I could be wrong but I think you guys forgot to mention the "Improved Hex" combo, which I don't blame you for since it's not on the wiki for whatever reason. Basically, any Hex cast on an enemy under the effects of Curse of Mortality will last twice as long. (This is useful with Misdirection Hex, or even Disorient)

Silly me, this is actually a part of the Combat Tweaks mod on DANexus. Didn't realize it was the mod since a codex entry showed up.

Definitely a recommended mod though as it vastly improves the game. Apparently it adds several spell combos in addition to Improved Hex.

I'd just like to say that I've been listening through the older episodes of the DA podcast and Tarante11a reference to Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo made my day.

Must stop listening to the show. Heard Vae mention Neo-Steam, gave it a pop and then had to play Silverfall as well. My weekend disappeared in a puff of beating nature lovers into a pulp.

Guessing that with the confirmation of DA2, that show has more stuff to talk about now:)

RE: Episode 9. Tarante11a is the greatest. She should smack you guys over the Internet for making fun of her.

You guys should have plenty to discuss in the next episode. :-)

Hello m'dears

There are some sound problems with this episode I'm afraid, sorry about that.  I hope they don't put you off too much and they'll be all sorted out for the next  podcast.

Rather frustratingly, we missed the DA2 announcement, but we'll chat about it in the next show.  Hopefully by then we'll have further info about it, so there will be more to discuss.  I'm really excited about the game though.  I think despite any differences there may be between Origins and DA2, it's worth remembering how good BioWare is at this stuff, they haven't let me down yet anyway.    I reckon we should keep our powder dry and see what happens - I suspect we won't be disappointed.

best wishes

Tara

Just listening to newest podcast and Id like to share this.

Not sure you saw it, and it wont probably feed your curiosity enough, but there is at least little something about VA for DA :)

(though seeing them all in one small room like that could be very interesting :P )

Good podcast. It would have been a great podcast if you guys could make an effort to stay on topic. Come on, 20 minutes before you guys start talking about Dragon Age at all? Ridiculous.

@Indoctrination - Hi there m'dear - thanks for the feedback and glad you like the podcast on the whole. We have a bit of general natter at the beginning because we feel it's a friendly way to start the show. It may have seemed to take up a larger part of the programme than usual because Episode 10 was quite a short one. Normally we'd have an interview or something which would balance it better.

However, we've had good feedback about the bantery tone of the podcast, and although we've tightened it up quite a bit I think, we're probably going to keep the bit of introductory chat. Sorry if you aren't keen on that.

I hope that doesn't put you off completely (perhaps you could 'fast-forward' over that bit, or stick your fingers in your ears until the segment is over) and I hope you'll continue to the enjoy the podcast in general.

And thanks so much to everyone else who's posted with their support and kind compliments - cheers m'dears!

*hugs*

Tara

Oh noes, mike caught on to us! Might as well just admit it, *cough* *sneeze* *cough* youbelongonpodcastsandradioshows *cought*. 'Scuse me.

Seriously. I think it's the voice... though according to several American TV shows, anyone with an English accent is by default 20 IQ points higher (sounding).

As an English-smelling person myself, I must thank you for thinking I sound intelligent and magical!

And a huge thanks to the Podcasters for Episode 10! Another couple of hours well spent. By me, I mean. Maker only knows how long it takes you all to put an episode together.

Looking forward to Episode 11. Cheers and thanks again!

Great episode.

Shale's a fun character to use because she's rather versatile. I've yet to really try her on her ranged stance yet (Might do it when I make an archer one of these days) but I've used her as a stilted tank (My first time through the game and I built her terribly) and as a lean-mean-offensive machine. As a tank you want to pump Dexterity (rather than Constitution like I did my first time through, since Shale will start with lots of that anyway) and a little bit of Willpower. As far as talents go you're going to want Taunt/Disengage ASAP while working your way up the tanking tree. Your secondary tree should be the Stone Aura one, which buffs the entire party quite significantly and makes Shale more durable at higher levels. (Allowing you to taunt and then activate that while your party mops everything up)

Offensive Shale should pump Strength and a little bit of Willpower so she can keep using her offensive abilities. Quake is a dangerous one I find and you have to be careful with it since it can outright kill most of your own party. Slam and Killing Blow are both great against single targets. Precise Striking should always be on, and Deathblow is going to be quite desirable due to the low willpower. Generally, I find a pure offensive Shale to be "okay", but I think you're better off using her as a tank or as a ranged buffer. ( One thing to note is that if you're going to use Shale in ranged stance, set her tactics behaviour to "Defensive" so she sticks close to you)

Of course by the end of the game you should be able to get every talent Shale has available to her, but the important thing is where you allocate your stat attributes. Generally you can't go wrong with Strength/Dexterity with a little bit of Willpower every few levels. Magic and Cunning are both deadweight stats on her unfortunately.

As for Dog, I find the best way to play Dog is by pumping Strength/Dexterity like crazy. Strength for damage and Dex for making him more durable. Every other stat is pretty unimportant for Dog, although if you really want to make Dog a tank (I'd advise against it since Dog has no way to draw aggro other than doing tons of damage) you could put less points in Strength and put them in Constitution instead. The main key to using Dog effectively is tactics. I won't go too much into specifics here since it's fun to kind of come up with this stuff on your own but I'll give a few examples of some good tactics.

-Set Dog to Aggressive, although he may start on this. (I know in Awakening party members started with their own proper stance, but in Origins they didn't seem to)

-Set him to use Growl on the nearest visible Rogue as your first slot, then have the next slot underneath set him to use it on the target of a character of your choosing. The reason for this is because Growl reduces Defense, and Rogue's are most likely to have a high defense.

-Set him to use Charge on the nearest visible Mage, and then follow up with an Overwhelm. Mages are deadly in dragon age, and this can be a pretty effective way to disable and even kill most of them.

-Set him to use Shred on enemies with heavy armour. Shred is an automatic critical hit and the opponent suffers bleeding damage afterwards, which I'm pretty sure isn't mitigated by Armor.

I am playing with the Combat Tactics mod I mentioned earlier, so the bleeding thing on Shred may be from the mod I'm not entirely sure. I'm pretty sure the ability does the same thing in the base game. (although it may be weaker) Shale should be identical though as far as I'm aware the mod didn't touch her.

Just got around to downloading and listening to the podcast. HA! I can't believe you actually read out my line of smiley faces. Don't worry I won't do it to you again...;)

I enjoyed the spoiler free Leliana's Song review. I'm a little dissapointed that they're mostly reusing areas, which seems a bit slack. I thought that the DLC was set in Orlais (which now I think about it was probably kind of unlikely) so bit of a let down there.

Hope Vae isn't feeling to crap after his surgery. Keep up the good work.
