I honestly believe that Final Fantasy XIII will not win the GOTY award from a single publication.

Ouch. Reason?

Well aside from it sucking royally the game has not garnered significant critical acclaim from any major online publication, at least not that I'm aware.  Well, unless you include Famitsu which gives out a perfect score every month to some random tamagotchi style, niche Japanese title.

I hope Mario doesn't get the pity win. In all honesty it was good, but it was just about the same thing as the first one, and that wasn't SUPER great. I want either FFXIII or ME2, either would make me happy.

Galaxy 2 took all the aspects of the great Mario games and put it into one amazingf game. Galaxy 2 did what a game is ment to do, be fun.

Damn straight.  Mario Galaxy 2 doesn't try to do anything but entertain you and it succeeds tremendously.

It got 9.25 from game informerand 8.9 from IGN. Plus, have you played it? I though it was a fantastic narrative adventure.

Yes, I own it for the Xbox360 and it is the last time I am ever buying a Final Fantasy game without getting a second hand opinion first.
It has recieved positive reviews but 8.9 and 9.25 is hardly GOTY worthy material.  Mass Effect 2 got a 9.6 afterall.

Read Dead Redemption got a 9.7 and Mario Galaxy 2 got a perfect 10.

Mario Galaxy 2 got a 10, so did GTA 4 (on IGN), when was the last time anyone played GTA 4. Personally I think it's (FFXIII)  a great game in terms of, well in terms of just about everything. If games like Red Dead Redemtion get 9.7 when Mario getsa 10 then it's obvious that those reviews are objective and that scores over 8.5 dictate great games, which FFXIII is.

That's the problem. When Halo Reach comes in September everyone will be begging for it to win, no matter how good/bad it is.

No, "most people" aren't.  You might be a hardcore gamer that enjoys it, but the majority of Wii and DS owners are casual gamers, period, so it isn't BS, it's fact.

PFFFF I love how you pulled out that "fact" as if you been to the homes of every single user that owns a Wii or DS and had in-depth interviews with each of them. <_<

Right. But let's hear your definition of a "hardcore" (lol) gamer first though. pff

The majority of the scrubs throwing that cliché around barely had any exposure to video games before this decade. Now That is a Fact. =]

P.S. Is this thread still for discussing GoTY nominations?

I've been a "hardcore" gamer since 92 -93, so I've seen my share of the industry, and then you throw out the word scrub which is so lame it's not even funny, next you'll be saying nub and teh roksorz, why not leave your leet clan speak for the WoW forums or the Bad Company 2 in game chat... scrub... lmao  Oh, and put more pfff's in there, that's golden.

The highest selling games on the Wii, in fact the majoraty of titles bought are casual games which would dictate just how much of their core audience is casual.

New super mario, mario kart, Wii fit, Just Dance, Mario Galaxy, Wii play etc are the highest selling games on the Wii by a huuuge margin.  I wasn't just assuming, I actually look at vgcharts and follow the numbers for worldwide sales figures. Also, my definition of hardcore gamer is a person that likes more in depth titles/highly competative games and spends quite a number of hours gaming.  FPS's, stratagy games, RPG's are all in my definition of hardcore audience titles.  Whereas platformers, adventure and party games are casual audience titles. But if you want to actually say that Mario Kart and Just Dance are "hardcore" games then more power to you I guess...

The Metroid Primes, Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars, Resident Evil 4, all of them have pathetic numbers compared to the top selling Wii titles. In fact all of those titles combined don't even make a 1/3rd of the sales for Wii fit alone. Nintendo knows it's audience and creates titles based on that demographic, which is why theres soooo many mario games and mini game compilations, it's a casual system that's cheap, low horsepower and easily accesible to new gamers.  I'm not sure where you got this idea that the Wii is dominated by veterans of the gaming industry that have played since pong.  It's not competative, it's not complex and it certainly isn't high detail which to me spells out quite clearly, c..a..s..u..a..l.

P.S. - Starcraft 2 is the biggest rehash ever, they should have had Starcraft 1.5 as the title because if that is the end result of ten years of developing, then damn, Blizzard.. just... damn... I can't wait for Diablo 2.5 <_<

The only award FF13 might win is best visuals (as I said previously), I have heard to many bad things from people about the game (one of my friends is a huge FF fan and even he dislikes the game)

Not GOTY material

Heck in terms of story Alan Wake kicks FF13 out the door, but I doubt Alan Wake will win either

Sadly though it will be CoD or Halo: Reach, unless Valve decides to announce another Orange Box type title (which I doubt, but Portals 2 does stand a great chance currently) or the next Elder Scrolls is released this year

I don't play WoW or any of the scruby FPS'es and never really played any MMOs. Nice fluster though, try injecting a little flair into the personal attacks that'll open your next response. "Scrub" is no more "lame" than "hardcore" - it's more than enough to denote my disgust without nerd-raging all over the place - but do keep up the hypocrisy to justify your hyperboles.

I see you've still weaseled out of actually defining just what the HECK a "hardcore gamer" IS in the first place.

whatever. That's like saying, "I'm a Hardcore music-lover; I only listen to Death Metal and Gangsta Rap. Pop and Rock are for casual joggers and crap." or "I only watch R-rated flicks, Star Wars and Shrek and sh*t is for casual movie-goers."

but wait.. I see you're going by the number of SALES. So it must be the other way around, right? wow. <_<

Yeah. It's as if these knuckle-draggers see having FUN as something effeminate, and they're like, "Oh NO, I'm not playing GAMES, dood. I'm shooting people up and stealing their carz. Lookit all that BLOOD man! You don't like blood?? BAHAHAHAHA Casual F**!"

heh ..Grim.

They may be Hardcore morons but hardcore Gamers they are not.

and with that you just lost any credibility you might have ever had in a discussion about "hardcore" gaming. The ironies we fall into. That little pooh-pooh'ing sounds like you probably failed in SC2 just as hard as you did with Brood War, so all you see in both of those games is "Something I Fail At" == "Rehash." pff

Feel free to start another thread to continue this (with 10 walls-of-test basically reiterating the same thing) instead of hijacking an unrelated topic as your rantbox. :)

I don't know honestly. Personally, I don't think anything I've played so far this year should be called Game of the Year. They've been fun, sure. Ground breaking? Hardly. There really hasn't been a game so far that was a must have. Everything was something I could have waited to get. I'm going to see how the rest of this year pans out and then I might have a better answer.

I predict either RDR or SMG2 will win most catagories, having played RDR I must admit it is an outstanding game. My GOTY will still be ME2, though...

Rogue Warrior will get GOTY for sure.

Other than the immersive combat, the story is very well written and the Voice acting is superb. Cursing is well used and so well done you almost never notice it.

I gave you my definition which means the Wii is a casual system by my definition, To reiterate since you obviously can't read through your haze of geekout, games with depth and competative games = hardcore to me, and actually most others, obviously not by yours as Wii Play and Mario Tennis are veteran titles...

And at least I backed up my opinion with sales numbers and my definition of what a hardcore title is compared to a casual title, what did you have?  A bunch of insults and self rightious rhetoric, good job :wizard:

I just can't believe how enraged you are, I mean you really are a super gamer as you can't have a dissenting opinion thrown your way without having a moderate tantrum, bravo, I'm sure you spilled your energy drink when you wrote that last post..

Also, talk about hijacking a thread, you act as if you've been any better? lmao, and you accuse me of hypocrisy? oh my god your funny.

And how did I fail by stating the truth about SC2? It's a total rehash, they added a few new units, took some away and updated the graphics... it's the second coming of jesus!!!!  :sick:The fact that you can't see just how much of a money grab that game is is a testament to how delusional you are as a gamer.  And you came through on more pfff's, they're so entertaining, I love your debate style, rage with a side of disfluency.;)

Agree, and I love ME2. I don't see why FFXIII isn't "GOTY material". People are saying Mario galaxy 2 is the best thing since sliced bread and it's almost a carbon copy of the first one. (I own it and I think it's good but not as good as ME2 or FFXIII). FF13 is a great game. That's why it got great scores from metacritic, IGN, and game informer (the big three). It is just as worthy for the award as any of the games being discussed here. It beats them all in graphics, it has a fantastic story and great characters, and the combat is awesome and complex fun. The only complaints are the linearity and lack of dated, over used elements that were in the previous games. Now yes, it was linear for the first half, but I'll be damned if it wasn't fun. And when it opened up it got even better. And as for the stuff they took out of the series, I didn't miss anything. So, I just don't see why this game doesn't deserve the award when Mario Galaxy 1.2 and Grand Theft Auto in Texas are practically nobrainers.

I thought FFXIII was awful.

Mass Effect 2 should win game of the year for 2010... and 2009. In fact, ME2 should win GOTY for 2011, too. Hell, ME2 should win GOTY for 1998, I don't even care. It should also win Palm D'Ore and Best Picture... Grammy... Best in Show... Car of the Year... Best Supporting Female Performance...

After what EA revealed today Crysis 2 might take the cake on GotY

FF13 is basically an interactive movie (again Alan Wake is as well) sorry, but I don't see it as GotY material (nor is Alan Wake)

If only SWTOR came out this year

Heck the way it looks RB3 might even be able to get a vote in for GotY (though I doubt it would win it is actually a great improvement over RB2)

I guess this is expected on the bioware forums (the FF hate that is. But don't get the wrong idea, these are my favorite and only forums, I love them:wub:.) But everyone can have their own opinion, so I respect yours. I personally hope that it is at least nominated, and would love for either it or ME2 to win.

I dig on Bioware games, no doubt, but I also think RDR is deserving of a GOTY nod. SMG2 also is deserving.
