It doesn't make sense why a pureblood would have an increased chance to have an AY child, unless it's just a cheap way for them to justify the reason asari shouldn't breed with one another. In ME1, Liara presented a purely social reason why they shouldn't ('oh, asari think it's not acceptable to breed with another, but this has no basis in scientific fact. They just think it's better for the race to bring in diversity and blah blah blah'). In ME2, they tried to introduce a biological basis with this AY stuff.

Why wouldn't Liara have mentioned this in ME1? 'Oh by the way Shepard, our offspring could potentially become a mad serial killer'.

Canonically, the Ardat-Yakshi didn't exist in ME1.   They were fabricated for ME2 to  (I  think)  make the Asari appear to be less-perfect.  Now, Liara's child with Shepard could be an AY.  Heck, Liara could have been an AY herself in ME1.

She's not, luckily, or my Shepard would be dead :wizard:

Was Benezia a pureblood?  It's never clearly stated.

I still think the AY were fabricated to give more credence to the 'taboo' against asari-asari pairings, as Samara mentions.
