Why wouldn't Liara have mentioned this in ME1? 'Oh by the way Shepard, our offspring could potentially become a mad serial killer'.
Canonically, the Ardat-Yakshi didn't exist in ME1. They were fabricated for ME2 to (I think) make the Asari appear to be less-perfect. Now, Liara's child with Shepard could be an AY. Heck, Liara could have been an AY herself in ME1.

Was Benezia a pureblood? It's never clearly stated.
I still think the AY were fabricated to give more credence to the 'taboo' against asari-asari pairings, as Samara mentions.
