoyed this game and will continue to enjoy it.

I wish Sis were romancable.  I got my hopes up of there finally being a teen romance option...oh well.

Good job Obsidian.

I too loved this game, favorite part was the boss fight in Moscow. Guy kicked my ass so many times I almost put my controller through my TV screen. I have to say I've never fought a drug-lord with rock music playing in the backround. Unique fight to say the least.

It was in that fight that I discovered there was a sprint button.

Saw the romance scenes a couple of hours ago on Youtube... damn they were tame. Dragon Age is nothing compared to it.

That's the worst part of the game by far. I don't mind difficult fights I do mind completely unrealistic fights on an otherwise quite "realistic" game. Nobody survives five consecutive shotgun shots from one meter.
Turn up the radio by Autograph is cool though. It has been ages since I last listened to them.

So, just like real life. You don't always get every piece of information you'd like to have and you must go for it. Good, I like that.

Overall, I like it better than ME1 so far. The dialog system is precisely how I think they should go in ME3. Because in the real world, you dont have the option to sit there all day and think about what you're going to say.

I think AP isn't in the same league as BioWare games. It's a lot better than NWN1 and maybe better than JE but not as good as other BioWare games. I'm still not sure whether it's better than Bethesda's games

The dialogues are really great and funny and there are really great character concepts but the characters are poorly developed since we only see one scene of each (see previous post). If that was corrected as well as some gameplay issues it would have been better than ME1

I hate to say it, but AP is the only game (besides MGS) that I actually want to replay right after I've beaten it. IMO it's better than Bugsidian's previous games. I'm not really sure where I'd play it in my top RPGs list, but it's definitely between number 10 and 5

I just finished it and frankly, I want more...... honestly I do hope there is a sequel cause the potential is there, a lot of plot threads left open and there is an implication that they do want to continue.

With the bashing this game has gotten it's unclear, but overall this game is a lot better than most reviewers have described it as.

See my response at the top of this page. Plot holes are left only if you choose certain options. I managed to finish the game and cut all ties (killed ALL the bad guys and got full explanation on everything)

Here's what I did:

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

I did get a bit of information on motivations and such in my playthrough,  killed quite a few people, left some others alive that could help me.  Just want to see what happens next from the news stories during the credits.  Would also like to see if Thorton and the handler in my mission decide to team up or go freelance or something. ;)

SPOILERS:

I think you're forgetting that there's about 3 ways the ending could go: kill the bad guys, join them or take over their company

I'm seriously dissapointed in the gameplay mechanics. Half the time when I tried to sprint I went into cover and the camera went all crazy. That said it was an EPIC FREAKIN STORY. The only problem I had with the story was what's the deal with sis and the locket? I know about the St. George thing but they never explained it further like what does it actully mean to her, even when ***SPOILER*** she rescues you at Apha Protocol. Plus it would be cool if you could romance her, although you also never find out her age( I'm guessing 17-19?).

Just finished my first gameplay. My thoughts on the game so far:

Liked:
 - Dialogue system was brilliant.
 - Thorton was kind of dull, but he has his moments, especially when he comments on the objects in the safehouses ("Mike and Sean! F*ck yeah. With three exclaimation points" always cracks me up)
 - Choices that affected your gameplay to an extent. Can be improved, but it is on a good path
 - The reputation system. Worked great, but would've liked to have expanded the characters more.
 - I'll probably be in the minority that I liked the minigames. At first I found the Hacking games to be quite hard, but once you get used to it, it's pretty fun. But I love lockpicking out of all of them.
 - The characters. Steven Heck and Mina would be my favourite characters from AP.
 - I liked the stealth system. Sure it made the game easier, but I was fun knocking enemies out.
 - The grenades. It gave some form of strategy, and my way of winning is knocking grenades off the walls. Made me miss the grenades in ME1.

Disliked:
 - Game mechanics are a bit stiff sometimes, especially the crouching and sneaking around.
 - I found the pistol hard to use, since when I take headshots, it doesn't hit the target, but when I shoot at the body it does. Preferred the assault rifle with Subsonic Rounds.
 - Some underdeveloped characters (such as Sis and the leaving of Madison) and way too much emphasis upon other characters (SIE and Scarlet, wut?) I HATED SIE, but Scarlet was an okay character, would've liked her more if I stopped half-hoping she'll swear like a sailor (she's the same VO who did Jack. I went "That's Jack??" when I first saw her) I actually had a good impression of Darcy, but I felt knee-jerked when he was trying to kill me in the end.
 - Camera and mouse sensitivity is WAY OFF (since I'm playing PC) and sometimes when I turn the camera, it goes crazy.
 - Wished for more variety in handlers. Most of the time, it's Mina and the occasional ally. Wished that it was more balanced out. However, this is more of a personal desire rather than a dislike (since I liked Mina)
 - Felt too many plot holes in this playthrough. I know the purpose to leave the plotholes is to make people do replays, but there were too MANY plotholes.
 - Fastforwarding feature when wanting to skip lines really irked me. I preferred to skip lines, rather than character's lines.

So overall, I liked AP, but I felt that replaying wouldn't be as fulfilling. Might rest this game for a while before I go back to it again.

This game suprised me. Even when the gameplay is really broken I still enjoyed it a lot (I'm on the final mission, will probably wrap it up tonight).

Disliked:
-The AI is terrible, I have enemies running into my AR fire, not taking cover, or even turning their backs on me.
-Bullets going through cover.
-The melee is way to simplistic, specially when bosses have the tendency to run towards you.
-Trying to play as the stealthy guy is frustrating at the beggining due to the AI and other technical stuff (like enemies seeing me trough cover / around walls). Once you get the invisibility skill, it's just too easy.
-The hacking minigame (on pc) is very annoying.
-The checkpoint/save system is terrible.
-Overall, very glitchy.

Liked:
-Playing trough the missions is still fun despite the obvious flaws. (actually I think I had more fun thinking ways to avoid the flaws and bugs than actually playing the game by itself :P).
-Characters and voice acting are good.
-The overall story is good, even if I find contemporary espionage stories kinda meh.
-I liked the conversation system, but it takes a while to get used to.

*SPOILER (kinda)*
Was I the only one dissapointed that SIS is not a romance option?

Sounds like a typical Obsidian product to me, great idea, bad execution.

They really need to step up their game because at least with me they're starting to get a very bad reputation (I didn't preorder Fallout: New Vegas for the sole reason Obisidian's working on it, we all know what happened last time they had to make a followup to another game with "tight time constraints" as one of their employees put it in an interview).

If this sounds very negative or bitter then alas, so be it, but after KotOR2 and to a (far) lesser extent NWN2 they have a lot to make up for and Alpha Protocol alas doesn't seem to be the game to do that.

I guess all of these perverts that want to romance Sis are the same perverts that romanced Tali. They're both like 17!

Gotta say I'm glad I just rented this game and didn't buy it. This seems like a game that I would consider getting when its a bargin bin title. Then again, games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect set the bar way too high.
The AI is pretty bad (AI stood there, unable to decide where to run to when I unloaded on this guy.  Geez, even dumb guards know to get to cover), and they might as well not even have character creation if you can't alter the dumb look Thorton has. Overall, Alpha Protocol (for me anyway) was a let down considering how long they were working on this for.

I didn't romance Tali, but I would've liked to romance Sis. Would've been interesting. And no, I don't consider her to be 17, but rather in her early 20s.

This game has been awesome. I've finished Saudi Arabia, Taipei, and Moscow and having a great time still. I've focused on stealth, pistols, and martial arts. I really like my character. I have no idea why the game is getting reviews as low as it has. It's clearly better than that.

I finished it tonight and thought it was a great game despite the fact it can be a bit of a technical mess at times (getting stuck on corners, dumb AI, game messing up after reloading a messing, etc)

I hope it does well enough for Obsidian to develop a sequel. It definitely left me wanting more and that for me is enough to mark it as a great game.
