I don't know about all of the character threads but it's incredibly rare that I see a "bump" post on the ones that I do visit. I've certainly not seen people bumping and saying, "Oh, my gosh, the imaginary competition we're having with a character that has nothing to do with our conversation had a more recent post!" When I post it's because I have something to say about the character or the question under consideration. I don't think most people who add to those threads believe that keeping it in some golden forum position will affect ME3 development at all. They just want to be able to find and continue the discussion they were having.

I'm still fairly new around here. (About a month.) But I heard there used to be some fear that characters wouldn't make it into ME2. Or it would be a reduced role. So thread sizes were a way to show the devs that there is indeed a desire for the characters to have a large role in the game. And even now, there partly is a "Woo Hoo, our thread has xxxx posts! We are awesome!" attitude around here.

Not to be a jerk... but most of that reasoning is connected to the Tali thread.

There needs to be a way to keep it in alphabetical order.

I give you...

This

That doesn't help the fact that an entire subforum is still filled with the threads again.

I guess the game's been out long enough that people don't really argue over the best way to win anymore, and maybe this thread's already been made, but lo and behold I come back to the forums after all these months to see that the freaking Tali thread/miranda/ i luv dis char threads have all made their way into the strategy forum. I guess all us tipsters were gone for too long and let our sacred guide writing and video making space get trounced on.

I think I'll make a video tonight or something.

I hear you... but I think that character support threads are much better locateed in the character section of the forums. . I have advocated this move from the start.

These threads caused me to  abandon the old campaign/quests/story forum area before. Now I will chek them out again and just ignore this section of the forum.

The description below the link to the forum has always been this, however:

Share your stories, artwork, music, web sites or other creative works
inspired by Mass Effect 1 & 2. Discuss your favorite characters from
the Mass Effect games. Game registration is required to post in this
forum, but all visitors may read.

No it wasn't. "Discuss your favorite characters from the Mass Effect games" was also added yesterday. So from that original description, character support threads were still not intended to go in this forum, but fan's creative works were.

Your reasoning for supporting the move is flawed Throw_this_away.

Pacifien is correct. This section is not where those threads belong. So you may not have wanted them in your section either, and I get that. But don't misuderstand why people who used this subforum are unhappy with the move. They don't belong here either. You can advocate whatever you want, it doesn't make you're logic correct.

But where are people posting their creative works? In the character fan threads. There's, what, one fanfiction thread on the other forum and it's hardly used. Before the move, would this board have been welcoming to people posting fan art and fics despite the description stating that they should be here? Or would you have been angry that people would dare to clutter your strategy board with something fluffier?

Seen it in a lot of threads. Just seems to be especially prevalant in the Tali thread. There used to be fear that she would get sidelined. Now there is fear among some that she will get re-sidelined. So some think a super-duper large thread will help somehow.

Well the Tali fans thread used to be called "All Tali fans, check this out!  IT IS UP TO YOU TO SAVE TALI FOR ME3!" or some garbage like that.  So anyone who says the threads were not generated to make sure characters were not killed/reduced to Liara/Wrex/Kaiden/Ash minor roles in ME3, can go suck an egg.

You should see the reaction some people have if they notice their support thread has fallen to the second page.

Logic... sure.  Whatever.  Logic would be to give the spam threads their own section.  I admit to not memorizing the old forum section descriptions... but based on the old title and content descriptions, my opinion was that this was the best fit for the character fan threads.  But that means nothing now because the descriptions have changed... and this section is now the best fit based on that alone.  Christ put it best in a sticky in the old forum section:  "We do want our fans to have threads to support their faorite characters (Miranda, Thane, Ashley, Garrus, etc) BUT this is not the correct forum to discuss them anymore."

Either way... I pity the poor people that frequent this forum section... the fan threads really are a forum killer.

As I have said before... I will now ignore this section of the forum, and begin reading the old area once again (as I had moved out due to the fan threads).

That's exactly right, these fan obsession threads are basically self-contained forums themselves - they need their own section. It doesn't fix anything to just shove this problem onto a different sub-forum.

Just quarantine these things in their own sub-forum so the complaints stop - you know, when the actual source of the complaints is fixed, not shuffled somewhere else to bother a whole new set of people.

The character threads are useless. Nothing you talk about matters to the story and everyone has seen the cinematics so there's nothing to discuss.

*facepalm* you cleary have never been in one, if you did you would know that we talk about the character, we debate about the character, talk about our dislikes and likes, what we thought of the romance, what he wished should have happened, share fan fictions nad get togetehr with fans. Thats how the Miri and Garrus threads are like, before you run your mouth, know what your talking about.

You know those discussions don't mean anything unless you're actually on the development team, right?  Its like debating whether balrogs have wings, except instead of something no one cares about from a novel, you're doing it about video game characters.

Wait what, you mean tht it means nothing that fans of characters talk about the character, there pros, what they hated. You cleary do not know what your talking about or you think there is nothing intresting of the characters.

I also agree that they should have their own space. The fact is they don't belong here. I couldn't care less if you never visit this section again. The point is I do, and so do a lot of other people that don't want this crap here. So stay or go, but don't try to justify moving them here as a smart idea. It's stupid, it's pissing people off that came here to discuss gameplay and strategy, and it did/will effectively kill activity in topics that were truly related to the original description of this subforum.

I've seen it happen, and apparently it's just awful that it would sit there in the second page for any period of time because for every second it wallows unseen on the first page, the developers will subtract that time from her role in ME3.

That is a joke.

The sad thing is that now the mass effect 2 forum is moving at a snails pace.  I would usually post in there while I was waiting in response to character threads.

Is it truly moving slower or are you just noticing the other topics always moved slow in comparison the character threads?

Anyway, just need to think of topics to talk about that aren't directly related to a specific character. For instance, how does the asari melding process actually work? :P

Yeah, the flood of character love threads is not really making it easy to make posts/read posts on strategy. Personally, I'm all for the character support/discussion getting a sub-forum. It would make the forums much more organized and rage inducing, for sure.

Prior to a movement of character threads (I love Tali, I love Grunt, I love Harkin, etc) this forum was pretty much all strategy discussion, with a few (I didn't see that many) character art posts. Now, all strategy threads are getting crushed by the amount of posts in those character threads.

Although I do not support having the support threads here, it "evened out" the amount of activity across the three main Mass Effect forums.

Now the oldest post on the first page of each forum has a "last reply" of at least "1 hour ago" during primetime.

It's split up the traffic on the boards so now I can't get as much exposure for my absurd threads of much ridiculousness. It's disheartening.

Look at it this way. Because the character threads are here, it means posters don't have to picture spam all the time to keep their threads at the top 24 hours a day. It also allows new topics to not get buried by TALI, ASH, KAIDAN, GARRUS, MIRANDA, LIARA, SAMARA, JACK, JACOB, KASUMI, etc. Also, this part of the forum was becoming dead, so this allows some life, while also allowing character posters to read more into the strategies of the game.
