This.
Also, I have never been able to get my head around the logic of having a story discussion without spoilers. The story is spoliers. (Mind you, considering even the 'No Spoilers Allowed' forums are full of spoilerific information, maybe this move is a good sign for cleaning up the forum lines.)
My point still is, though, that tactics and gameplay are now being lumped in with character/story discussions (story is character, to an large extenet, after all), so this move seems illogical. But it is still not something that the fan threads themselves instigated so ease off on the hatred.

The storylines forum needed the space. They took up so much room that it was normal for the thread on the bottom to be only thirty minutes old, which meant that there was almost no room there for actual storyline discussions.
They were always meant to be here because this area moves pretty slowly and discussions stay up for a while.

The character threads are useless. Nothing you talk about matters to the story and everyone has seen the cinematics so there's nothing to discuss.

Remember:
If you spend a lot of time discussing the possible motives and inner lives of fictional characters in a character-driven game, you're creepy and obsessive and should be shunned.
If you spend a lot of time discussing how to get 2% bigger imaginary numbers from a game with fictional characters, you're engaged in a sacred practice that must be permitted to flourish in isolation.
I'm not big on either, personally, but it seems like kind of a double standard. There's no hints Bioware will use character thread information to flesh them out, and there's no hints Bioware will send you prizes if you make an Infiltrator who manages a DPS .3 higher than the next best build. You're all indulging your personal weird obsessions in here; I just think of it as the "thinking a lot about Mass Effect details" forum.

I love how everyone gets all protective over their own little corner of the forum. It's not like the fan threads had a choice. I rather they be in a sub-forum too for organization reasons. But they aren't. Talk to Chris about it. Complaining to him got the threads moved. Maybe more complaining will finally get us a sub-forum.

We can talk about the strategy of getting them their own sub-forum.
I never got the whole "well there is character in the name of the one forum so we'll just dump all fan threads in there." I'm pretty sure the "character" part of the title means your character...

I don't think it was the actual existence of the threads that got them moved - it was the fact that some of them were going off-topic and kept requiring Stanley to check in. Chris mentioned that he reports to the Director of Marketing at EA, so I guess the forum still needs to be organized for people getting introduced to the series/game. The support threads have been there for exactly 4 months, so I'm guessing the EA Director decided to check in on the forum after Mass Effect 2 on some quarterly/(thirdly?) update and the conversation ended up something like this:Privateerkev wrote...

What? What do you want to know? What the forum used to be meant for? What it is for now? What am I squeezing? Why am I here? What is the meaning of life? What is the airspeed velocity of an un-laden swallow?

I never said their actual existence is why they got moved. I heard they got moved because people were complaining about spoilers in a forum that allows spoilers. (No really, I have heard that is the reason...) Not sure how much storyline you can discuss without spoilers. What are we supposed to talk about? What is on the back of the game package?
*edit*
found the link for moving these things for spoiler reasons.

On topic, I agree with separating the strategy threads from the character threads. To be honest, I only play ME2 right now for the combat and strategies involved.

Then again, since it was already slowing much before, maybe not as many people are playing through the game anymore. Many builds have already been created and debated. With ME2's very limited character customization, compared to many other RPGs, perhaps most powerful possibilities have already been discussed. I haven't played through the game nearly as much as many here, but I can certainly name, at the very least, 3 powerful build variants for each of the 6 classes.
Edit: I've just tried posting in a few strategy discussion based threads to get them on the front page but they are already being swamped by the character-love threads. Seems we strategy discussion fans are going to have to search through the first 2-3 pages of the forum to see the lastest posts in these types of threads.

I've been thinking the exact same thing. My first ever playthrough of ME2 was as a Vanguard on Insanity on the 360. Talk about a baptism by fire! I got through it, thanks to the great Vanguard tip threads and videos here, and had a ton of fun doing so.

Obviously never read the original stickies' description of what this thread was for. If character support threads were intended to be here, they did a poor job of describing the forum's purpose. Keep in mind, if you look at the sticky on the forum now "It is also for fans to discuss their favorite characters..." and "Discuss why Mordin is your favorite NPC..." were added only yesterday. So delete those two sentences and then tell me the sticky reads like this is where the character support threads were meant to be all along.Kaylord wrote...
Forumpolice says the character love was spoiling in the general threads so they moved them here, as it was intended so from the very beginning anyways.
The moderators have only moved the problem. Like when the developers saw the complaints about the Mako and decided to remove the vehicle altogether, the moderators saw the complaints about the character support threads and rather than analyze what the issue really was, they just shifted it about in hopes that curbed the discontentment.
Character support threads mainly attract gamers interested in story. classes and builds threads mainly attract gamers interested in gameplay and strategy. The only good I see in moving the two types of threads together is that you're forcing two different types of gamers to now mingle in the same spot, thus having the chance to see a different side of how to play the game. But in my experience, those two types of gamers just would rather not.

So it's always been justified, but the moderators let it slide for a while. People who tried starting character threads on this subforum were immediately pushed down by the gameplay threads.Share your stories, artwork, music, web sites or other creative works
